  1. He's going to lead the league in walks next year!
  2. Good thing we used our 6-hitter to bunt with no outs to get those two base runners over for that all-important run in the second inning.
  3. Agreed. I will say that Keith Law has a much tougher time in admitting when he was wrong than others, though. He still thought that Paul Goldschmidt was a platoon bat in, like, May of last year. He usually sticks to his original thoughts on players until the evidence is overwhelmingly against those thoughts. But, it's not like he is saying flat-out, "This player won't make it." He is just listing their flaws and what might be their undoing.
  4. Yeah, he was way higher on Soler than anyone else at mid-season, too. I think it's probably just his general tone. Every team's fans think Keith Law hates their prospects.
  5. Really rough day for Javy. But, then again, it was for everyone else, too.
  6. Keep those weak ground outs coming, Turner!
  7. Yep. That money is a sunk cost. Give me Turner in his spot.
  8. The problem with Bryant is certainly his contact issues. But, that doesn't mean he isn't safe. That power will play at any level. Guys just don't have that kind of power. He is a safe bet to hit a lot of homers and take a fair amount of walks. There is plenty of value in doing just that, even if his contact issues remain a huge problem. Russell is safe in the idea that he is a decent bet to end up near a facsimile of what we think he is. Bryant is a poor bet to reach his ceiling because of his contact issues, but his ceiling is like, multi-year MVP. There is a much larger range of what Bryant could be, but that doesn't mean that he isn't safe. His floor is still pretty high, I think.
  9. I can't wait until the day he is no longer on our roster.
  10. what is full value? what is full value in a need situation? it's incredibly fluid. Well, you have advocated trading him for a guy that is at best equal to guys we could just sign as free agents. Guys whose contracts would last two years longer or so, and would cost about $45-50 million more for those extra two years. So I would say selling him off for $50 million in cash and only cash is definitely undervaluing him, if the only reason you are trading him is because of prospects.
  11. The problem is: It doesn't matter what anyone's floor is or what prospects are coming up. You just don't trade a guy on a very reasonable contract for something that is less than his full value because of... reasons.
  12. I don't get what the average-to-good eye versus extremely aggressive approach dichotomy is? He swings at pretty much everything, but he has a fairly normal balance between the times he swings at strikes and the times he swings at balls. Basically, he swings at both balls and strikes at an extremely high rate. so how does that equate to a good eye? If he swings at balls at an extremely high rate he does not have a good eye. Basically, he can differentiate between a ball and a strike. But, his approach is so poor that he just swings at everything, anyway.

  14. I was going to say even before the homer that Javy doesn't look as anxious up there tonight.
  15. Oh yeah! Time to run roughshod over the NL.
  16. And... that's how he is going to get out of some jams throughout his career.
  17. The offspeed stuff is nice too. I'm going to have to discontinue my "minor-league overexuberance discount" on expectations. Alcantara and Hendricks both look exactly as advertised. Both really smooth transitions. Alcantara is making more contact and swinging at less pitches than he did in the minors -- just slightly, but still. That's inexplicable to me. I was very concerned about that with him. Hendricks, I always had faith in -- velocity be damned. The numbers just screamed out to me that he could get it done, considering he was amazing at every stop, including the high minors. But, it's good to see him be exactly as advertised.
