Grieve, Murton, Hollandsworth, Hairston, Dubois, or Greenburg could have carried the outfielder role. How the heck do you know that? You have only seen Greenburg in one at bat...and he got hit. Dubois struggled toward quite a bit this year. Grieve...well, he's Grieve. Holla hasn't shown much this year either, save for lately. I don't understand how you can just throw all of those names out there like that means something. Burnitz is going to start in right, Hairston is going to start in center. This leaves Gerut probably in left. I seriously do not see how he could be such a huge upgrade over Dubois or Holly. Grieve fits the pinch-hit role perfectly as a lefty power hitter. I'll admit that I don't know as much about Greenburg, but from what I've seen I think Murton is doing okay in the left field position. The problem I have is that if we are going to try for the wild card then we have to get somebody a little bit more established than Gerut of all people. Somebody that we already know will be a help. Even though Nomar didn't work out, he would fit this role. On the other hand, if we are rebuilding this year then this move makes some sense. Maybe Dubois just doesn't work out for the Cubs and we are going to try and make Gerut a good outfielder. That's fine. But if we are rebuilding then we better start making more moves then this. If this is a rebuild move or a move that sets up to a future move then fine. If it is to stand pat in the outfield, it's ridiculous.
