  1. How did Hairston get the reputation as a solid gloveman now? Last year when we traded for him, everyone said he was below average with the glove. Now he makes a couple nice diving catches in centerfield, and the perception about his defense changes? Walker is a superior hitter to Hairston. Hairston might have a slight edge in defense. But apparently Hairston makes more mental mistakes, so that takes away his defensive edge. Starting anyone but Walker is foolish. I'm fine with a platoon, since Walker would still get most of the starts. But if Hairston/Neifi gets most of the starts, then the Cubs are asking to finish in 4th again.
  2. I really hate it when sportswriters use W-L records for relievers to prove/disprove how good they are.
  3. And there's no distinction between a win where you give up 23 earned runs and a win where you give up 0 earned runs. On-base-percentage and batting average doesn't distinguish between home runs and singles either. Are these stats mythical too?
  4. I don't remember these posts in NSBB. Poster: WHIP IS ALL THAT MATTERS I DON'T THINK ANY OTHER PITCHING METRICS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT AT ALL! CubbieRich: WHIP is dumb. 9 hits and 9 home runs gives you the same WHIP. Poster: OMG YOU'RE RIGHT, HOW HUMILIATING. Top Ten Starting Pitchers in WHIP in 2006 1. Pedro 2. Santana 3. Clemens 4. Petitte 5. Peavy 6. Carpenter 7. Randy Johnson 8. Willis 9. Smoltz 10. Carlos Weird how such a mythical stat will net you the top 10 pitchers in baseball.
  5. oooh, i feel smarter for having villanova winning it all now
  6. Haha. All this does is give us a crappier prospect, since Hendry will be a little more willing to give Walker away for peanuts.
  7. yes sir. i already made my losing bracket
  8. because he'll always be the cornerstone of the cubs
  9. thanks for the RECAP. sounds like you had a GOOD time.
  10. If Pierre reverts back to his .360 OBP form, then I don't care how he does it.
  11. that's the only reason i want castro out of power, so the cubs can score some sweet cubans
  12. Hahahahaha. Thank Kent that was a ground rule double
  13. Yeah, how dare they leave that game for a game that has the bases loaded, 0 outs, in the bottom of the 9th
  14. Catchers aren't all that important, he's good enough. I think he'll be catching while Javy DH's, or some games it will be the reverse.
  15. I don't see how that pic shows the case is closed.
  16. I love how Bonds is the only player it's acceptable to wish injury upon.
  17. Jeeze, I'm pretty sure I could destroy Lopez's pitches. They look like junk.
  18. Kruk says Soriano is gonna hit 40 homers!
