  1. Ummm, can I help you? Yes. How are the Cubs doing? I'm watching my team, the Cardinals. Seriously. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/mlb/scoreboard/ Good win against the Reds.

  3. How's it going NSBB? What's new with the Cubs?
  4. The Cardinals have magically had an offense so far. Fat Miles(Stavinoha) was brought in for PH purposes, which is what he did.
  5. Yes, yes he did. He has the resemblance to Aaron Miles, earning the nick name Fat Miles. Luckily, Harang's pitching tomorrow, so the Cubs should get a win. Unfortunately the Cubs are playing tomorrow, so they will get a loss. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Here's the comparison of Fat Miles to Miles: Miles before taking steroids. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_sScrEgy7SVI/Rs3i-sFEQ7I/AAAAAAAAAW4/nI7AGmY9YV8/s400/Miles,+Aaron.jpg Miles after taking steroids. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/images/headshot_46786.jpg

  7. And the Pirates took their first step towards 84 losses.
  8. I think if Soriano, Soto hit along with Ramirez being healthy, this team will be good, but that is still a concern. What do you think is the biggest concern for the Cubs?
  9. Well, so far, Aarmis Ramirez has been the bright spot of the season.
  10. How was Lugo the Cardinals best bat? They have the same type of player in Lopez. Mather/Craig/Stavinoha can easily out hit Lugo.
  11. Realistically, I could see the Cubs finishing anywhere from 1-4 in the division. Most likely they'll finish 2nd or 3rd. I'm not buying into the Reds hype but if they are good, the Cubs would be 4th.
  12. It absolutely shouldn't matter, from a fan's perspective, of course. But now I can't help wonder about it, as well. Strange. :) I always assumed that Lugo gets paid by Boston for whatever amount they are picking up, and the new team pays anything they owe to the player separately? This would be easier, provided that direct deposit was properly set up for everyone. Since taxes can be quite complex due to the differing portions of time worked in various states each with their own tax rates and laws, I assume that payroll is somewhat modernized, but who knows? I now can't help wondering about this as well... I think Boston pays the $9 million and Baltimore pays him the league minimum? From a USA Today article: That's what I thought. If Lugo wasn't traded by the Cardinals, the Cardinals would be paying him the league minimum. Is it like the NFL when a Draft pick is from a team and through another? Like, $8.6 million are paid from the Red Sox through the Cardinals?
  13. I thought I would be the only one to pick Heyward. I was wrong.

  15. Think about it this way. Two Cardinals SS are the SS for the Orioles. Either the Cardinals are good at renting SS or they are good at dumping SS. A Cardinal backing up a Cardinal.
  16. This sounds dubious. Any Cardinals fans I've ran into in St. Louis were not rednecks. Alcoholics, maybe, but you have to go west until you find redneck Cardinals fans. And I highly doubt those people have the money to just jet off to Wrigley. They have to hold up signs calling people "morans." have you never been to south county? Bingo. Perhaps the rednecks don't travel north much, but they are in full display here. I don't even like to go to games here anymore because it's just full of dumbasses. TBBFIA my ass. In my experience, Cards fans care much more about the rivalry than we do. It goes hand-in-hand with the general inferiority complex they have about Chicago, similar to what KC has with St. Louis. I was driving through Soulard the other day (a neighborhood in St. Louis) and saw a "Cubs suck" sticker on a stop sign. Really? Come on. You can go to any Cards game here, regardless of the opponent, and you'll see vendors selling shirts with billy goats on them and various other "Cubs suck" shirts. I'm not saying it's not a rivalry for us too, cuz it is. But I guess because there is less going on here or because it's something that makes them feel good about themselves, they dwell on the Cubs an awful lot. But to be that wrapped up with a team that hasn't won [expletive] in forever, it's stupid. KC >>> Denver is also a huge rivalry. I went to a Broncos/Chiefs game at Arrowhead and the hatred/vitriol thrown at Denver fans is amazing. Even a father and mother sitting with two kids under 10 (all wearing Bronco gear) were cursed at. It was so bad they had to bail early in the 3rd quarter. Kansas City has a HUGE inferiority complex. mjohnson71, you saying that there are rednecks in St. Louis is not accurate. The counties, like Washington and Jefferson County have rednecks.
  17. Yeah, technically, Boston is still paying his salary.
  18. The Royals-Cards rivalry is, in a sense, like the White Sox-Cubs rivalry.

Not South County, Washington County along with Jefferson County.
  20. The first week of the season last year was on Sunday Night baseball. It was the game in Milwaukee where Reed Johnson robbed Prince Fielder of a grand slam in a game the Cubs would win. In 2008, on opening day on Monday, in Wrigley, vs Sheets.
  21. Group A: Albert Pujols. Group B: Carlos Pena, Adam Dunn. Group C: Swisher, Youkilis, Lee. Group D: Franklin Gutierez, Casey McGehee, Nick Markakis, Vladimir Guererro, Miguel Montero. WC: PM'ed.
  22. I'm a Cards fan too. The supposed Cards-Royals rivalry is because they are in the same state, it doesn't mean they are rivals. The fans in KC are the ones making a big deal out of it.
  23. Nothing that comes from St. Louis or Milwaukee is any good. :-)) What about the South Side of Chicago?
  24. Good point. It's just how you choose to view a rivalry against a team. More recently, the Cardinals have face the Mets in bigger games then the Cubs. Right, but that's seemingly different than the Cubs/Cardinals rivalry. The Cubs and Cards have such a long history and they play each other so often and they essentially share the same "home area" once you're outside the Chicago area. I'm not saying that the Mets and Cards playing each other is meaningless, because you'll still find plenty of Cubs fans that view games between the Cubs and Mets as a big deal, but it's simply not the same as what exists between the Cubs and the Cardinals and their fans. In fact, they way you're coming at this makes me think of how one-sided the non-rivalry between the Cubs and Brewers is because it seems like many Brewers fans are trying to prop it up into some kind of big deal while most Cubs fans don't look at it as much of anything unless both teams are in the playoff hunt. If some Cards fans are looking at the Mets as their "new rivals," well, it's definitely one-sided. I mean it like this. The Cubs-Cardinals rivalry is big and has tradition. It's a huge rivalry, I admit that, but look at the schedule now for 2010. The Cubs don't play in St. Louis until August. The Cubs and Cardinals don't play until May 28th, unlike when they usually play in late April/early May. Wait the schedule makers are in on this too? What does when the Cubs and Cardinals play have anything to do with the amount of rivalry these teams have? Also, do you think the Red Sox and Angels are bigger rivals than the Yankees and Red Sox? Because the Angels and Red Sox have been playing huge games a lot more recently than the Yankees, and also the Angels and Sox squared off in a 7 game series in the 80's too. Like you said, rivalries are in the eyes of the beholder in many ways, but a large majority of cardinals fans hate the cubs and a large majority of cubs fans hate the cardinals. Thats how it has been and how it will be. That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to have other rivals like the Mets. I mean hell the Cubs claim to have a rivalry with the Mets dating back to the 60's. Many older Cubs fans hate the Mets almost as much as the Cardinals, Ron Santo even more. But in general, the Cardinals and the Cubs are each other's biggest rivals. I think the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry is the biggest one in the NL but the Cubs, along with the Cardinals, have up and coming rivalries.
