  1. If it is someone like pineyro, that'd be fantastic.
  2. Reality Check .213/.317/.422 in 268 PA's in AAA - Mike Olt .304/.360/.513 in 533 PA's in AAA - Josh Vitters .152/.250/.282 in 40 PA's in MLB - Mike Olt .121/.193/.202 in 109 PA's in MLB - Josh Vitters Note both Josh Vitters and Mike Olt were born on August 27th, Vitters one year later... Not saying one is better than the other, but let's not subject ourselves to the shiny new toy syndrome.
  3. While its nice to have the Almora's and Bryant's, I like what the organization has done targeting guys like Leal and Pineyro, young guys with good stuff. Even Grimm, Wood and Arrietta - talented SPs when their value is down.
  4. How common are results-based PTBNL's? Do we have any other confirmed examples of deals like this occurring?
  5. I dunno, I think Pierce and Edwards are a toss up provided Vizcaino doesn't get a new right arm soon.
  6. Ptbnl could be dependent on a prospects health, hence the issue Friday
  7. Chisenhall is gross. I dont care for Olt but I'd take him straight up for Garza before taking Chisenhall straight up for him.
  8. heisenberg's a *****
  9. Well. We'll get a comp pick if we don't trade him and a larger draft pool. We absolutely shouldn't trade Garza if we dont get that value back
  10. My guess is Schierholtz (or Sori) for Edwards, Ramirez, Alfaro and Olt
  11. Using the "2 pitchers and a position player" template, I'd want to pull from 3 groups like this: Pitcher 1: Perez, Feliz, Tepesch PItcher 2: Edwards, Jackson, Buckel Player: Alfaro, Sardinas, Odor Make sure you get at least one player from each of those lists, and hopefully one guy that's at the top of one of the lists. I'll take Alfaro, Edwards and Payano
  12. so Jackson had a start at AAA that wasn't indicative of how his long-term performance would be? Do you know of any guys who were awful for 250+ PA at AAA and then straightened it out as if nothing happened? Jayson Werth?
  13. That's gotta be a joke. A 23 year old in A, a crappy CF having a terrible year in A+ and a relief pitcher
  14. I don't won't Jackson because he doesn't wear his hat correctly. That's a deal breaker.
  15. Not going to pretend to know anything about CJ Edwards stuff, but his numbers are filthy. Edwards is an athletic arm that has hit mid-90's and, IIRC, shown some potential with his breaking ball. Obviously, Low A numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt, but he is an intriguing arm. ______ If we can get Jackson/Edwards from the Rangers, I think I'll be pleased. Two high upside arms for a half-season of Garza is a solid return, even if they are far away. Agreed, though I also would like to try to grab Victor Payano. He wasn't in BA's top 30 for the Rangers, but he's a 6'6" 20 year old lefty who's projectable who can already run his fastball up to 97 and a potential plus 12-6 curve. He's a youngster in A+ with a 25% K rate. He's a work in progress, but he's got all sorts of potential. At the very least, no lefty will hit him coming out of the pen. Overall stats suck though he's not giving up hits and getting whiffs: 5.42 ERA, 63 H, 83:45 K:BB in 74.2 IP at Myrtle Beach. He's definitely a guy I'd like to sneak in a deal with another more refined pitching prospect or two. Here's a video on him. he was sitting 90 to 95 in that, CB in the mid 70s.
  16. Any chance we make it a threeway to get a top pitching prospect the Cubs like? Just as an example Braves Get: LHP James Russell, SS Luis Sardinas (or Mike Olt?) Cubs Get: RHP Lucas Sims, C Jorge Alfaro, RHP Alex Asher, RHP Cody Martin Rangers Get: RHP Matt Garza, OF Nate Schierholtz I mean obviously that's a big big trade example, though to me it makes a lot of sense on all sides.
  17. The problem there is that he gets a lot of value from his defense and I think most people are simply talking about his offensive performance. Right now he is being out performed offensively by guys like Brandon Belt, Chris Carter and James Loney. I don't think anyone had that in mind for him this season. His defense is top notch but talking purely offense he has been toward the bottom of first basemen. Not that disagree with your point nor do I think those three are better than Rizzo, but it's funny you mention those three. Loney, Carter and Belt were all at one point higher in Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects than Anthony Rizzo ever was.
  18. God the competitive crap is so messed up. Half of those teams interested in Garza... Anyways. I like Ranaudo, if we get him.... Effing fantastic. I stil maintain garza gets us a 75-100 sp though :(
  19. Yes, but .700 is a lot higher than .632. Keep in mind not a single qualified shortstop had an OPS below .644 last year (out of 19). Not trying to say Castro won't bounce back, but anyone can mince numbers to make their point if they try hard enough.
  20. No such thing as a redundant prospect in general. Half of them won't make it, and half of the ones that do will do so at a different than their projected position. The best problem the Cubs could have is if Olt, Bryant, and Baez are all viable options for 3B at the same time. This and two more things. First, position prospects are "safer" than pitching prospects, so stockpile them. Second, if two of Baez, Olt and Bryant all out and we don't have room for the other one at SS, 2B or LF, then we can trade the other one for pitching or something we don't have. Betting on position prospects is the safer, smart move. Of course if we're offered an elite arm that's a day away from the majors, jump all over it. It's a matter of to what degree, but when in doubt error on the side of position prospects.
  21. I depends on who we get for Garza. We'd probably slot Martin Perez in immediately.
  22. The Rangers have a ton of young talent in Hickory and across the low minors. If you can't have Perez, Olt and a few of the lower guys of your choice isn't bad.
