  1. He's gone. Johnson pinch hit and double switched Camp into LaHair's spot.
  2. Very Nice. Wow, Cutler was horrible. (just saw the replay). Cutler was awesome. We obviously watched different tapes. :-k Good quarterback / bad singer. Sorry.

  4. 96 thru 6. I'd like to see him go seven, but being it's 93 degrees I imagine they'll pull him. Maybe Dale will let him start the inning and pull him if anyone gets on.
  5. From a "confidence in the FO" point of view, I love that they don't allow any leaks. But when you're on the edge of your seat waiting for news is can be awfully frustrating.
  6. CUBS are 18-12 (.600) when their starter pitches 6-1/3 innings or more.... 17-40 (.298) when he doesn't Go CUBS !! edit: CUBS have been outscored 19-1 in the 6th inning of games started by Garza !! Double Plays help, 82 through 5.
  7. 72 pitches through 4, a nice, short inning would be nice. Not a good start though. Even if he stays scoreless, going to be tough for him to go more than 6.
  8. I thank you, and April thanks you !!! :hello: I just think it's cool you get baseball on your anniversary, mine is Dec. 27, no need for you to look up the Cub's record on that day.
  9. Does that mean you got married today? Well, 17 years ago today, eh? Well, Happy Anniversary. =D>
  10. Does that mean you got married today?
  11. My "goals" don't have to change at all because I'm just a guy watching baseball games. What a weird thing to say. Not the first time I've been called weird. . . Seriously, just meant that with the team in "sell" mode, they have obviously decided that replenishing the system and developing those players is the goal of the season - not a world series. Obviously the guys on the field are going to be trying to win every game - and I'll want them to win every game. But the devlopment of those pieces (both the ones that already here and the ones on the way) is more important in the "grand scheme." So my point was, since Ws are going to be hard to find, we can enjoy progress being made, even if the daily results aren't what we'd like.
  12. Enjoy it now, it's about to get a lot worse. http://pendletonpanther.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/debbie.gif?w=480 [expletive]. I think it's more exciting than something to be sad about. The [expletive] it is. The end result down the line will be better, but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that at this moment I would enjoy seeing them bottom out more than what they've been doing recently. n What they've been doing is fun, but for the rest of the year your goals have to change. It will still be fun to watch Castro, Shark, Wood and Rizzo develop and to see growth out of whoever we get back and Jackson and Vitters when they get to Wrigley. Not about Wins anymore, but individual advancement
  13. Only 88 pitches through 6, he's also on extra rest I bet they let him go 1 more. Plus he just tied the record for scoreless innings in Cubs history at 33 IP, let him at least try to record an out to break it. They just said he was done and that the record is 44. Guessing the thought is that he threw about 90 pitches, which is a good step up from the 63 or so he threw last week. Six more scoreless innings, nothing more to prove to the 12 teams scouting him. Get him out so nothing bad happens.
  14. I'd bet this is Demp's last inning, but is it his last as a Cub? (Edit, had to fix a type-o)
  15. I understand the concept, I wasn't aware of the rationale, which is a little weak if you ask me. Totally blocking a possible makeup game for the risk of "extra drunk people hanging around the city" is kind of ridiculous. I live in KY, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that from here everything about the relationship between the Cubs, the City and the residents and business owners of Wrigleyville looks completely ridiculous.
  16. He didn't have Boras representing him. Does Boras have a history of using the courts to overturn CBAs? He's got a hell of a lot more clients already in the union and a hell of a lot more money tied up the contracts he gets his veterans, and the union agreed to this system in a large part because they wanted money being spent on veterans, and not unproven kids. Boras is beyond good, he might even be Johnny Cochran or Rusty Hardin good, at what he does. But I don't see him getting around this one. Cheer up maybe he'll sign, he's got a little time left. Hard to walk away from guaranteed millions for the possiblilty of more next year. He is much more likely to hurt his value over the next year than help it, and he and Boras both know that. It's probably easier to walk away from a one-time $3 million bonus when your dad makes more than that each year and you're supremely confident you can make more than that next year. I get it, but to me it's a stupid gamble. If you think you are that good, the opportunity cost (year of lost service time) is going to be worth much more than the $5 million or so more he could make if everything went "perfectly" next year and he was drafted #1 by a team that managed to about $1 million over slot. Seems to me he is more likely to lose both time and money than gain anything. Oh well, last time I checked neither Boras nor his client had called me for advice.
  17. No, he's not. Okay, will be. Not gonna matter. NFL went through this a few years ago with the Williams kid from USC that wanted to come out earlier than was collectively bargained. He lost - quickly. Courts are VERY reluctant to interfere with what was collectively bargained. He didn't have Boras representing him. Does Boras have a history of using the courts to overturn CBAs? 18. Have they given any estimate on how long it will be?

  20. Boras can sue if he wants, but he's not going to win. In fact, it would likely be thrown out at the first hearing. Like it or not, the system was collectively bargained by the league and union. His client is part of the union so really has no standing to sue. It's possible he could get it in front of an activist judge, but even that is no guarantee of a win and he would likely lose on appeal. Not a lawyer, but that's the way i understand it.
  21. Take it for what it is worth, but both Bowden and Olney have new articles up about trade fits for Upton. Bowden list five potential trades, the Cubs aren't one of them. Olney also lists several trading partners, mentions the Cubs at the end. The entire comment is below:
  22. Thought I'd share. It's an insider article, link is http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8150343/jurickson-profar-texas-rangers-new-no-1-prospect-baseball-mlb
  23. Think he is receiving a bonus from St. Louis, formula is something like $5,000 for every Cardinal plate appearance - $10,000 for every Cub PA. The guy's gotta eat.
  24. What would be the reason for that? College ball is too risky? That's one of the reasons. Stanford has plenty of disregard for pitch courts, Appel threw 149 earlier this year. Also, he can concentrate on baseball/working out full time and ignore academics. Also, if he enters a four-year school he cannot re-enter the draft for three years. If he goes to a Juco or independent league he can re-enter next year. That only applies for HS draftees. Appel is a college junior so he'd be eligible for next year's draft even if he returned to Stanford. Or, I could be an idiot with no idea what he's talking about, either way.
