  1. Davis absolutely is getting QO'd barring any sort of late season injury and/or his medicals looking awful (which his performance wouldn't indicate this year) I assumed that Davis and Arrieta would get the QO. I'd be happy with either for another year. Haven't looked at Cot's for a while, didn't realize they have about $56MM coming off the books (not counting Montero). Not expecting a wacky spending spree but there will be plenty of payroll available. Hard to accept that Heyward is the highest paid Cub the next two years.

  3. I thought he meant one dimensional offense relying heavily on running game. they also have guys that can throw the ball. the line should be fine. You make fair points. I've just taught myself to exercise caution before I believe in a Bears unit reaching its potential after a couple preseason outings.
  4. one dimensional running game? they have two distinct type of backs that can share the ball. Whitehair at guard is better than Long at guard and moving Grasu to center isn't different than playing Kush or Larson at guard. i'm not worried. I thought he meant one dimensional offense relying heavily on running game. Right
  5. The running game not as good? I mean, it's possible, but it was fine with Long being out much of the year. They also added the perfect compliment to Howard in Cohen. Assuming health, the running game will be elite. Long may not even start the season. If Grasu starts at center and Whitehair shifts to G that seems much worse than last year when Kush/Larson stepped in. Again, it may just be my constant sense of impending doom, but the line just feels thin. Another reason for my concern is the defense stacking up against the run since the WR depth is so poor top to bottom. A one dimensional running game doesn't seem like the recipe for a winning team. I hope I'm wrong and you're right. The pieces are there, I'll give you that.
  6. I have Bears excitement defense mechanisms built in over years of crummy teams that are kicking in now. I want to be excited, but then I remind myself its only preseason. I've been hurt before! Logically though, there are positives. I'm not as bullish on the running game being as strong as last year, mainly due to a lack of depth on the O-Line. The WR group is still pretty blah and could be a real drain on the running game. TE, QB, RB, are all exciting positions on offense though. Defensively it's hard not to get excited about the front 3 & OLB's. Hopefully the secondary can step up and display some general competence and benefit from the pass rush and really look good.
  7. That was a fun read. My favorite part was the fan testimonials: My wife and I are expecting our first child, and Finish Line had Browns onesies on sale, so I bought three sets, for $5 each. Good deal, right? I have never seen her lose her temper faster than when I showed them to her. I may as well have showed her baby Klan robes, she was that disgusted.
  8. SAD! /trump
  9. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2017_07_04_boiasx_eugasx_1&t=g_box&sid=milb Boise player Danial Jipping 0/9 with 6k's Worst line ever for anyone?
  10. You can tell the youngest one hates him like all his teammates. Not even singing along.
  11. I especially liked the "long stare into the Cardinals dugout" afterward (call by Len). I hope he give Pederson or whomever it was on the Dodgers in sprinter position the same stare after a pickoff (or just quits while he's ahead).
  12. Agreed you don't want those guys as your 4th LB. They are basically STers. I have a suspicion they are high on Roy Robertson-Harris and he'll compete for that 4th spot with Houston. Its the only explanation for the lack of offseason activity at OLB considering the depth and injury history of those spots. Last I heard, Robertson-Harris has put on some weight (to about 285) and will compete at DE. Of course, he's still listed at 268 and a LB on the website. I assume that RRH is now a DE and Howard just displaced Sutton from the depth chart
  13. Yes, please
  14. Dream scenarios: 1 - trade back with Carolina - a couple second day picks would be great in this draft 2 - trade back with Cleveland - next years first would be the best thing, at least a couple second day picks would be in order 3 - one of 1 or 2 plus a trade back into the first to get the QB you want 4 - pick your favorite at 3 - Adams, Thomas, Lattimore, Trubisky, Watson - any would be great additions
  15. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/sunday-notes-whitleys-cattle-cubs-butler-gausmans-analogy-yard-goats-more/ New market inefficiency: don't change pitchers Arrieta was told not to pitch the way that got him to the pros. Butler, who was the Oriole who was the best minor leaguer to touch a baseball again? Not just pitchers - Castro had some deprogramming that he eventually had to ignore. In all seriousness this seems like a pretty easy thing to do, but just like people make comments about tanking being easy, it's not. I'm sure what Colorado was doing with Butler was something that happens to every prospect to some degree. Why was it too much for him? Why did the Cubs approach make more sense? Sure, he was doing something that felt more natural, but it seems to mean that the caliber of coaching and the effort to monitor and understand the player is what is making the difference.
  16. My bet is 3 wins
  17. Outstanding article. The final paragraph comparing him to some of the best hitters in the game is bonerific. Someone must have a gif for that
  18. Nah...but that doesn't mean any of us would recognize it if we saw it... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cladding_(construction) I guess I forgot that this is industry jargon. We manufactured the silver painted aluminum that wraps the canopies and columns that you can see behind the crowd.
  19. My company produced the cladding product on that building behind him. Nice to see it in a Cubs video
  20. Is pic #10 the top of the Jed Hoyer parade sweatsuit? I would buy that regardless of price, and I don't wear clothes like that. It would be like draping myself in velvet (I think)
  21. As many others have said, thank you, bukie, for doing this. What a great way to pass the off season. Terrific idea exquisitely executed.
  22. This is crazy to watch. Very cool, even if Almora doesn't turn into Manny, though that would be fine
