  1. Yeah I like Chatwood and Cobb enough individually, but together I'm not totally enthused. Neither have any sort of track record of durability and neither will be that cheap. Plus, with Lester exiting his prime, I was hoping for a little more than locking into Chatwood AND Cobb for 3+ years. On the other hand, if they plan on using Montgomery a lot as the 6th starter, durability might not be a big issue. Also, if the Super Offense is formed prior to 2019, it won't much matter who's pitching.
  2. And there's still Montgomery. I can't imagine significant assets would be used to get another starter if Cobb is added.
  3. Morrow 2 yr deal to close Neshek 2 yr deal Rivera 1 yr deal Granderson 1 yr deal Trade Russell, Alzolay, and Zagunis for Archer and Hechavarria
  4. I am sure there is room at the Zachary Hotel. A nice 2 bedroom suite, replete with amenities all for $100/mo. He doesn't make enough to afford a fancy condo after all. In all seriousness, how strict are the non-cash restrictions the Cubs and others are operating under? Is the spend limit confined to cash, or are non-cash equivalents factored in as well? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure MLB will make up the rules as they go along and aren't really prepared to handle everything that incredibly smart people in a major league front office will come up with.
  5. Given the situation, I'd bet Theo is more aware of every Japanese dining custom than even Ohtani.
  6. Lester said during their pitch to him, Theo and Jed showed him the 2016 projected lineup (before the 2015 season) with Heyward in it. I bet Harper's name will get brought up a time or two in the Ohtani sales pitch.
  7. Prior to yesterday, I had done a really good job of not getting my hopes up and almost completely disregarding Ohtani when thinking about the 2018 roster. Buuuut, that's over with. Now I've got him starting opening day.
  8. I would super appreciate some evidence of said budding friendship Apparently my comment was based entirely on one gif. I was thinking there was another funny one with those two but I must have imagined it.
  9. If it's a Hendricks wedding, I hope Javy makes an appearance. Their budding friendship is my favorite thing.
  10. For toonsterwu or anyone else who follows other teams' systems, do you think the presence of Adames would affect how the Rays view Russell, or would they fit well together up the middle? Also I know Archer will make more than Russell the next few years but is it possible Addison would catch or surpass Archer in earnings over the full 4 years by going through arb? Just trying to gauge how realistic a deal is from the Rays' POV. Because for me, having a non QO'd Cozart just sitting out there as a potential replacement for the Cubs is mighty intriguing.
  11. Having a team where Anthony Rizzo is your third best player (a distant third at that) is fun to think about
  12. I voted Happ because I think he's the best blend of having value for other teams while still being replaceable by the Cubs' depth. In the grand scheme, I don't know how much Schwarber or Almora would even bring back right now. That said, I think the pitchers I'd be willing to move Happ for would require the Cubs giving up a lot more with Happ. So I wouldn't be completely shocked if one of the shortstops gets traded for that #2 type pitcher since it'd be easier to find a real backup shortstop (not Freeman) in the offseason.
  13. I've said this before, but I think the shortstop discussion is a reasonable one to have. Even with the throwing issues from time to time, Russell has proven to be the superior defender. But to me, the discussion doesn't end there. Shoulder soreness is something he's battled for more than one season now, and I do wonder if it has affected his swing and hindered his growth at the plate. Maybe it hasn't, but I've wondered about it. And it's not like Russell's defensive runs saved would just disappear, as he'd maybe (likely?) be the best second baseman in the league. When you have a "backup" like Javy, who looked great at SS after he settled in, I think it is something to explore.
  14. Listened to this at work. His answer to the question about Arrieta and/or Davis returning was a long one about how players have the right to search for that big payday and how many factors, short and long term, a team has to consider. I dunno, felt to me like the 2018 plans don't include either of them. I was a little surprised how honest and specific he was about Montgomery's 2018 role, and it sure seems like Happ, Schwarber, or Almora is getting traded.
  15. Hmm, I guess I have a lot more faith in Strop than the coaching staff.
  16. It's been kinda a weird year for him amid all of his success. I think he's done it quite a bit this season.
  17. Why? Completely unnecessary. Strop has been money. You have to win four games, which means that extending Davis for two innings is a dumb idea. I hear ya. I guess I was viewing it as more of a best pitcher vs best hitters situation and he'd only pitch a second inning if really efficient. I don't think it's a guarantee Maddon was expecting 6 outs.
  18. Willy had to move his glove a lot because of how far inside he was set up. But that also means the ump should have had a good view of the plate.
  19. A series doesn't start until a road team wins two games.
  20. Has a team ever lead every game of a series in which they got swept?
  21. I mean I'm sure CJ is much more mentally strong than me, but I hope his postseason performance doesn't ruin him forever. Like I'd think about it all winter and be toast I think.
