  1. I just with the low risk was a NRI for spring training....
  2. Edit: Levine - yes, the one and only Bruce Levine. I'll admit I follow him on Twitter (runs and hides)...
  3. Saw in on Twitter by Levin, it appears to be gaining more traction by the minute. I'm meh on this as well... depends on $$$ and if he can actually rebound from TJS.
  4. Wouldn't have had a problem with him in RF for us and Jackson in Center... but I am not overly disappointed we didn't make a run at him with his age and injury history. However, current state of Card's, not a bad move, they did wonders with Berkman last year on a similar deal.
  5. Good luck marketing this club for the foreseeable future. At least it's the brand and not the team...
  6. Thrilling times for a Cubs fan... glad Theo's house worked out nice, about the only thing that looks to be valuable this offseason.
  7. Kapman is worthless. However, the growing trend is that we are not even serious about the bigger names/talent this offseason. My frustration is centered around an approach that all of our current good talent (outside of Castro) is on the market and in return we have gotten ZERO in return. The only thing positive about DeJesus is his wife and Ian Stewart can't hit a ball out of the infield jn Coors.
  8. To me personally it is the years, this isn't normal, but why not put a 6/170 contract in front of him, let him have option to hit FA again when he is 32 and have a chance to sign something like Albert did?
  9. And now we are the team who gets to deal our good players. Not saying I am against this, but we certainly aren't the aggressive team this winter, we are quickly turning into the team that signs wash-ups and pillaged for good talent. Here's looking to a strong 2012, if we win 65 it may be a miracle.
  10. Exactly where I am, my selfish side of me wishes this wasn't reality, but hey... they are the experts and I do believe in them.
  11. get those 2 and fielder and we are favorites. Agreed, yet it appears new Cub brass doesn't want anything to do with past performances that were good, they look for guys who have had career lows, sign cheap and hope for the best. I haven't seen anything that indicates Theo would consider a SP like Oswalt or Jackson, in fact we have been linked to Darvish (doesn't appear like we will have a shot at him) and now the Pirate washout. That and we are looking to trade Garza, arguably our best starter.
  12. It's a great point, I may be way off on this, but I have a hunch he is working to get Garza moved for a 1B (perhaps Rangers, Moreland) and or even Yankees and take on Tex so Yanks can get Fielder?? Hopefully something similar is in works so we don't have the next 5 years of less than .500 ball.
  13. As much as I love Theo, I do not want him to be our biggest acquisition of the off-season, I have a gut feeling our lineup is going to look something similar to: DeJesus Barney Castro Soto LaHair Byrd Soriano Stewart Pitcher Cant' wait to win 55 games next year!
  14. Toronto is a pretty diverse multi-cultural city. It's not Kansas City. But it's still Canada. Could be much much worse for him. Yep, like starting for our Cubs with the roster we are about to trot out there...
  15. You will enjoy watching him hit, especially in MP. However, if your like me, every time he runs he appears to pull a quad, I cringed when he tried to leg out a double, figured it was another 15DL trip.
  16. This is not good for baseball in general. But selfishly this is simply the best thing that has happened since Theo came on board, in fact I think Theo made this happen. Well done sir!
  17. you seriously think that this is a "core roster" for any type of future team? come on. you're not looking at an unfinished puzzle, you're looking at a puzzle that hasn't even started yet. I agree that this is not our opening day lineup, in fact as Tim mentioned, a prime-slugger away and I'll add a Soriano trade/replacement and it starts to look better. Theo/Hoyer are worlds smarter than I am, so I continue to trust, just slightly jealous we don't have Fielder right now.
  18. Not exactly thrilled with the following core roster: Soriano Byrd DeJesus Stewart Castro Barney 1B - Open Soto It's like looking at an unfinished puzzle, I trust Theo/Hoyer, but man, this is a touch frustrating.
  19. Not saying I am thrilled to have an outfield of Soriano, Byrd and DeJesus, but I have faith Theo/Co. are putting their puzzle together and not randomly giving out contracts like our old regime. (2 year extension for Grabow at 7.5 mill).
  20. Welcome to the forum! If you had joined in 2008 and suggested that trade it would have been a great idea (if we had Garza back then). At this point, though, Wright is more expensive than what he's providing and Garza is cheaper than what he's providing. No thanks. Thanks. The contractual situation looks ugly with Wright, I guess I just cringe at the thought of Ian Stewart as our starting 3B. Probably too much of the Hendry regime, so I must shake that and allow Theo and Jed to do their work.
  21. I wouldn't mind a package of Garza and others for David Wright...
