  1. Ken_Rosenthal 8 minutes ago Confirmed:#Marlins have made 10-year offer to Pujols. Source says two sides trying to work through no-trade issue. MORE # MLB
  2. This offer we made is not going to be enough to land Pujols. I feel as if the Cubs are just setting the table to go after Prince.
  3. The comments on that article are hilarious: Steve Stone? Is that you? Ha! Another classic: "This is worse than Favre, because the Brewers don't have a 1B prospect waiting in the wings. horrible"
  4. Brewer fans starting to get nervous about him making the 90 mile trip to Chicago.
  5. Dallas - In what appears to be a much smaller market for free-agent slugger Prince Fielder than many expected, I have suspected all along that the Cubs eventually will be a team to jump in on him. When Dale Sveum was named manager, it provided another lure for Fielder. Here is a report that suggests the Cubs prefer Fielder over Albert Pujols, given a choice of the two. Whether that means they will actually make a strong bid for him remains to be seen. But, one by one, it seems other possible suitors are out. Yet, here is another report that says the Cubs have made a bid on Pujols. So, which of these reports do you believe? Perhaps the Cubs are covering both bases with the free-agent sluggers. The refrain I often get from Brewers fans regarding Fielder is "anybody but the Cubs" so this news will certainly be disturbing to them, if it's true that Chicago will make a play for him. Perhaps if they have no shot at Pujols, they go harder after Fielder. We will see. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/135094383.html
  6. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel tweets, "You hear rumors about Seattle, Toronto and Baltimore being interested in Fielder but insiders say no. I think Cubs are team to keep eye on
  7. Speculation but I like it: Jerry Crasnick tweets, "One person who knows Prince Fielder says "comfort'' important to him and he's not necessarily "going to chase the most money.'" Could comfort include staying in the NL Central where he knows the pitchers? Could it also mean reuniting with Dale Sveum, a person Fielder is known to highly respect as well as being his hitting coach last season? The Brewers reportedly offered 6 years $120M. The Cubs could top that offer with 5 years and $125M-- maybe even 4 years at something like 110M would be more enticing because of the higher AAV. The Cubs did shed a lot of payroll and they may create more if they trade Zambrano, Marmol, and/or Soriano. With the Cubs filling out the roster with value signings, they could certainly squeeze that type of salary in. And let's not forget we are still a major market.
  8. WSCR reporting the Pujols derby is down to the Marlins and Cardinals. They also reported that the Cubs have shifted their focus to Prince Fielder. Let us hope so.
  9. Cubs not swinging for fences on first day http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs
  10. According to ESPN's Buster Olney, "the Tampa Bay Rays are telling teams they will talk about B.J. Upton but will have to be overwhelmed to move him." Hmm.
  11. Source: #Twins also on Buehrle, joining #Nationals, #Marlins, #Rangers. Offer not as strong. Others believed 3 yrs in $36-39M range. #MLB
  12. The Anatole is monstrous. I am quite sure Theo and Jed are getting sloshed at the Gossip bar lounge while chatting up Boras and Lozano. Not to mention, the perfect 10 ladies who frequent this lounge. Ahh, I love Dallas. With the Rule 5 and all, I figure tomorrow will be more interesting. Yes and tonight will be very busy as well. I had the pleasure of going to the winter meetings in 2000 when it was held at the Anatole in Dallas and it was a blast. So many GM's hanging out, chatting, having a few and engaging the fans. Boras having Gammons follow him around like a puppy trying to get word on A-Rod, etc. I think you'll hear a lot of Cubs rumors start to fly tonight.
  13. I did 10 years ago. http://www.limo-dallas.com/images/350_ghostbar.jpg

  16. Did they stay in or eat out? Hotel Anatole would be room service. Absolutely the best hotel in Dallas.
  17. @Ken_Rosenthal #Cubs met today with Pujols' agent, Dan Lozano. No word on nature of talks. #MLB Lozano: "Theo, Albert has no interest in leaving STL for you guys, but we want to help out by driving the price up and thus either getting STL to up their offer, or having another team over pay". Theo: "Sounds good, Dan". On to Prince.
  18. Lazy and brown. The Wrigley racists will not have him  .
  19. Theo addresses the rumors. I love what I am hearing! Love this quote and the emphasis on 2012, taking advantage of every opportunity (Prince or Albert?) and young players. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/7329/epstein-not-tipping-free-agent-hand
  20. Cheap, versatile player and obviously a move to save money for Prince once Sori is dealt :)
  21. Also said he did not know if Mike Maddux was indeed the top choice for the managers job. He said MM is a "weird guy" but in a "good way" and it's possible that he knew the Cubs wanted Sveum and that caused him to back out.
  22. Basically Kurkjian is saying that he feels the Cubs are going to go after either Fielder or Pujols, but that in the end, he sees no way possible that Albert leaves for the "arch rival". He feels Fielder is a better fit here and that the Cubs need a big bat.
  23. I have to say this article leads me to believe with 100% certainty now that the Cubs will make an offer to one of them. Edit: And also that if one one of them does sign, IMO, it will be Fielder.
  24. In the latest from Sullivan: Ricketts comments on the Pujols and Fielder pursuit and as he has said in the past, if Theo wants to sign either of them, he has his support!!! \:D/ http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-ricketts-megadeal-decision-on-fielder-or-pujols-up-to-epstein-20111129,0,646634.story
