From a distance I thought he did a pretty good job and I'm not sure any other hire would've netted the same results.

I don't recall that being something that was expressed here. There were concerns, yes, especially after the disaster the football season was with a similar coaching hire. I think most, myself included, were hopefully optimistic considering the combination of his recruiting successes and the consistent uptick in wins at Ohio. Nobody was jumping up and down excited, but I don't recall many ready to jump off a bridge about it. Someone called it a disaster and someone else wanted Frank Martin. Both were silly overreactions.
