  2. Allright, The poll results are in, and it has been narrowed down to two options. 1) Resign Nomar for 5 Million base, 3 million incentives. 2) Sign Rafael Furcal. So at this point lets drop all other talk (or start another thread on it) and focus on deciding between one of these two options.
  3. The poll is CLOSED. Since neither of the qualifications i set out were met, I'll just take the two highest vote getters as the "finalist" so to speak. So The "sign nomar for 5 + 3 incentives" and "Sign Furcal" will move on.
  4. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAH Sammy.
  5. 1B: Lee 2B: Walker SS: Cedeno 3B: Aram LF: Murton CF: Hairston/Pie/Patterson(batting 8th) RF: Burnitz/Greenberg C: Barrett I cant say for sure how he'd line them up. But he wouldnt be affraid to play the good players over the old ones
  6. This thread will run through tomorrow at 4 PM Central Time.
  7. I think he would accept something that offers a low minimum $2-4m, if the incentives were realistic, based on playing time, and could bring the deal up to $10-11m. I think a 600 PA Nomar would be a great Nomar, and justify a $11m paycheck (what he could have gotten this year with incentives. You can't give an incentive for batting .300, or any other stats based achievement. Okay, what about something along these lines:] 2 Million base + .5 million for 100 PA 1 Million for 200 PA 2 Million for 300 PA 4 Million for 400 PA 6 Million for 500 PA 8 Million for 600 PA 9 Million for 650+ PA If he maxed out and had 650 PA then he would have his 11 million dollar contract that he could have had last year(this year, i guess). I would be content with something like that, personally. I am under the firm belief that if he gets 600 PA he will be worth every penny. That being said, if we can get him for the five million +3 of incentives, I'd do that so fast it'd make heads spin.
  8. Here's something I would like to toss out there. If reports are true that Nomar wants to stay (I think that's pretty much an accepted fact now), then do you think he would accept an almost entirely incentive based contract? Lets say something like: 3 million base .5 Million for every 100 plate appearances .5 Million All Star incentive .5 Million for batting .300 ------------------------------- 7 Million Total (assuming 600 plate appearances & achievement of allstar & .300) And if he flops, then he gets his three million for sitting on the bench. Or would he want something more along the lines of: 5 Million base .25 Million for every 100 PA .5 million All Star .5 Million batting .300 (or whatever incentive you want) .5 Million other performance based incentive ------------------------------ 8 million (600 PA & achievement of all incentives)
  9. WHAT HAPPENED TO ZAMBRANO?!!!!!?!!!!! He is not signed yet. Yes, he's under our control, however, an ammount has not been set as to how much he will be paid, at least i beleive that is the case, so I am waiting till we set a salary for him to put him on there.
  10. Gold. I noticed in a post game interview that he didnt have it in.
  11. Haha, last year he said the browns DBs were going to need Peptol Bismol, because he was going to make them sick to their stomach. He got pwned, and caught like 1 or 2 passes. Then I think a browns player sent him some Midol. I remember that. I thought it was hilarious. On both sides.
  12. Hahahahahahahaha. We should sign him.
  13. Johnson, easy. He talks the trash. He backs it up. And he seems like a real nice guy from some of the off-the-field interviews I've seen with him.
  14. He didn't tell you what to do; he ASKED you. He did say please (or, rather, he said plese). :( Spellin iz hard.
  15. Again, unless you have read the thread, please do not vote. Thank you!
  16. Allright, I think I'm gonna go ahead and throw up a poll just to narrow things down. The options are going to be the following: - Resign nomar for 5 mil plus incentives up to 3 mil - Resign Nomar for another amount of cash - Attempt to sign Rafael Furcal - Hand the job to Cedeno - Do something else. All of the options that get 10 or more votes will be brought back to the table for discussion. All those that do not, will be dropped. Also, if one vote gets 20 vote and no other option gets more than 10, then that option will win and we will move on to our next topic. ALso, I would like to say that I'm planning to talk about bench players at a later time. But I have no problem you mentioning it now in the "I want nomar back only if cedeno gets one start a week as a backup" type of manor. If you have any other questions about how this thread will progress please first go back and read the first few posts, if that doesnt answer your question, ask me :) thankyou!
  17. I'd just like to ask everyone to stay on subject. No worries, Left field is coming up. Probably next. As far as my opinion on shortstop, I'm pretty much in line with Vance and Tim. If I can get him back for $5 Mil and approx 3 or so million in incentives, I'd be very happy. If Nomar can stay healthy, he's probably the best SS in the National League. And I'll take the best SS in the national league any day. Especially for five mil plus incentives. And if it so happens that his leg explodes again then we didnt spend too much on him. EDIT: also, please, keep hendry's name out of here. It doesnt matter what he thinks. This thread is totally independent of him. If you want to talk about what He should do or what he'll probably do, take it somewhere else. Thanks!
  18. Not at all, I am speaking of Shortstop as a whole.
  19. Well, the votes are in. Walkers option wins 21-2. Mods can lock that thread if they feel the need. Lets move on to the other middle infield slot: Shortstop. What are our opions here? first off what are our options? -Resign Nomar -Hand the job down to Cedeno -Sign someone -Trade for someone
  20. Yup. Hendry just has to be willing to put up with a whiny unhappy camper if he picks up the option and dishes Walker to a team he might not prefer. But hey, this is business and I want to make the playoffs next year. Sorry, Walker. Why would he have to deal with him? If he traded him he'd be the other teams problem if he was infact unhappy. That being said, I would just bring him back and keep him. $2.5 million for a guy who puts up numbers like .305/.355 (avg/obp) is dirt cheap no matter how you look at it. Save money at second and put it elsewhere.
  21. That is a Cubs option, btw, so Walker doesn't have any choice about coming back if the Cubs want him. And that's the question. It's not a question for me, though, as I exercise the option the first day I can and bring back Todd for 2006. I try to sign him to a very similar contact hes signed to right now (with a 500K raise or so), I'd like to keep an option on him for 2007. Some would argue for EPatt in 2007, but as much as I like him, I cant see him going from low A to AA to the majors. If Todd wants to be able to test the market after 2006 so be it, Ill be very happy retaining his services in 2006 for 2.5M by picking up the option. Just my preference to keep him around past 2006. Well in that case, then pick up his option, then try to extend his contract after the fact. Because if you let the date for picking up contracts pass, you run the risk of losing him if he does not want to return.
  22. Right now the Vote is 10-1 in favor of picking up the option.
  23. Please do not vote unless you have read The 2006 Thread and understand what is going on. Thank you!
  24. I figured this would be a pretty quick decision. Which is why I put it up first before some of they heavy issues (dusty, patterson). So I'll just start the process now. I'll go set up the poll over in the polls forum. First to 20 with a 5 vote lead wins.
