  1. Maybe after next year. Given the constant complaining by Quade about Castro, I doubt a new regime looks to lock the kid up to what would be a lifetime of security for him and all his family. It would be very risky and open them up to criticism for coddling players and not holding them accountable. Yeah, but does anyone really care what Mike Quade thinks? Even the meatballs who would normally eat this stuff up think he's a clueless buffoon. No, not really. But it's not just Quade. It's basically assumed now that Castro is well on his way to becoming a head case. I really doubt a new regime is going to make signing him longterm a high priority in year one. I feel like we're all snakebit by the previous 20 years of front office dumbassery that we're conditioned to think that's just how things work. I'd like to think that a new front office won't care about what the general public/media think, and will do what's best for the team.

  3. Cubs fans who don't appreciate Starlin Castro shouldn't get to be Cubs fans.
  4. Wasting Castro's cheap years is completely unacceptable. Assuming health, in 2 years Castro (while still a huge deal) will start costing actual money. Then you're saying well why sign Votto to a long-term deal, when we're going to have to start paying Castro 8 figures in a couple years!! Albert [expletive] Pujols, no thanks. Holy [expletive].
  5. There won't be flaws on this player in his prime in 2 years? It's unacceptable to have the highest payroll in the division (even writing off Soriano and Z's contracts, we're still right around the Cardinals) and punt 2 seasons. The Cubs have a gaping crater at 1st base at the major league level and in the farm system. There is not a more perfect scenario for Fielder and Pujols to enter the market, and people want to pass on them because we can't guarantee we'd win the division the next 2 years?? These are 2 of the best players in baseball right now, and people are so worried because a contract everyone hated at the time wound up being a contract everyone hated. What the hell is wrong with everyone?
  6. Is there any evidence that Pujols is older other than "JUST LOOK AT HIM!!!" It's not like he was an out of this world dominant force in high school befitting somebody far older than his competition. He didn't become ALBERT PUJOLS until he became a professional.
  7. Gooney finally sobered up.
  8. What makes you say that?
  9. Fleita is part of the middle ages thinking that's permeated this system over the past decade.
  10. But seriously, what a dumbass question.
  11. really? Not that he would be able to take anything for it anyways. I'm pretty sure adderall and ritalin are banned aren't they? Wasn't it Scott Eyre that got busted for Ritalin? You can get a waiver.
  12. I feel like people think Pujols has been a lot worse than he actually is this year. He has a 149 OPS+, something the Cubs haven't seen from a regular in 6 years.
  13. Yes, let's punt the next 2 years.

  15. I guess my standards have been dropped that low that I don't even flinch at stuff like that in sportswriting.
  16. http://www.forbes.com/sites/sportsmoney/2011/06/14/why-jim-crane-could-become-baseballs-most-controversial-owner/ A lot of the article doesn't affect his ability to be a good owner(though it does make him a terrible person), but the breaches of fiduciary duty would have me livid if I was an Astros fan. The vote for his approval as owner has already been pushed back, which likely means Selig doesn't have the necessary votes to get him through.
  17. If they get the owner Bud's trying to push through, I'm not sure Friedman can save them.
  18. He had Alan Trammell for 4 and a half months last year.
  19. There's no sense in asking a guy currently employed by another team what he thinks about possibly taking another job, let alone a guy who's a GM. Nobody goes up to Pujols expecting him to say how he'd listen if the Cubs came calling.
  20. He wasn't using it to degrade him.
  21. I doubt it's happened often, because you'd have think he'd have been burned on it by now if he's constantly turning his back while a pitch is being thrown.
  22. Yep, seemingly once they pointed it out and went with the picture in picture they were going to pick on anything they could to develop the storyline. Having his back to the plate was pretty damn inexcusable.
  23. Short answers to Scotti: -Past Performance Is Not Indicative of Future Results -You must think the Ricketts family got a steal on the Cubs and are true financial geniuses -You're essentially saying you know the A's financial situation better than Forbes and that the A's owners are utter buffoons for giving up a 4% share in the greatest investment vehicle ever created.
  24. Houston might be the worst organization in baseball. And they stand to get worse when the new owner comes in.
