  2. Jackson has a good deal more power than his current output has shown. I think he has a pretty good shot of being a 20-25 HR hitter in his prime. He profiles more as a middle of the order type. My guess is the Cubs are batting him at #2 to work on contact and pitch recognition, but I could be wrong. Castro could be a leadoff type, but I'm not a fan of the idea since he's fairly aggressive at the plate, won't draw many walks, and has enough power to make me think he could be a #2 hitter more than anything else. However, this could also be the work of their respective managers who are merely filling out lineup cards the way they think appropriate. It's hard to know without inside information.

  4. So, which player should we all get irrationally excited for this go-round, only to have the Cubs crush our hopes and pass on him?
  5. Setting aside Nolasco's performance for a moment, I'm still pissed off at the fact that Nolasco, Mitre, and Pinto could have netted something better than Juan [expletive] Pierre at the time they were traded. None of those three were considered future aces, but all of them had value on the trade market beyond the return they got.

  9. Not much to report so far. Nagel had a good three inning outing, giving up only one hit and striking out four. Searle is now in to pitch for Peoria.

  12. Something's been kind of nagging at me lately. Brett Jackson has been hitting for a high average and his .120 IsoD has been an enormously good sign for his prospect status. His strikeouts are also down a smidge compared to last season. However, his power has been fairly lacking through almost 100 ABs. The FSL is notorious for putting a damper on power numbers, but he's had no home runs and only 7 XBHs. That makes me wonder. I know the power is there, but when will it show up?
  13. My hope is, when Soriano eventually cools off, Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez get hot. However, for now, I will happily enjoy watching Good Soriano while he's around.
  14. Seriously, he's one sexy beast.
  15. It's not quite a consensus, but Pomeranz can make a strong case for it right now, especially since it seems he'd be willing to sign for slot. It doesn't seem like too big a reach unlike other Pirate first round picks. He's definitely a top 5 prospect though it seems like Jameson Taillon is firmly entrenches as the #2 prospect everywhere you look. Pretty much, although Taillon's reportedly looking for record-breaking money and a major league contract. Pomeranz seems to make more sense for the Pirates in terms of signability, although, given that they took Alvarez recently and gave him a dump truck full of money, who knows?
  16. Unnecessarily sliding into 1B should do the trick!
  17. It's not quite a consensus, but Pomeranz can make a strong case for it right now, especially since it seems he'd be willing to sign for slot.
  18. Dusty used to pull this lazy type of lineup making too. Remember when Sosa was out, and Dusty replaced him with Trinnidad Hubbard, still batting 3rd? Ahhhhh, happy memories.
  19. Doesn't the MWC actually have a good TV deal? I'm pretty sure they have their own channel and are under serious consideration for a BCS automatic bid.

  21. I have yet to see him sober in anything he's ever done.
  22. I have to hand it to the Cubs, they have a knack for trading away pitching prospects who end up with major injury issues.
  23. Still pretty awesome. Plus he faced the minimum, thanks to picking off the only guy he walked.
