  1. I dont know if incentive bonuses even exist in NBA deals, or if they did would they count toward the tax. I kinda doubt it. But either way, poor JR if it does push them into the lux tax. Time to start pumping some of that sweet comcast money the blackhawks and cubs make you back onto the hardwood.
  2. And how. Ugly. The under hit by a point and a half. When a 176.5 under hits in OT, and it was 88-87 with 2 minutes left in OT, its an ugly ugly finish.
  3. The Bulls swept the season series 3-0 last year. The Bulls also had HCA. Did you consider the Bulls as favorites in the ECF? Playoffs are a different beast, they are played differently, and they are officiated differently.
  4. There is a difference between tanking and playing the regular season differently than the playoffs. For example, Dallas was absuing the Spurs 2 weeks ago and Pop put the second unit in the game at the end of the 3rd. They started the fourth and got San Antonio back into the game. Pop left them in for the entire fourth quarter and OT period. He wasnt tanking the game but he was coaching it differently than in the playoffs. Giving his second unit a chance to play in a big spot, sending a message to Duncan/Parker/RJ; whatever it was he wouldnt do it in a playoff series. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201201290DAL.html
  5. I was gonna say this same thing. The Bulls bring it every night and the Heat do not. Conversely, every team brings it when they play the Heat. The Heat are built for the playoffs when team drop to a 7-8 man rotation and play there guys for 45 minutes in tight games. In the playoffs, its very unliekly that the minions of stern will allow LBJ or Wade to into early foul trouble, however their attacking style can tack fouls on help d bigs all game. Then you have Bosh, national media humiliation aside, possibly the most skilled big the game.
  6. The point is we need to get the the HCA, be healthy, and click in that series to have a decent shot to win. And we have Rip this year, and if he has something left thats gonna mean a lot for us. His game against the Heat a couple weeks ago was maybe the worst games ive ever seen an NBA player have, but he is still a guy who boasts one of the official where will amazing happen commercials from when he buried a huge jumper in ray allens face a little husky on husky crime. Hes a guy who can potentially win a game for you offensively and that makes a big difference compared to bogans who played 25 minutes in the OT game last year.
  7. Sacto lookin dope in the black on blacks. Cousins is legit.
  8. I thought that was pretty obvious. It's hard to get past the wheelchair.
  9. Remember two years ago when the lakers and celtics were the two deepest teams in the league? these second units are unwatchable.
  10. I have a feeling he's gonna be a controversial pick.
  11. Also. So I guess it's been decided. Monta will never be an all-star.
  12. I wonder how history will remember Paul pierce career. 10 time all star possibly the highest scoring celtic of all time. NBA finals MVP. He has the credentials to be remembered as a great.
  13. We better hope his tsay during Untouchables was pleasent, because the team that can get the support of Andy Garcia will get Cespedes, that simple.
  14. As a fan I enjoy this type of thing for whatever reason. Its kinda fun. A scrub like Perkins has about as much business getting into with lebron as deshawn stephenson and brendan heywood did. Perkins is being a joke, Blake gave you a facial, just deal with it man. It was cool when sheed called out lebron because he was a great player. Perkins is 6 fouls and 6 rebounds for OKC. Basically, hes Nenad Kristic. Lebron is right, hes an easy target and way too many people hate him for no reason.
  15. So ive been reading a bit more from this and found the following: "Lin = Jason Kidd 2.0 + Nash's dribbling and finishing. The great thing is that Lin already shoots better now than Kidd did early in his career, and Kidd kept improving, as Lin has done already since last year." I hope they do realize that if this is indeed what they believe they have (i.e. Kidd + Nash's handles), then they have what is possibly the greatest NBA basketball player of all time. Im sorry for Lin, but I just cant wait for this to fail.
  16. In sports, that's about the worst argument to support an argument. You have the burden of establishing a corrollary between regular season minutes played and something else. To my knowledge such a thing does not exist. The only team i can think of that i actually felt was not going full blast in the regular season, kinda limped into the post season, and then turned it on was the 2010 celtics. Two things of importance there: (i) Their core was old, (ii) Thibs was on that staff.
  17. Using my own eye test, deng and ronnie are about as good as any wing defenders in the league. We have to do a better job on Bosh though. he was 42/70 from floor and 32/35 at the line. We have to do a better job on him.
  18. From a hoops standpoint i think we are almost as good as them. Their guys know how to get the whistle and ours dont.
  19. They got 50 games in 3 months in 1999. Im going by memory on who the stars of the time were:: age / name / mpg / games 20 Kobe 37.9 50 22 Duncan 39.3 50 26 Shaq 34.8 (i assume foul trouble) 49 25 C Webb 40.5 42 22 Garnett 37.9 47 23 AI 41.5 48 25 Kidd 42.1 50 26 G Hill 37.0 50 27 Penny 38.9 50 Its pretty simple, what some people are asking of thibs is to do something never done before.
  20. Tribune has something up echoing the discussion here about thibs playing guys when they are coming off injuries or have nagging but not quite injuries. Aparently wailing about starting Keith Bogans has morphed into this. In this city, people will never be happy with anything. If the medical staff says a guy is good to go, then he is good to go and thibs should use him. We are a young team trying to win a championship, we will NEVER beat the Heat in a 7 gamer without HCA. They have to win every game. Without Rose any team in the NBA can beat us on their home floor. Remember when Memphis waxed us on MLK day? I dont think ive ever seen a team cautiously rest a young superstar when he was cleared to play. One other thing, based on the fact he choked out VDN in front of all of Chicagos media people, we know Paxson is sensitive about overusing injured players, and he does not seem to be putting a stop to this; thus im satisfied.
  21. I agree, but the voters dont. The last truly great defender to win one KG almost 10 years ago. You could argue Kobe, but his MVP was a lifetime achievment award. The MVP usually follows a Pts + RBs+ Assists +Team Wins formula.
  22. Speaking of Chris Paul: A little MVP talk. Lebron is having a once in a generation season and in my opinion should be leading the race by a wide margin. For the sake of discussion lets say a portion of the voting panel hates him enough to buy into the myths surrounding his game to drop him off their ballots (this is actually quite possible). I feel like they have been waiting for an opportunity to get KD his MVP. Id like to see him get one but i think if you look at the LAC roster from last year compared to this year (and Vinny's pathetic coaching), and the fact that they won 30 games last year and this year will probably get a top 4 seed in the west; Paul's impact is ridiculous and he should be leading the non-Lebron MVP race. Their GM should get exec of the year for pulling off that deal too. Pop should get coach of the year, every year.
  23. Clarify this. Given the oppotunity, you'd take Paul over Rose? No, id put them on the floor together, as that would be unstoppable. I figured in the knicks fans' alternate reality they had the option of both Lin and Paul, but given paul's contract needs and the fact they would have to trade for him, they were "blessed to just have Lin, the cap room, and Shumpert/Fields; and not just Paul". Perhaps i misunderstood their thread. Between the two, Id take Rose (to start a franchise with) because he is younger and Paul has suffered a knee injury. If it were a one of season, it would depend on the composition of the rest of the team. I would have never dreamed that Rose could even be argued over CP3 after just three years in the league. Its pretty remarkable that you can successfully make that argument. I also think there are areas that Rose may improve before his quickness starts to decline, whereas CP3 is probably at his summit right now.
  24. Both undervalued guys. Nash was thought of as more of a backup, in reality he was a star. Lin was thought of as a D-Leaguer, in reality he's a serviceable pro. Both played very very well in Mike D's system. Yea I can agree with this. Lin is on his way to proving he belongs in the NBA. If what you are saying is "Dantoni runs everything through his point, the guy who gets the first pass to shoots 20 seconds left ont he shot clock and they get 8-10 extra possessions resulting in steriod era statistics for the point guard" then yes, playing in Mike D's system will stuff a guy like Nash or Felton, or even maybe Lin's stats. Not to take anything away from Nash, but obviously without a system like that he doesnt win two MVPs (and he arguably should have gotten that 3rd). Historically point guards dont MVPs, to the point where if Nash and Rose play against each other next year, (im pretty sure) it will be the first time two MVP point guards play in the same game ever.
  25. I wish i didnt see that. I got 4 posts down and somebody said that "if melo plays like durant in this system we are the best team in the league". Glad you dont have Chris Paul? I did not realize anybody could support that opinion. The bulls have the reigning MVP at point guard and I am not glad we dont have chris paul. (I will completely ignore the fact that at no point, ever, were the knicks anywhere close to obtaining chris paul.)
