  1. That's nothing for the big fella.
  2. A guy at 2B with one out is not statistically more likely to score than a guy at 1B with no outs. I think he's less likely to score. None were as good at hitting as Soto. And that would have still been better than no one on and two outs, which is what happened. I'm not hell-bent against bunting, but not in that situation. If Soriano got on in front of Theriot, with Lee and Ramirez due up- I'd probably have him bunt. But not with a good hitter up and no one as good due up for two more spots nor on the bench to come in. You guys are whooping me. It's hard to argue period, even harder when the result was a DP. Regardless, I love the analysis. If it makes you feel any better, I didn't know or believe anything I typed above until about 5 years ago. I.E., there was a time not too long ago I'd have been right there calling for a bunt.
  3. That would be lovely.
  4. The thinking is a successful bunt gets that real fast guy on second to score on a single easier.
  5. Because they either haven't seen the umpteen times this year that the Cubs failed to move runners over on sac bunt attempts, or their brain cramps made them forget all those failed attempts. I've got at least two times off the top of my head over the past few years they've tried in St. Louis specifically, that led to double plays. And, people assume that a successful bunt means the next guy would get a hit? I know some of us are assuming Soto could have done better not bunting, but I'd rather be wrong about that then giving up the out(s) on purpose and being wrong.

  7. I guess people on the call in show went so far as to accuse Soriano of ignoring a bunt sign when he was up. I sure as hell don't ever want Soriano trying to bunt someone over for Theriot.
  8. Unless I'm reading mlb.com wrong, the Angels are in the bottom third of baseball in sac bunts.
  9. Who did the great LaRussa have bunt in the situation you just described? A 20 homer guy? ROY candidate? I understand what you are saying. I'm just not all up in arms over it. It could have went either way. Pretty much the best case scenario still called for Soto making an out on purpose, which is why everyone's pissed. He's been one of the best hitters on the team- let him swing the bat and try to win the game instead of making an out and reducing your chance to score by sending up two batters in a row not as good as him after that.

  11. Maybe Fielder will kick his ass now.
  12. Same thing happened with me. I was very happy watching Reds highlights this morning. Good luck to them the next two games.
  13. Theriot could go yard there. no he couldn't He could left-handed even.
  14. Theriot could go yard there.
  15. why were you listening to colin cowherd? that was your first mistake. It's unbelievable how much bad sports radio I will listen to just because it's sports radio. He is a one trick pony (makes a polarizing statement to attract calls / listeners), defends every one of his points with a faulty analogy, and repeats his little thoughts ('it's the hall of fame, not the hall of very good') over and over. Yet, since it is sports, I listen.
  16. Colin Cowherd was "I told you so-ing" yesterday about his theory that the Cubs will 'find a way to lose'. I'd love to have his crap played back to him on his show if they go on to win. And I heard Timmy on Mike and Mike and agree that he was gloom and doom with no basis, just because it's the Cubs.
  17. I think your garden variety MRI requires no injection, it's only when they need a real deep look that they have to inject dye. Regular MRIs are loud and annoying, but involve no pain at all. But yeah, it's good he didn't need the dye either way. And, if he got a cortisone shot, that'll stop the inflammation, but usually guys need a few days to get over that. This is about the best news we could get, given the potential ramifications.
  18. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1145318,earlyzam090408.article I'm holding my breath until we hear more, but so far so good. Wow, this is pretty good news. Tendonitis is not a quick healer usually and sometimes they'll do a cortisone shot or somthing, but if this is what it is I'm cautiously optmisitic.
  19. haha. I'm going Friday night and wouldn't mind seeing him.
  20. So we're not just lining up the rotation to stick it to St. Louis? Damn.
  21. He has a pretty famous playoff home run from back when he was a Yankee. That was off a good pitcher, so I'm gonna extrapolate that out to 2008, divide by three, and say he will do well.
  22. GO Cardinals!
  23. What a sad situation this has turned into. So much promise, but so many injuries.
  24. PURELY from watching some Reds games, he's no Hank White defensively.
  25. It's not as fun to check BP playoffs report every day like it was last year. We'd have crazy swings of like 7-10% every day depending on what happened. Not as much fun, but I prefer it this way!
