  1. I wouldn't concede the title to the Cubs yet... Brewers still have 7 against the Padres, 9 against the Pirates, 3 against the Reds, and 3 against the Astros
  2. I've never seen a more pathetic display of offense. I would have been happy coming into the series if the Nats took one. They certainly had their one chance yesterday and they blew it. Screw them.
  3. The Nationals better lay down vs. us.
  4. 5 runs in a 4 game series isn't going to cut it.
  5. I'm more surprised that Castro, Nieves and Mock (Mock?!?!) managed to load the bases without commiting an out.
  6. Theres 3 outs
  7. There's 2 outs.
  8. There's one out
  9. Yup, but Peavy is matched up with CC Sabathia who is pretty much untouchable to anyone that's not the Cubs, so thats a wasted pitching matchup, and of course Sheets is matched up with Maddux. The other game is Suppan vs. Baek or whatever his name is, who actually has a 6.93 ERA at Petco
  10. Dunn is second to only Carlos Lee in Cub-killerdom and would be a depressing move for the Cubs sake. Dunn will hit at least 2 HRs against us in the NLDS if he does in fact go to Arizona.
  11. Id pay whatever, but I'm planning on having tickets to all of the World Series game, should they get that far.
  12. And if you look at the Kosuke projections, we are probably going to end up getting what we expected. "They are who we thought they were" Dennis Green style. IIRC, the expected line was .270/15HR/70 RBI and about a .370 OBP with good defense in RF. That's pretty much what we're getting. A bit low on the SLG, but his first month or two have really skewed everyone's opinion of him. Not sure if that's going to be true considering we are at those numbers right now after hitting .353/.455/.500 on May 1st and going ..241/.339/.365 in the 3.5 months since then.
  13. To be honest, I just checked McCovey Chronicles, the SF news paper, did a Google search for 'randy winn cubs' went to BCB, and looked at the ESPN and MLB.com Giants message boards and didn't see anything on it.
  14. On the surface this seems like a good deal but let's dive into it a bit... Winn is a switch hitter with plus speed (22 SB this year) His splits: .300 .363 .384 .747 vs. RHP in 08 .287 .346 .418 .764 career .280 .333 .424 .757 vs. LHP in 08 .289 .342 .439 .782 career So his OPS is higher vs. lefties, but he gets on base less and hits for a lower average. So what is the potential role for Winn? As a platoon partner for Fukudome? Fukudome hits similar vs. RHP and LHP except for a much lower SLG%. If Winn hits vs. LHP instead of Fukudome, we will be getting a slightly higher average, a much lower OBP and a much higher SLG. I honestly have no idea how his defense, but I assume it would be somewhere around league average, so we'd be getting a downgrade in defense over Fuk. As a pinch hitter/late inning replacement? Everyone knows Ward struggled as a PH this year, but over his career he made his name PH. I would assume if we were trading Ward, we would want a competent PH. Here are Winn's stats as a PH: 1-4 in 2008 .321 .410 .509 .919 career So it looks like we would get someone who could come off the bench and hit.
  15. Wow. Why would the Giants want Ward? Ward has had a horrible year this year, but he had a really good one last year. I always thought Ward would come out of it but he never did.
  16. Ugh I don't think associating one's self with Mike Vick and fledgling football leagues is going to help you buy a MLB team. Oh, that league sure will be going places if they are pinning all their hopes on a washed up QB who likes to pay to have dogs kill each other. That's the other thing...it can't look good to baseball owners to be investing (most likely heavily) in a league that is going up against the NFL most likely. The last league that attempted to play professional football folded after 1 season.

  18. Maybe he's just frustrated, but he sounded annoyed to me. He also sounds like someone that is hesitant to listen to advice and coaching. that seems like a leap. i'd like to know what the question was before i jump to that conclusion. if the question was something along the lines of, "Why hasn't the hitting coach been able to help you correct things?" then it reads like he's defending his coach. True, I should have said that depending on the context it sounds like he might be hesitant to listen to advice and coaching. Quotes are taken out of context all the time.

  20. I'm pretty sure we had one of the best rated defenses overall last year as well.
  21. I guess he hates catching TDs in the Super Bowl.
  22. All franchises in baseball need to understand the concept of a "sunk cost". You can't call Kosuke a "sunk cost" right now. You have to give him time, before making that bold statement. I'm still living in a delusional state of mind that Kosuke is just setting everybody up for a HUGE September/October that people won't forget. Seriously, he's shown flashes of being a good player. He is still getting on base, and he's playing very good defense. Is he a $12M/year player? No. Is he putting up even average numbers for a corner OF? But does he deserve to be starting? Yes. Why? Because he's shown in the past he can be good in Japan, he's shown flashes here in the majors as well, we have the best offense in the league with him in there, and honestly there are no better options other than Fontenot at 2B and DeRosa in RF. But even in that scenario you are losing a good bit of defense. But it is very possible he is the next Iwamura, who put up some great numbers in Japan only to be mediocre at best in the MLB
  23. Accept it, the Cardinals are good, at least offensively. Ludwick was a late bloomer (Soto) Glaus was a former 40 HR player (Edmonds) Schumacher is getting his first full season of playing time (Theriot)
  24. Cyno, a lot of people said the Brian Campbell signing was overrated and that Campbell wasn't the complete player they are making him out to me. People say he's a scoring defender for the most part that has his deficiencies. If it's in any way possible, can you compare him to an MLB player in terms of relative talent and maybe his deficiencies. I really want to know what we are getting here.
