  1. Olt has been horrific. There is no getting around that. I don't anticipate him ever being anything more than a utility type going forward. There are serious problems when you're hitting .180 in the PCL.
  2. Does anyone believe Vitters would have fared better if Theo had been around when he was drafted? It's still a bit puzzling to me a guy as talented as he is couldn't figure it out. I mean, his bat speed/control is so impressive, yet, he could never get the idea of plate discipline down? His defense at 3B sure never helped either. However, I guess I just don't understand how he never amounted to becoming a regular in the majors. Especially, with the black holes we've been running out there at 3B (minus Valbeauna who I like). The lack of power was a bit alarming too. Vitters is like a poor mans Howie Kendrick, but doesn't have the value of playing 2B.
  3. Getting late in the year - thanks to all you guys who update these threads daily. (You know who you are) You guys are much appreciated.
  4. Surely a few people remember this guy. Wilken did not draft well here. I have no idea what his exact position is now, but I only hope he does not have a huge hand in the decision Making. Edit - didnt realize how old this news was. Ignore my hatrid for Wilken.
  5. The two "woulda, coulda, shoulda" moves that have been available to us, that needed to happen were that([expletive] you Dempster) and Puig. Dempster and Puig and or Cespedes(sp?)
  6. I would do Giolito for Garza. We have a few months left of Garza and Giolito is one hell of a lottery ticket going forward. I am not sure what the consensus on him now is, but he is a top 25 prospect as soon as he starts throwing.
  7. If Hendry made this signing, there would be outrage. This signing is a non-issue. We are not spending this year anyway.
  8. He is not worth $26M + whatever he signs for.
  9. I will pass on Dempster. I hadn't realized McCarthy was a free agent. He would be very nice assuming he is healthy.
  10. I don't remember where, but I am 100% sure I read in the offseason the Marlins were only spending this money to sell tickets and they were going to unload a lot of the salary as soon as they could. What is mind boggling to me is why you trade Hanley for Eovaldi. Eovaldi while young never struck me as a great young arm. Talk about selling low on Hanley. If you were going to trade him why go through the trouble of moving him to 3rd in the first place after signing Reyes? If they would have traded Hanley after they signed Reyes - there is no doubt they would have gotten almost double the return IMO. And the move before that to trade for Carlos Lee.. I think that has to be the worst year of acquisitions and moves maybe ever.
  11. Somebody might hire Guillen for something, but I'm guessing that Major League Baseball has seen the last of Bobby V. Wouldn't suprise me if one or both of their names came up next time there's an opening. MLB owners love to recycle. What went wrong for their respective teams can easily be deflected onto other people. The Red Sox had injuries and it looks like they have other issues too. It doesn't matter who you are, if you're being comapred to Loria you should come out as the better person. I never really understood why the same MLB retreads get hired over and over. It doesn't really happen in other sports. Like in the NFL, you have pretty much one shot to prove your worth or you are almost NEVER getting another opportunity any time soon. I still am confident that Bobby V is done in MLB. Who would hire Guillen though? Miami was his perfect landing spot and he wore out his welcome within a year. He is loud, a PR nightmare, and not a good manager. Did players even enjoy playing for him?
  12. I badly want a college arm that could move quickly. If Whitson's velocity is back with his known control he is the type that would move fast and what we should be looking for.
  13. It will be very interesting to see what the rotation looks like in 2014 to say the least. Will Garza be resigned? Will the #2 overall pick be a college arm? What will Haren be traded for? Will Theo go after a guy like Josh Johnson or Jon Lester? Possibly trade for a Buchholz type younger SP that has had ML success? If Theo moves Garza and Haren this year I will be surprised, but very excited. Best case scenario IMO is Garza/Haren both pitch lights out and are traded for arms that are near ML ready, Shark develops into at minimum a #3 SP. A college arm emerges for our #2 pick in June and moves quickly. I am confident in Jed/Theo filling out the rest of the roster from that point.
  14. Haren is 32 years old it seems his velocity has faded. Hopefully he bounces back and pitches well and can get moved for a nice piece at the deadline. I am a tad skeptical, but it was good to get another rough contract off the books.
  15. Can someone explain to me how this works? Gonzalez was claimed on waivers. Which means they can trade for him, but do the other three have to CLEAR waivers to be involved in the trade? And even as horrible of a contract Crawford has been the past two seasons - he's still a lottery ticket. His legs haven't gone anywhere and if he's healthy to start the next season he should be okay. I am not saying he will justify his contract, but I have a hard time seeing him being a complete albatross the rest of the way.
  16. The group that bought the Dodgers paid CASH for them. Be very afraid. And yes, their new FOX deal is getting ready to hit as well. This makes a lot of sense if the new FOX deal is coming. Damn. Has Kershaw gotten his new deal yet? I've got to imagine he's getting $200m or close to it.
  17. Are the Dodgers about to come into a bunch of money? I know they have new owners, but is a big TV deal coming or something? That is a TON of money to take on! I just can't even fathom this being realistic. A core of: Kemp, Gonzalez, Ethier, Hanley, Crawford is mind blowing to think about it from where they started the year.
  18. Yeah, even still he's more honest than most in this situation. Most use the supplement excuse. At least he admits it even if he denied it at first.
  19. 100 games without an error. Pretty impressive.
  20. Someone should tweet Goldstein and ask him if he'd rather have Machado or Vogelbach long-term. This is funny, because Vogelbach hit two homers tonight as well. :-o
  21. Can anyone give an example of a player like Vogelbach who was viewed as a DH coming through an NL teams farm system? Maybe LaPorta? I don't know how his defense was viewed.
  22. I am no Wilken fan and was glad to hear the news today, but Baez-Vogelbach as the first two picks is not bad at all. Talk about two guys who can really rake.
  23. Machado looks to have that super star panache about himself.
