  1. Just got back from the Peoria vs Cedar Rapids game. Sat right behind home plate by the scouts, my buddy hooked me up with some solid tickets. :good: Austin Kirk was pitching, sat 87-89 most of the night. Touched 90 a few times. Has a really good curve, a slower curve that was 69-71, reminded me a lot of Lillys. Its definitely his out pitch right now. It will be interesting to see how he does as he moves up. Not sure he'll rack up the K's like he is in A ball. He throws a lot of strikes, usually around the plate. Overall I was really impressed. Kirk doesn't have any pitch that will wow you but he throws strikes and paints the corners. I'll be at the game tomorrow so I'll try to look more at the position players, although now that Szczur is gone, there's not a lot of intrigue there. I do think Alcantara has the chance to be a major league SS. I like his range, and he has a good arm. He's still pretty young too. I'll have more tomorrow and Monday
  2. I will be at the CR vs Peoria game tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Kirk should be pitching tonight or tomorrow.
  3. Love the patience from Golden Unfortunately the Cubs don't have a good track record with teaching young players to take walks, fortunately Golden already has it down. Obviously its early, but I think Golden could really break out next year if he stays shape this off season. (camp colvin maybe?) Love his upside
  4. Springfield with two doubles Maybe something has "clicked" for him? :-k
  5. What are the chances the Cubs sign another big bonus guy?
  6. So we've signed the #8, 9 and 30 of BA's top 40 international prospects? Thats pretty solid \:D/
  7. Really encouraged by Goldens patience. As mentioned, his k's are less of a problem if he can hit for power and get on base at a good rate.
  8. If Golden keeps hitting, what are the chances he gets called up to Peoria?
  9. In his last AB with a runner at 2nd, Vitters swings at the first pitch and hits a weak grounder. That, and his inability to walk pretty much sums up Vitters career thus far. #-o
  10. I feel the Cubs system has absolutely no difference makers right now. A lot of solid every day guys, but no potential stars. Matt Szczur is about the only guy I would put in that category. (and that may be a stretch) I would say that's the biggest weakness in the system right now. Austin Kirk is the perfect example of what I mean, solid statistically, but doesn't have the raw stuff to be anything more than a #5 or 4 starter in my opinion.
  11. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Baez signed before August. I agree on Vogelbach and Maples though. I think Maples ends up at UNC.
  12. I might as well add that I'm also a new member :hello: I'll be at the Peoria/CR Kernels series coming up July 9-11 so I'll be able to give some scouting reports.
