  1. I see Richie Shaffer is #10 on scouting baseballs top 100. Everything I've read about him makes me wish there was a way the Cubs could get him anywhere but 6th. Great bat speed, great approach, huge power.
  2. I've always liked Matt Cerda, especially if he can play 2B. High OBP, just wish he could raise his slugging a bit. If he could slug at least 400, he would be a really nice option at 2B for the Cubs in the future.
  3. I loved Richie Shaffer out of hs...probably a reach at 6...and probably no way he falls to 43... :x
  4. Was just about to post this http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2012/index.jsp?tcid=mm_mlb_news
  5. Any chance Matt Smoral or Ty Hensley will still be on the board at 43? Would love to see the Cubs take a high ceiling HS arm with our comp picks.
  6. Nolan Fontana (Florida) definitely resembles a Theo Epstein type of prospect. High OBP, good fielder, solid hitting skills.
  7. My top 5 for in order for Cubs 1st rounder (realistic options) 1. Gausman (Most upside of the college arms in my opinion) 2. Fried (Projectable frame with already 90-92 FB, plus curve, average change,) 3. Zunino (Probably the safest pick in the draft, not sure if he'll stay behind the plate) 4. Giolito (Despite the injury, still would be hard to pass up) 5. Correa (I actually like him more than Buxton)
  8. In the comments section, Arizona Phil (the guy who does these great reports for us) says that Baez's double hit the 422 sign. Says even some of his outs have been near HR's. I'm really trying to temper my excitement because its just EXT ST. but its getting tough.
  9. I was thinking the same regarding Hernandez, I was surprised he made Peoria before Baez to begin with. If he doesn't pick it up and Baez continues to rake, I could see a mid May call up for Baez. Although I still think the Cubs want this new approach to be firmly installed in these young players heads, so I could understand keeping him in AZ.
  10. Didn't see this posted yet Today in Arizona... Javier Baez was 3-4 with a three run homer and TWO triples \:D/ Dan Vogelbach 1-2 with a HR and a BB Jeimer Candelario 2-3 with with a double and a BB Taylor Scott threw two innings of hitless baseball http://www.thecubreporter.com/2012/04/10/baez-vogelbach-demolish-giants
  11. I'm hoping for Nathan Kirby, Hunter Virant or Luke Sims at 43.
  12. Assuming you're referring to college pitchers with ace potential? Because I think there are 3-4 hs pitchers with ace potential. Bats at 6 I like Zunino or Correa Doubt Buxton gets that far
  13. Vitters with two line drive hits today
  14. I liked Gausman out of high school and I like him just as much now. I think he has #2/#3 starter potential. If you want ace potential, I like Walker Weickel. I'm hoping the Cubs go with some high risk high reward hs players with our comp. picks. Cubs system lacks star power, outside of Baez and maybe Rizzo.
  15. Sadly, this is the first thread I've been checking every day for a while now. Thats when you know you've had a bad season...
  16. I sure hope this is all true What a great draft if so
  17. I doubt we get any of those guys For Carlos Pena? I doubt it.
  18. At what point does Jeimer Candelario get promoted? I think he could handle AZL
  19. Anyone who's 24 in the DSL isn't much of a prospect in my opinion. How soon until the new Dominican prospects get to the DSL?
  20. Like others have mentioned, the Red Sox or any team for that matter, would have to offer something more than a few mid level prospects. Especially considering Garzas contract. That's a great value for a guy who's probably a #2 or 3 on most good teams. I don't think the Red Sox have anything that would warrant trading Garza. If the Yankees are willing to give up Montero, I would consider that.
  21. Damn, I wish they would've promoted Liria last week so I could see him pitch this past weekend. Oh well, I'll see Peoria again in mid August, hopefully so new names on the roster by that time.
  22. Thanks! Do you know how accurate the gun is? Peralta's repertoire is a FB, slider and change so that might be what you saw coming in 77-80 From what I was told they had some issues with it earlier this year, but it worked just fine this weekend.
  23. Peralta was throwing 91-93 last night, had what I think was a good slider at 83-85 and another slower breaking pitch around 77-80.
  24. That post pretty much sucked
