    Bonds

As long as they're empty... I can't stand it when people waste good beer. Thrown AT them? No. Thrown on the ground 5-10 feet from them to get their attention? I don't see a problem with it. If you can't throw ANYTHING on the field, then we shouldn't be able to throw visiting team's home runs back, either. Ummm, you really don't see a problem with someone throwing a beer bottle onto the field to get someone's attention? Wow. It's a horrible thing to do. Plus, I don't think John Q. Fan is talented enough where there's a difference between aiming at the player and 5-10 feet away from the player. Either throw is just as likely to hit him. And, at least at GABP, a fan is NOT allowed to throw a homerun ball back onto the field.

    Bonds

Bonds doesn't have the right to abuse illegal drugs and lie in front of a Grand Jury, either. So you'd be ok if fans started throwing beer bottles to Ryan Freel or Rafael Furcal?
  5. dunn was pumped to play first base and was disappointed when hatteberg replaced him so this is his way of protesting
  6. I think in your scenario, the Indians win the wild card and the Angels miss the playoffs since the Indians had a better record.
  7. Apparently this happened over a week ago and wasn't reported. http://cubs.scout.com/2/515489.html
  8. i'm really just picking random people here. i wonder if my non-strategy will pay off.
  9. that sounds like fun, i'd join. i'd suggest moving this to the general fantasy sports board though.

    My results

i didn't even really look at the team. uber im'd me and told me to comment on his fantasy team, so i made that comment out of spite.
  11. The Cubs being sold isn't as great of an idea I think the average Cub fan thinks it is. While it's slightly possible for the payroll to increase, I think it's a lot more likely to expect a payroll decrease and the same kind of inept management running the team.
  12. Who was sick of him back then? There are plenty of Cubs fans that get on Aramis now because they think he's lazy. It baffles me, but it makes it easier to understand how Pirate fans could've felt that way. I remember some posters, while they didn't outright say the trade was horrible, they didn't think it was all that significant. Aramis was an oft-injured, lazy player coming off a HORRIBLE year. While everyone agrees now it was a phenomenal trade, hindsight is 20/20, and the trade wasn't that amazing on the surface at the time.
  13. I'M NOT GONNA RISK LEE'S SHOULDER BY PUTTING HIM IN THE OUTFIELD
  14. :?: replace the word 'wins' with 'losses'.

this team sucks, prepare to finish last
  16. randy johnson has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to compete with shawn kemp
  17. No, no, no. Angel Pagan = Ty Cobb. No no no....Cobb stunk. He got those .420, .409, .401, .390, and .389 seasons playing in an era when the pitchers lobbed the ball underhand up there. Considering the fact that the average player in those days hit .250, Cobb stunk, but everyone else must have really stunk. Regardless, Pagan is a far superior talent to Cobb. He plays in the modern era where athletes are big and strong. Disregard the fact that Cobb himself was 6'2, 200 and his friend Honus Wagner was 6'0, 210....those guys certainly weren't athletes. Pagan easily takes the cake to Cobb. Probably better the Mays too. You see, Mays played 40 years after Cobb, that means he played in an era that was better than Cobb, which makes him better. Therefore, Pagan plays 40 years after Mays....so he must be better. i bet he could school chamberlain in basketball to boot
  18. besides dunn and mercker... 1. Sammy Sosa 2. Will Clark. Too young to appreciate the badness of 1989, and he was my idea of the perfect ballplayer. Plus, I was a first baseman. 3. Carlos Zambrano 4. Ryne Sandberg 5. Vance Law. For some reason when I was really young, I arbitrarily chose him as my favorite player.
  19. Fine. If Spring Training numbers are so important, why not give the bench spot to Scott McClain? The point is exactly the same. Spring Training stats shouldn't have any bearing on who to give a ML job to. Is that a fair representation of everyone else's opinion, according to you?
  20. Where did anyone say ST numbers are that important. Strawman alert. People have been using stats to suggest Pagan make the team, and in this thread people have been debating the usefulness of spring training stats. Just because no one said "ANGEL PAGAN'S SPRING TRAINING NUMBERS ARE VERY VERY IMPORTANT" doesn't make my comment a strawman argument. But people love to use the word strawman, so I guess it will continue to be carelessly thrown into debates.
  21. If Spring Training numbers are that important, why isn't Scott McClain locked up for 5 years?
