  1. I say take both and rule the world.
  2. He certainly looks like a Cub right now.
  3. s.p.e.c.u.l.a.t.i.o.n.
  4. Did you hear Alfonso Soriano’s excuse for not winning this year? It wasn’t his 1-12 postseason flop. According to Soriano, “We’re a very good team for [162] games, but we don’t do nothing after that,” he said. “That’s the difference. We’re not put together for [a short series].” taken from here... http://hirejimessian.com/2008/10/07/not-with-a-bang-but-a-whimperagain/
  5. The Cubs are still undecided as to whether they want to ship the final three years of Alfonso Soriano's 8-YR/$136 million contract. "I’m still here, part of the Chicago Cubs," Soriano said. "We’ll see what happens in the offseason. I hope they find a good GM, and we can be contenders next year. If not, I don’t want to be on another losing team. So I hope that they want to build and can build it the right way." The Cubs next general manager will be working with payroll that has not been available in recent years, as Aramis Ramirez ($14.6 million), Kosuke Fukudome ($12.5 million), Carlos Silva ($11.5 million), and Carlos Pena ($10 million) all have expiring contracts. Source: Chicago Sun-Times Sep 30 - 12:41 PM Soriano for GM? He seemed to understand that the 2008 Cubs weren't built to win a 5 game series. Maybe he has a broader skill set that no one has tapped into before? SORIANO FOR GM !!!
  6. NLDS Cardinals over Phillies in 4 Brewers over Diamondbacks in 4 ALDS Tigers over Yankees in 5 Texas over Rays in 4 NLCS Brewers over Cardinals in 5 ALCS Tigers over Texas in 5 WS Brewers over Tigers in 7 This will be an all time World Series.
  7. I think Red Sox fans have a right to call out Epstein. He has thrown around some bad money recently. The signing of Carl Crawford is still amazingly head scratching. I am not saying Epstein is bad, but hopefully he has learned some lessons this season about building with depth. If he has I will welcome him to the Cubs. If he hasn't, he scares the crap out of me.
  8. Well, that was heartbreaking.
  9. I really thought the Rays would have got him.
  10. The guy's already given the Cubs a hometown discount (when he could have gotten the biggest contract of his career), so I think he does honestly want to stay here, so this likely means the ball is in the Ricketts' court. This is all going to come down to them being willing to make the necessary money available. If they go hard after guys like Wilson and Pujols/Fielder then I think they'll be able to get Aramis back at a reasonable price. Sounds like a win-win to me. I would love for him to sign a two year extension, but reality favors a three year deal. Netting Pujols, Wilson, and Aramis would be a real nice off season. I think the bookends are very possible, but Wilson is going to be tough. Lots and lots of teams are going to be going after him very hard.
  11. That could possibly account for a *small* portion of his rotten egg.
  12. Do we have what it takes to get Joey Votto? Probably not, but that would be like a sweet drip of honey sauce in my mouth.
  13. I hear Peacock Douglas is available.
  14. Not going to get Pujols or Fielder!? Naysayers. Bah.
  15. I think I am the only one who doesn't want Epstein. I don't think he will find repeat success like many seem to believe he will. I am warming to Beane because of all the incredible pitching talent that comes out of Oakland. The only thing about Beane that worries me is offense. Maybe a higher draft budget will aid him in that area though? In the end, I still would love either Friedman or Beane, but I would also be thoroughly pleased with a young up and comer who says all the right words.
  16. I like it. The AL will be gaining a nice punching bag for a few years.
  17. I am starting to hope we go with a newbie.
  18. I am completely with you on this one. Pretty shocked that the Nationals are apparently not going after either guy. Baltimore is always a possibility. I could see the Pirates being a crazy crazy deep dark horse. I think the Giants will be in the mix as well. I will go on record now and say Toronto gets Pujols and we get Fielder.
  19. Red Sox v. Angels - Red Sox in 5 Tigers v. Yankees - Yankees in 3 Red Sox v. Yankees - Red Sox in 7 Phillies v. Diamondbacks - Phillies in 5 Brewers v. Braves - Brewers in 4 Phillies v. Brewers - Brewers in 5 Red Sox v. Brewers - Brewers in 6 Sucks for the Red Sox
  20. Coletti would be hilarious. I couldn't imagine Ricketts reading about Coletti, and then subsequently reading about him after "the hire" and feeling like he made the best decision. There. is. no. way. Ned. Coletti. will. be. given. the. keys. to. the. Chicago. Cubs. Stop.
  21. David Wright is just fine. If we can get him, we absolutely should.
  22. Brad Penny is a wanker.
  23. Cherington is climbing my lists by the day. These media blurbs make me sad, but I am wishing away all the bad thoughts.
