  1. You'd have to think that the Marlins could be screwing up many teams plans by throwing all of these years and dollars around. If a team has a plan in place but see that the Marlins are offering higher than the the comfort level some other teams might want to offer, it has to completely alter their plans. The Marlins are altering the winter meetings, which is actually laughable considering that they are a small market team that can not draw fans.
  2. In case anyone missed this, the Marlins have just offered C.J. Wilson a 6 year deal per Tom Verducci when interviewed on MLB Network. Money not mentioned.
  3. Breaking per MLB Network: Marlins have just offered C.J Wilson 6 year deal as they shift their focus to pitching. Money not disclosed but looks like the Marlins will stop at nothing to win a world series.
  4. I like productive, oval shaped players who have OPS' of .939.

  6. Theo is in: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2UmCSlZu53c/Sof8VsSLxqI/AAAAAAAAAVs/ti28fgGx-dY/s400/StealthMode3.gif At least I hope he is.
  7. I don't get why people keep talking about Prince, then looking at Mo Vaughn and thinking that's a terrible thing. During his age 30 season, Vaughn hit 40 homers with 117 RBIs and a .402 OPB. During his age 31 season, he hit 33 with 108 RBIs and a .358 OPB. During his age 32 season, he hit 36 homers with 117 RBIs and a .365 OPB. Then he got hurt. When he came back, during his age 34 season, he hit 26 homers with 72 RBIs and a .349 OBP. That last season is not great, of course, but that would be Fielder's seventh season of a seven-year contract. So, if Fielder produced like Vaughn did from his age 28 season to his age 34 season, why would that be bad again? Well, it wouldn't. We just have too many people on this board who think Pujols is light years better than Fielder. And that is not the case at all. And I would love Pujols to be a Cub.
  8. Prince Fielder has a lifetime OPS of .929, which is very sick. Pujols, of course, is beyond nuts at 1.037. That said, given the age difference, if we can't get Pujols, I will be happy if it we get Prince.
  9. Everything about Prince Fielder says he is absolutely worth the money and years. No, not 10 years but 6 or 7, yes. He is a difference maker, a leader and a team player. Jed Hoyer making me feel good here:
  10. Yeah, if I hear something like: "Cubs jump in and trump all offers, steal Pujols at last minute", I will go nuts. However, it looks like Fielder is the target now.
  11. I have no doubt they know the Pujols ship has sailed to Miami. I really think Theo and the gang know what a special, young talent Fielder is and they'll make a serious play for him. This will not hinder their plan to draft well and build from within. No reason at all not to sign one of the great talents in the game if he's available. Time for Sveum to go into recruit mode.
  12. Why don't we wait until, say... Februrary at the earliest before anyone makes the conscious decision to consider writing off the season, yeah? I agree with that. I will let the winter meetings play out and see who signs where. If Pujols and Prince are still on the board, I will feel better. I actually want Fielder more than Pujols.
  13. Prince Fielder: Report: Mariners front-runner for 1B Fielder Prince Fielder - 1B - MLW - Dec. 6 - 3:39 pm et The Mariners are now considered the front-runners for free agent Prince Fielder, according to ESPN's Jim Bowden. This is speculation and not fact, but at least its based in sound logic. The Brewers, Cubs and Blue Jays all want Fielder to agree to a shorter contract, which hampers their odds. The Brewers offered six years for $120 million, Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopolous said they're not willing to offer more than five years and the Cubs' strategy is to offer a higher annual salary for fewer years. If the Mariners get aggressive, Fielder might be there for the taking. Of course, the Rangers have been relatively quiet on the Fielder front and could suddenly emerge with a big offer. Dec. 6 - 3:39 pm et Source: Jim Bowden on Twitter This is just getting depressing. Once again, though, I trust Theo but I can't watch this team lose 95 games next year. I'd like to have a good summer of baseball.
  14. And having said all that, I do not really believe that Theo is ready for the Bryan LaHair era to begin. So lets sign the Prince.
  15. You can't just decide that one or two players are must-haves. You can't stop one crazy team from overpaying what a player is worth to you. And Fielder? Why would the same statement not apply? Because he will not be getting a 10 year deal worth over 20M per.
  16. You can't just decide that one or two players are must-haves. You can't stop one crazy team from overpaying what a player is worth to you. And Fielder?
  17. Not giving Albert 10 years is a sign of being prudent, imo. Fielder can be had for less years. As I said, one of the two is what I am looking for. Now if Pujols and Fielder come out and say: "I never had any interest in going to the Cubs", then I can live with that. But if its because we refused to make a serious run at them, then, well. So in other words...Epstein got a whole month to turn things around. No and I said I trust him. I just feel we need to grab one of these two as we need a 1B and it certainly will not deter them ftom sticking to their plan. Like I said, I trust Theo but the Marlins being this much of a player kinda sucks being that we are in Chicago.

  19. If we do not sign one of these two, I have to admit, I will not be impressed with Theo's initial "doing it the right way schtick". We are not talking about fringe players here, we are talking about two of the very best sluggers in baseball that Tom Ricketts said he would go after should Theo and Jed want to. I have full trust in him but watching the Marlins go after it this hard does not sit well with me when we happen to have a team that plays baseball in the city of Chicago in front of people who actually give a damn.
  20. Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Cubs' interest in Fielder is on shorter deal, not eight or nine years. Would pay high dollars in exchange for shorter term. #MLB Prince has to love this if true.
