  1. Alright... it looks like USC has 60 scholarship players returning for 2011. With a scholarship limit of 75, how are they going to fit everyone in? Even if they can backcount and sign more than 15 in this class, they still cannot be over 75 total. Sponge Worthy (I think...), you have any ideas?
  2. How many are they losing from last year? You mean seniors? Not that many actually. We were due for a small recruiting class (around 18), but I don't see how we add another 10 guys in a couple weeks time. The unfortunate thing is Hoke will look like he's reviving Michigan because most of our team is back next year and we have a relatively easy schedule. I could see us winning 9-10 games. It's Hoke's second and third years that I'm worried about. This year's recruiting class won't help that worry. Are you worried that those will be down years, or that Hoke's just not going to do a good job at UM?
  3. One question I have is this: USC is limited to signing 15 players per the NCAA's punishment, but they currently have 24 guys committed. I read in last years offseason thread someone saying that backcounting would not be allowed, but that is apparently not the case. Anyone have the actual ruling on this? If they can backcount, I think they bring in 22 guys this year. That's not as significant a punishment as it first appeared.
  4. After reading through last year's, figured it was time for a current thread. Signing day is a few weeks away, and there will be much more going on than just coaching moves, so let's fire it up!
  5. Looks like Ronnie McKeefery is Tennessee's next S&C Coach. He recently left USF after 11 years to take a job as Human Performance Coordinator for the US Army Special Forces 160th something-or-other. And this is from his bio on the USF site:
  6. What's with your team chasing UT assistants? First the Cowboys have interest in Baggett and now LSU has interest in Chaney. I want some stability with this football team. Chaney's name came us as the result of someone throwing crap at a wall to see what would stick, I think. Miles wanted Crowton out because Crowton like more of a spread offense, while Miles wants someone to line it up and run it, Michigan style. If that's true, he's not looking to hire Jim Chaney.
  7. PayPal is EricSHoskins@aol.com, and is my preference. Address is 771 Abigale Ln, Birmingham AL 35210.
  8. Edited to reflect trades with Big City Sliders and Czar Nikita.
  9. Subtract Chisenhall and Kennedy, add Zimmerman.
  10. Vandy would definitely have a shot at getting to 10 wins in the MAC. I don't know about that. Vandy in the Sun Belt or Mac is just another mostly white academic school who plays against so/so competition every weekend. You don't have the selling point of "every year you will play Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and sometimes Alabama and LSU." I think that the conference actually does help, in terms of recruiting. I think it would hurt them enough that they're not a 10-ein team in those conferences either. As always, jmo.
  11. Every team in the whole damn division was ranked except for our suckass team I'm just annoyed by the SEC Superhonks that pretend Vanderbilt would be a 10-win team if they played in any other conference. SEC fans do not say that. Vandy fans might, and I agree, so long as the "other conference" is the SoCon. Vandy is not a 10-win team in any BCS conference, and no sane person thinks otherwise. Vandy's not a 10-win school in CUSA, the MAC, or any other division one conference, for that matter.
  12. 46 yarder, right? That's gotta be higher percentage than having your holder throw a 20 yard route to a backup TE.
  13. Like unsuccessfully faking a FG when 3 points basically ices the game?
  14. dew.... this Wilcox/Chuck Smith feud apparently has legs. A guy who covers some recruiting for Scout and maybe even looking to jump to 247 said tonight that not only does Wilcox dislike Smith, but that Thompson hates him too. Another guy I know who's fairly close to some current players says that none of the coaches think much of Smith ("great teacher of technique, horrible with teaching x's and o's to a unit...") and that he's likely gone. Scout guy says he's hearing that Sirmon is going to be hired full time to coach LB's, and that Thompson is moving to the DL.
  15. It was pretty hard not to see this coming. Alabama and Florida have BCS caliber talent, and Michigan's defense sucks. Hopefully Bucky and OSU can get it done. On a side note, I hope Illinois never plays in the Ticketcity Bowl. Yes, everyone saw the Bama/Sparty beatdown coming, but I don't think nearly as many people saw the Florida win coming. Florida has not been very good this year. Actually, they have been atrocious late, and with no offensive identity and the loss of their best defensive player, this game was a toss-up. I actually wanted to see Penn State and Sparty both win, but there is solace in the biggest of all B1G schills having to stew all offseason thinking about "SEC speed." and tennessee gets to stew all offseason thinking about choking away a game to north [expletive] carolina and just generally being terrible. I'm a Cubs fan. Do you really think I'm bothered by that collapse today?
  16. Well, there's your 0-fer.
  17. That's a nice catch.
  18. Me apparently. Everyone knows how much love I have for Michigan and Michigan State football. Hosak's a weird dude. Well, you are the resident "cry about everything SEC" guy. I don't even cheer for the SEC, I just like cheering against you.
  19. Horned Frog for the day, here.

  21. I'm so torn on what I've watched today. On the one hand, I don't really enjoy cheering for Alabama or Florida. On the other, I thoroughly enjoy the thought of a certain B1G honk on the south side of Chicago stomping around his house and berating his television set.
  22. Just had to post it, didn't you?
  23. Also read that McDaniels would be high on the list for the Chiefs to replace Weis. Don't know if that's true... just read it today.
  24. Mort is tweeting that Charlie Weis is soon to be named the OC at Florida. Why on earth would he do that?
  25. The last 30 seconds were not an exemplary display of officiating. On the personal foul with about 25 seconds remaining (which is the right call), they ruled it a catch. While replay angles show the ball was not 100% secure, it was still not enough evidence to overturn the call. No problem with that. BUT, when you watch the replay, the receivers helmet is the first thing to hit the ground, and it lands out of bounds. Then after ruling that it was a catch, the referee puts one second on the clock... no big deal, except that one second basically determined the game's ending. And, it's what happened with 1 second left that is the problem. UNC rushes the ball with about 13 seconds left, is tackled and has to rush to try to spike the ball. In the rush, they send out a bunch of linemen, and 5 of them realize they shouldn't be on the field and turn and try to run off. At the same time, the holder and kicker run out onto the field and get into place (and give UNC 12 men on the field- participating in the play), while the other 5 attempt to get off the field (which they do not manage to do.) UNC gets the ball snapped and spiked, and the refs announce that the game is over. Here are the problems... 1. They review the play to determine whether or not UNC got the ball spiked in time. Problem is, in football, the clock is not stopped when the ball hits the ground, but when the refs blow the play dead. No big deal, in my opinion here. They at least got that part right and corrected it. 2. They call 12 men on the field, which is not the technical penalty. The penalty is either illegal substitution (too many players in the huddle, etc) which is a 5 yarder and happens prior to the play (meaning it should have been called before the spike play got off, the 5 yards marked off and the clock started when the ref signaled ready for play.) Or the penalty is illegal participation, which is called after the play and is a 15 yarder. Clock restarts at the snap in that event. Problem is, they gave UNC the penalty post-play and only gave them 5 yards. Basically, it gave them a timeout. 3. Another flaw is that when an offense rushes players onto the field, the Referee is supposed to stand over the ball (while the clock is running) to allow the defense a chance to substitute players. With as many as 6 extra men running onto the field, at the very least, Tennessee should have been given a chance to substitute players, which would have ended the game. Oh well... what should happen does not always happen, and Tennessee lost an exhibition game. And I'm convinced that only Tennessee could lose a game in that manner.
