  1. The Monday thing was more just because we are going to trade for Reddick. At some point Cogs is gone or we are going to be sending even more actual contributors down and waiting until September to bring them back up. Soler and Cahill are both going to be back, which means even tougher roster choices than this one. I figured, I don't think Reddick is all that likely, maybe I'm wrong. Soler and Cahill will both force tough decisions, although with Contreras in a funk he's a demotion candidate, and I doubt we go back to 13 pitchers so while Cahill will force a quality player off the roster it likely won't be a position player. Cahill and his negative value should never ever force a quality player off a roster. He'll go the full 30 on the rehab assignment then get DFA.
  2. It was a forearm strain i believe.
  3. Lucius Fox belongs nowhere near the names of Torres or Robles yet. Oh, most definitely, but he is the highest ceiling guy in their system and the one IIRC they were most adverse to moving. Torres going basically locks him++ as the price for Miller, making that the situatuon is advantageous for the Cubs. Absolutely. The Cubs package basically completely priced the Giants out of the high end reliever market because I don't think teams are looking for 10 C-level prospects. The Cubs have basically made it a premium hitting prospect + for anyone looking to add a reliever this year and the GIants simply don't have it in their system. So now they'll go get Hochevar instead.
  4. I have no doubts about this. I'm sure neither the Nats or Giants are into trading a Robles or Fox for a reliever, but the Cubs were set up to be able to sell Torres without skipping a beat both at the ML and MiL levels. Lucius Fox belongs nowhere near the names of Torres or Robles yet.
  5. this is the best defense of a (perceived) overpay i've seen, even though it probably assigns too much credit I don't know that Theo intended to throw off other teams, but I think he definitely saw value in being the first to jump into the market, given so many top-tier relievers are out there. Discussed it on Twitter the day it happened. It's absolutely a byproduct of the deal and very easy to anticipate coming. I have an econ degree from shitty UT San Antonio could predict the market would respond this way. I am assuming Theo and their Ivy League econ degrees and analysts knew that would happen. Washington could still hang in a trade like the Chapman one, but the Giants have horsefeathers in their system.
  6. Also, Wade Davis isn't better than Chapman. Geez I dont know they are pretty close over the last 3 years although Davis' numbers have declined slightly each year in that time frame. His xFIP is a little jarring this year compared to Chapman. They are close enough that the extra year of control is why Davis should have more value than Chapman That's negated once he's handcuffed to shitbag Ian Kennedy. Davis is also two years older. I like Wade but things like the forearm injury have hurt his long term outlook. While his lack of whiffs and uptick in walks makes him not even in the conversation with Chapman.
  7. For our team I would just rather have the rental. Ian Kennedy getting paid 16 million still in 2020 when he's not very good in 2016 doesn't seem fun. Holy hell I didn't look up his deal before posting but I never assumed he would be under contract for 4 more seasons after this one. Ok that changes my mind a bit. Also, Wade Davis isn't better than Chapman.
  8. Smyly has an elite k%-bb%. Homers have hurt him this season but I would take him in a heartbeat.
  9. That was way more fun than the other games against these idiots.
  10. Rushing a pitcher through the minors worked for Chris Sale so now the White Sox do it with all their pitchers. Probably has hurt Carlos Rodon more than helped. TBH if they let Sale pitch in the minors some more he might've gotten used to wearing weird ass uniforms and then not thrown a hissy fit
  11. Oh thank god Heyward is back to being good ole 4-3
  12. i think we banned another weirdo homophobe and that seemed to help last year (actually i have no idea when exactly sontensei or whatever was banned but i think it was august?) It almost exactly coincided with the team going on a roll. And wasn't he was a racist rather than a homophobe? I'm fairly certain it was a double whammy n-word maggots.
  13. And if he's not a complete scumbag he's at least dumber than dirt and his handlers aren''t any smarter.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet] Ok he's a scumbag and now I feel like the douche for saying I would unapologetically cheer for him.
  15. I think the main reason for that being portrayed as a redemption story is that he has cleaned himself up and got sober, did serious time, and the 74 year old himself had gone to visit him in jail and forgave him IIRC. So people think it's cool that he's managed to clean up and salvage a little bit of a career. I hadn't heard the thing about beating the crap out of the kid with the golf club, though. I would probably feel differently if Chapman had gone to jail for choking and threatening a woman and then made some discernible progress toward being a better human. But we have no evidence of that and he didn't really get punished (a fine, which is basically what he got, when you make as much as Chapman does and are about to sign a huge contract isn't a real punishment). His statement doesn't indicate real remorse or even acknowledgement of what he did. I understand why he doesn't want to admit what he did, but without taking full responsibility and making any sort of positive action (donate a few million to charities that assist domestic abuse victims), then I'll continue to feel like he's a piece of [expletive]. IF he didn't do anything why would he passively admit it? His girlfriend has said it didn't happen and she stayed with him. I know that means nothing because I've had friends in terribly abusive relationships for years and none of us knew, but it's what we have to go on.
  16. Matt Bush is a pretty bad dude and even went to prison...and by bad guy I mean a really bad guy. He beat the [expletive] out of a high schooler with a golf club, ran over the head of a 74 year old while drunk, is a suspect in multiple hit and runs and has run up a tidy 3 DUIs in his lifetime. It's weird that he's portrayed in the media as some feel good story. He shouldn't be allowed to play Major League Baseball but he throws hard...and is white? This is how our society works. He beat the horsefeathers out of the high school kid while yelling "I'm Matt horsefeathering Bush!" and it's on video. The point isn't to excuse Chapman it's to say that the only people who truly know what happened are saying nothing physically harmful happened. I think it's safe to assume no stable human being would just fire off some garage shots in anger. We KNOW what a scumbag like Matt Bush did and yet he's celebrated. Chapman is probably a douche but none of us know for sure, people are free to make their judgements. I am going to unapologetically cheer my ass off for him but won't try to change anyone else's mind in the process. I also don't want anyone trying to change my mind. I do think there is a racial component to all of this when it comes to the stories being framed by the media, but I could just be suffering from reading the Chicago media constantly bash latin players over the years.
  17. "Basically I've just been doing arts and crafts."
  18. Oh, is that how it works? Murders and child molesters get out and then they have no troubles after that? No trouble getting jobs or anything? They don't have to register with authorities, or attend therapy, or notify neighbors about their past? They just get out and move along as normal? Matt Bush is a pretty bad dude and even went to prison...and by bad guy I mean a really bad guy.
