  1. When you notice Jason Heyward's wRC+ is over 100:

  4. There was a blip last night on an otherwise solid couple weeks of baseball. Fear not; the SuperCubs will soon reveal themselves. It starts tonight with Jose Quintana somehow spinning a gem. Since we're heading to New York, I figured I'd add a twist to the themed-thread template. There will be a different theme each game I'm hosting (which might reach into the dozens). But each thread will have something to do with the city of the team we are facing -- movies or television shows located or set in New York; if we are still going in a couple weeks: their terrible pizza, how fat and racist they are, etc. Considering who is one of the Mets' announcers, I think there is only one logical choice to kick things off: A lot of people have been lamenting the former Cubs and former Cubs' prospects that we have given away. "I can't believe we gave up Gleyber." "I wish we still had Candelario." "What the hell did you trade Jorge Soler for?" There's still a wealth of talent at our disposal, though. Like Kris Bryant. Kris is on pace for yet another 7-win season. But he's in a bad slump right now, going 6-for-his-last-37. He went 0-4 and grounded out with the tying run in scoring position to end the game last night. There to pick him up has been Jason Heyward, who has reached base 7 times in the last 2 games after taking my advice to back up from the plate. Also on a tear is Anthony Rizzo, who is coming into New York ready to plow over the competition. The fraudulent Brewers have opened up a 4.5 game lead in the Central. We know that somehow won't last for long because all of their wins have been: The SuperCubs, though: Remember:
  5. I believe in Statcast stuff a lot more than some others. And I think he has been incredibly fortunate this year. His BABIP is really high and he hasn't hit the ball hard. But he was like that in the first half last year, too, and then he started hitting the ball harder in the second half and his actual numbers matched up a lot better. I hope he can get back to that -- a few more dingers and some balls in the gaps. He does some things well. A good amount of line drives, not many pop ups, a lot of infield hits. But he also hits a lot of lazy fly balls for a guy that isn't trying to get the ball in the air. Hopefully he can keep making minor improvements with his plate discipline and start putting better pitches in play. It might help with some exit velocity and launch angle issues. But the main thing has been the defensive improvements we've seen. Keep this up and he can be a fine player that is just putting the ball in play a lot and not doing much else.
  6. Joe is definitely going to kill Cishek now.
  7. Not out of the woods yet, but I was prepared for very bad news. So this sounds good.
  8. Rizzo's like Michael Chiklis in The Shield. He has to go to hospital after hospital to cover up for the piles of injured children he's left in cities across the country, and he's in too deep.
  9. He moved back in the box again. Keep him there and we’re looking at a .780 OPS. Somehow.
  10. Um, Heyward moved back in the box again. This is the answer.
  11. Dude, he's hit 6 dongs (or, as us smarty types call them, HR) this month. I guess I take it back. Looks like he had a dong binge early in the month but hadn't hit one for awhile before yesterday. I figured his slugging was largely doubles-dependent, but it appears not. Still, one can never have enough dongs.
  12. Still needs more dong. I think he is somehow back to normal, though.
  13. Monty is just the perfect swing man. Can work as a reliever for 2 months and then get you 6 innings like it’s nothing out of the blue. I hope we can convince him it’s the role he was born to fill.
