  1. Shouldn't a head coach be held to a higher standard than a 20 year old student?
  2. I think the NCAA is already a sham in most fans' eyes, but if they let Pearl off with an 8 game suspension while Dez Bryant got a season, they'll lose everyone. They rely above all else on their absolute power. To let Horshack off with an 8 game suspension for lying and then attempting to cover up the lie would be outrageous
  3. The Jim O' Brien/Ohio State ruling has really hamstrung schools with regards to reacting to coaches under investigation. Sampson stuck around at IU for another month or 2 after it was obvious he was going down, and now Pearl is doing the same at Tennessee.
  4. Throwing an interception?
  5. Much of it was the result of being tremendously unlucky, and the odds are against that carrying over to a second year in a row. But that has nothing to do with him being in a contract year. Give him normal luck, and his #s still aren't anything special. But as it was pointed out, he was also dealing with injuries, too. Look, the "playing for a contract" theory isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's something to consider. Not only is Pena playing for a big contract since he's 32, but he's trying to bounce back from a season where he severely underperformed. It wouldn't surprise me to see him have a really decent year in the wake of that so long as he's not dealing with injuries again. I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a good year based on a dead cat bounce, and not having horrible luck. I don't see how you can attribute any part of his success this year to him being a contract year. If he has another bad season, are you going to attribute it to him pressing too much due to the contract year. I need something more than picking and choosing what seasons are good because of a contract push (if they're good) and what seasons aren't (if they're bad)

  7. Pena was playing for his last big contract last year too
  8. And we'll get sanctions from his tenure to boot. I'm happier all the time that Lane skipped town for USC. The NCAA is going to have to rewrite the rule book where sanction follow the coach wherever he goes. Well Pearl will almost certainly get show-caused if it makes you feel any better. (I know it makes me feel better) Tennessee deserves a lack of institutional control, and I imagine Kiffin will go too far eventually and go running back to the pros as an offensive coordinator or something
  9. I think Dan Johnson's my favorite
  10. Padres? Good luck with that option Michael
  11. i think you've inferred that we've slighted your program, which we haven't. this season sucks enough for the illini, and believe me, i know that they have failed miserably and i'll get to watch my team in the NIT or worse again this post-season. no need to kick us while we're down. perhaps a better way to have stated it would have been this: Since 2002, we've had three embarrassing tourney losses. (UNI, Bucknell, Bradley). We've also had three Final Fours, two championship games, and one title. Both of those things are the product of high seeding, so those miserable losses are worth it. I suppose that's just a long-winded way of restating what you already said, so maybe I'll shut up. No, try it again Erik
  12. Well that Perry story was just awful
  13. Only 4 Big Ten teams projected to have winning conference records by Pomeroy. I really doubt that will be the case, but it'd certainly be interesting to see how the tourney bids broke down if that were the case.
  14. I really think all bets should be off on the National Anthem based on her messing up the lyrics. cares about my prop bets>
  15. We were screening him for glaucoma.
  16. Why? I'd like more wins as much as anyone right now, but I'm willing to give the guy some time. Like I said earlier, this team needs to start showing more progress next year. Hopefully another year of experience, health (hopefully), and adding a good post player will do that. You can't ask for much more in what is lined up for 2012 and beyond. If IU is still playing this in two years I'll be concerned. I think the worst is behind them at this point. So if he misses the tournament next year he's not in any danger? And buy out the last 6 years of his contract? Indiana signed Crean to a ridiculous extension for no reason, even if he didn't have the great recruiting classes lined up, he wouldn't be in danger.
  17. I assumed he wasn't serious. Stadium in Skokie, brilliant
  18. I feel like we never win morning games
  19. See the NU game to see what you need to know about IU's goonery. See the non-punishment of Elston and the laughable explanation to know that Crean's a total clown
  20. He hit .276 .342 .504 .846 last year in 272 PA and posted positive UZR in both CF and RF. I doubt he has much left in the tank, but he certainly didn't suck last year. He didn't say he sucked last year
  21. Pretty sure he's a mole for us and is going to Furcal Pujols's leg during an intrasquad game.
  22. He's been much more than an average recruiter at IU. It's actually been an amazing recruiting job. His in-game coaching is still very questionable though. Amazing is a bit of a stretch. It'll be 3 full recruiting years before he brings in a difference maker to a program that recruits itself. I don't think Indiana really recruits itself anymore. Not on the level of a UNC/Duke/Kentucky. Heck, I think MSU "recruits itself" a little more than IU these days Within the state of Indiana in the very least.

  24. Busey will [expletive] end you
  25. Weird that his PED use was ok with the media
