  1. King, you would make a terrible casino developer.
  2. When is this deal up 2022? If that’s the case do everything you can do that doesn’t violate your contract until the deal is up. Then in 2022 completely box the rooftops out. If they have the patience to lose 100 games for 8 years, surely their video-board can wait until it can be legally built. In the interim maximize as much revenue through the sources at your disposal. They are wasting time on things that need to be done with or without satisfactory resolution to the RTO issue. As the contract with the RTOs nears maturity, the Cubs leverage increases.
  3. I do think that Edwin Jackson on an Edwin Jackson-type contract is of no value to the Cubs.
  4. 2015: Homer Bailey - 29 Jon Lester - 31 Justin Masterson - 30 Max Scherzer - 30 So...CJ Edwards? Andrew Cashner? I read that the Cubs presentation focused on making Tanaka the face of the franchise. They really knew what this guy wanted.
  5. Wow I've never seen .9 seconds defended worse.
  6. I caught some of this. I dont know who Wittenmyer is but he cant be as bad as boers and bernstein. Bernstein is an irritating prick. I remember when he used to make fun of hockey for the players eastern european names and when he was just kinda trying to learn about basketball. Hes about 3 years late on everything.
  7. http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/100145/seahawks-lead-in-ped-bans-under-carroll That was in May 2013, there had been 5 suspensions at that point (2010-2013 Pete Carroll's entire tenure) and that didn't count Sherman getting off on the Ryan Braun Memorial "they didn't properly collect/handle the sample" defense. Since then, Thurmond and Browner have both been suspended (Browner for a year, but in fairness only because of a technicality due to missing a drug test while not even playing in the NFL, it was only his second positive test, iirc which would normally be a 4 game suspension at worst) Yeah, they chalk up many of those those suspensions to Adderall, but I don't think I'm the only one who finds it curious that, golly, all these NFL players need to take Adderall and have a prescription for it and just forget to get it approved by the NFL even though so many people have been suspended for that reason. It just bothers me that guys like Melky Cabrera get strung up and SFG keep him out of the playoffs voluntarily. Seattle had at least two guys, including sherman, playing D yesterday that have tested positive. These guys are in a position to potentially cause long-lasting harm to guys they play against. Not to single out Seattle but in general there is not much stigma to being caught with PEDs in the NFL. Sammy Sosa isnt even allowed on Wrigley Field's grounds and Sherman is like a cult hero.
  8. I would have liked it if Crabtree was a really famous, marquee player. Other than being awesome at texas tech, and kinda being a bust of a pick I dont know anything about him (other than the recent claims of him being the greatest catcher ever). I loved when TO did the Ray Lewis dance that was awesome but calling out a decent, relatively anonymous possession wide reciever was pretty dumb. Hasnt everybody on this seahawks defense, including RS, gotten caught using banned performance substances? I guess who cares though because its not threatening to dillute the historical signicance of Harmon Killebrew's career home run total.
  9. I havent seen much Federer so far but he must have his game he spanked Tsonga. I am hopefull he can bury Murray as well. Wawrinka Djokovic should be good. Dimitrov is +850 vs Nadal and I think hes playing well enough to make that line interesting.
  10. Dores anybody know what mrs tanaka is? It seems like she may or may not have been in a 8 person pop group that has been on a hiatus since 2006.
  11. That is incorrect. Comcast Sports Net Chicago is not one of the networks dropping huge money on TV deals; they're essentially a step or two up above WGN. Lets say the margins on this broadcasting business are 20% (i dont know this im just using a figure) than the true value is 540k a game not 450k because they making money on both sides of the transaction. Add in whatever is made on bulls games the hawks games and the sox games and you have large ancillary revenue streams that are not generally available to sports teams. The Cards are not making money off Blues games. Is the comcast money segregated from the baseball business? We dont know. We dont know how the team finances are actually run. We dont know if the Fox money will be put on the field either. We also dont know if in the next CBA these issues, with now even larger disparities in the resources of all the teams, are not going to be addressed. You are excited because you think the fox deal affords the cubs a competitive advantage and I am saying that the competitive advantage has always been there. They are already thought to be among the most profitable teams in the MLB, if not the most profitable.

  13. I am no different than you all. We are all the same you and I. I am happy that resources are there to field a successful team I just feel like they have always been there, and now that a $ amount is publicly attached to it you are all so excited.
  14. We have never seen the comcast numbers. Fangraphs has it at 450K/game. Thats what comcast pays the cubs to air the games. Not what comcast generates in profit. I obviously dont know exactly what any of that is. But I would suggest that we are all smart enough to make the logical leap that if these broadcasters are willing to pay sports teams these huge contracts, than these broadcasters of live sports are hugely profitable. Comcast sports net chicago is one such broadcaster, owned (it seems on wikipedia) 20% by Ricketts.
  15. Im sure they are not. But im also sure they are very substantial sums. More than enough, when combined with all the other sums, to sign not only one but many tanakas.
  16. We have never seen the comcast numbers.
  17. Again they already own 25% of comcast. They are already getting the margin on margin benefit of tv money from bulls, hawks, themselves on a platform that they OWN. That is an advantage that few team have. This has been the case for the past 5 years (i think the worst 5 year stretch in franchise history but i havent looked to see for sure). So next year they get whats coming to them with the big tv money that everybody seems to be getting. I am saying, there is zero reason for us to wait for something like this to be a competitive team. They have advantages already. They havent been using them. All i hear are excuses always and some more can-kicking with the tv deal.
  18. double post.
  19. What is exciting about this? The fact that the cubs will get market revenue for their tv rights shouldn't surprise or excite. They got lucky buying the team in '09 that the tv deals are falling into live sport promoters laps. They have owned 25% of Comcast chicago snce then they ALREADY own a substantial portion of a large station that airs games for tham and 3 other hugely popular sports franchises. A monkey would go out and get the best deal available in the market. Lets not act like this tv deal is some white knight riding in or that we have some john d rockefeller business genius running the team. I dont care what the tv deal is. Give me a [expletive] baseball team right now. Not a tv deal. First its video board and jumbotron revenue then its a hotel then its a party deck a public bond an entertainment tax tripped covenant rosemont naples IFA money leveraged partnership overslotting and now tv deal. They have 5 years now and 3 for theo. They have had a competitive advantage for that entire time. It doesnt start with a tv deal or a videotron or an amusement park in lakeview or sky harbor. I have never heard of a franchise with so many inherent advantages complain so much about all these challenges basically characteristic of owning any team and not exploiting the very obvious advantages to owning this particular team. We are in a division in which every other team is in the bottom 10 by metro-area (3 of the bottom 5). This has always been the case. Just because we have always been run by idiots who cant exploit that doesnt mean that we still arent run by idiots. So the tv market swung wildly in ricketts' direction and hes is not too stupid to not get out of the way. Great hes liekly gonna make a fortune on this team but we all knew that already. Are they gonna take the tv money and give us all our money back for the seasons of [expletive] and burned tickets when they punted or are they gonna spend 50 more million on the payroll now like they should have been doing anyway all along.
  20. Do we know yet when they will start selling booze?
  21. Snell looked pretty good. Noah looked great.
  22. Big baby just hit a 3 to probably take this to triple OT and started screaming "[expletive] you [expletive] all ya'll" repeatedly while gesturing to the home crowd. Very bizarre.
  23. I dont know what PFT Commentator is. Is this real or a parody?
  24. I want Theo and Ricketts to stop talking about a world series. Its not an all or nothing porposition especially if you are talking about tv ratings. These past few years are gonna make the selling of the TV rights that much more difficult. The buyers are gonna come to a valuation based on the expected ratings. I assume they will look at historical ratings in that process.
