  1. Which is more humorous; the lack of production out of left field this year or the fact that we were able to trade 4 left fielders this year (mainly to contenders)?
  2. If you haven't already, you may want to look at these links. There doesn't appear to be any individual stats for that era though. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/library/afas/three-i_league.htm http://www.three-eye.com/ http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/submit/Kemp_Bill_Steinbacher1.stm http://lotus.pico.org/index.pl?lastnode_id=808&node_id=93927 the last one has a link for the Danville Veterans, but nothing is on the page. It says it's under constuction.
  3. Before you give them too much credit please remember that 3 of their 4 runs came on homeruns. I'm not talking about today's game. I'm talking about all season. The Cardinals can slug with anyone, but they can also get consecutive singles and doubles when they need to. The Cardinals have only scored 41 runs more then the Cubs this year. The Cubs have out hit them 932 hits to 895, 1545 to 1409 in total bases, and out slugged them .459 to .428. They have 68 more walks, but only .009 advantage in OBP. All it says is the Cubs have had both some bad luck and can stand to take a few more walks. I think you're confusing this team with the 2004 Cards.
  4. Or you should have posted this in rants or the National Enquirer. :D
  5. J.B.? Are you dissin the godfather of soul?
  6. I hope he gets traded or benched because 9mil for next year is wayyy tooo much for a pitcher who is a shell of his former self. Hendry should've never gave an option for a 3rd year. Two was enough. Just a few points: -You bumped this because Maddux had to bad starts in a row. In his last 8 starts though, he’s won 5 of 8 games. Yes he was bad in those 3 losses, but pretty decent in the other 5. Over the same period, the Cubs are 10-15 in the games he hasn’t started; so Greg is hardly the problem. -We also don’t know if the 9million would be available. There was never any details given out when he was signed defining what the “special money” was. It’s very possible all or part of his salary will be deducted from the budget should he not be a Cub in 2006. -Benching him really isn’t an option at this point. It’s not ethical and Hendry has shown he is above board in all his business dealings. If they were to do it now, it would likely lead to a grievance being filed and Greg could win a good part of the money back. -With a softer schedule after the break, it is unlikely the Cubs will become sellers before the end of the month (though not impossible). That makes trading him unlikely.
  7. It’s always easy to second guess. Maybe you can post the details in rants. I know things haven’t gone as well as expected, but come on now. Yes the acquisitions of Grudz/Karros, Barrett, Lee, Walker, Clement, Maddux, Hawkins, Remlinger, Rusch, Dempster, etc were all the wrong moves. Yes a few didn’t work out, but they made sense at the time. After 2002 our expectations were rising because of the infusion of studs from the farm system. Well they didn’t develop. Do you believe we would be a better team with Cruz, Brownlie, and Guzman in the rotation; Choi at first; Hill at second, Kelton at third, Dubois in left full time, and a few other prospects that have fallen out of favor? Some may be good players in the future, but they have not been very successful over the last few years. The team has been winning despite this. That is a credit to Hendry, not a detriment.
  8. Would you happen to have Jeromy's stats on how he does after the all-star break in his career? Burnitz 2002-2004, pre and post ASB, courtesy of my databa...... ESPN.com: 2002 2003 2004 Pre Post Pre Post Pre Post Avg .206 .228 .274 .204 .287 .278 OBP .305 .321 .344 .252 .356 .357 SLG .326 .421 .581 .391 .551 .570 OPS .631 .742 .925 .643 .907 .927 2003 year was a rough one for Burnitz, physically and mentally. He broke his hand in April of that year, and later was traded to the Dodgers, with whom he did horribly (as evidenced by his post-ASB numbers that year). His 2004 numbers are obviously Coors Field inflated. For his career (thanks to my si.com database) he is .856 ops to .820 ops the second half.
  9. Couldn’t we just release Remlinger and add another bench player? Telemaco is nothing special. If we are upgrading the bullpen, let’s upgrade with a better pitcher. I would rather take my chances with Welly or Leicester. Telemaco may accept assignment. He left after spring training and was contemplating retiring, and he is seen as a coach in the future. He may not want to cut ties with the organization he has been with since ’99 at this stage in his career. If he does go through waivers, he’ll only cost the claiming team a waiver fee and the prorated 525k he’ll make in the majors, so it’s likely he would be gone before we had a chance to claim him. Is he really worth giving up a prospect for? If you’re expecting anything of value for Remmy today, you are bound to be disappointed. Either you dump him now for nothing, or run him out there in July hoping he’ll have a few good games to increase his trade value.
  10. Ok. Dubois .214 as a pinch hitter in his career in 16 plate appearances. Hairston Jr. .000 in 6. Granted not a whole lot of chances in their careers, but nothing says they can effectively pinch hit. Playing every day is different then being a good bench player. Macias .250 and Perez .306 in a combined over 200 at bats. Can we sticky this in the Fantasy Baseball section? Or in Rants as just more whining?
  11. Make room for me. I thought there was zero chance. Just finding a taker for Gonzo shocks me. He picked up Nomar for slightly more (Harris) then it would have cost to acquire Cabrera. Well done Mr. Hendry. =D>
  12. Assuming he’s healthy, Aaron is probably off limits, but Ruth is possible. If he hits 45 this year and 40 next year, he will have 624 and be number 5 on the all-time list. If he plays for 3 more years after that averaging 30 homers a year, that would put him at 714. But there is no guarantee he won’t drop of even more. He would need a Barry-like epiphany in his later years. 600 is a sure thing, 700 is possible, anything above that would be amazing. Also, if he can average 90-100 rbi’s over the next 5 years he’s pushing 1,900 to 2,000 which would have him pushing the top 5 in career rbi’s.
  13. The Cubs have made great strides as an organization with the development of the farm system, the promotion of Jim Hendry as GM, and the hiring of Dusty Baker. We have a great chance at being competitive for the next 3 to 5 years. We have made wise and economical moves to this point (other then the Maddux splurge), but haven’t really targeted top of the line free agents. Are the Tribsters really committed to winning, or are they just willing to continue to spend a percentage of the revenues (albeit increasing)?
  14. Other then the obvious (like Orlando Cabrera), are there really any viable alternatives to upgrade at shortstop come the trading deadline this year?
  15. Hi Bruce, Alex Gonzalez is probably the least popular regular to fans this year. What does the organization think of him at this point? Thank you. And thanks Tim. Thanks Mark. Thanks NSBB.
