  1. You can complain about it if you want. But it really doesn't mean much to me. It's a small sample size. And it's fluky. And he's horsefeathering great. So I wouldn't expect it to be a thing going forward. Really, I see it as a sign that, going forward, things shouldn't be as bad as they've been, since I would expect his high leverage numbers to come in line with his overall numbers. And that will make the Cubs better.
  2. Schwarber with a walk and a line drive single to center.
  3. Impossible to make up 3.5 games with 80 left. I can't remember the last time this team has won 3 in a row. This team clearly isn't very good and nothing they've done has shown they can go on a run. Yeah, this team clearly isn't going on a run. I've admitted as much. As long as Lackey and Butler are in the rotation, that's just not going to happen. This team has been playing Javy and Almora against righties. They've heavily featured Candelario and Zagunis. This team is not good. Add Hendricks. Add another starter. Then you have what could be a good rotation. Hopefully get a non-terrible Schwarber back. Hope Zobrist is healthy. Hope Heyward can provide a little help with his bat. That team could go on a run.
  4. People have been trying to poke holes in Kris Bryant's game his whole career. Can't play third. Strikes out too much. Can't mash lefties. Can't hit on the road. Can't hit in day games. Can't hit high velocity. Can't hit curves. Can't go the other way. Swings through too many pitches in the zone. Can't hit inside pitches. Can't hit outside pitches. He's generally been nothing but awesome and has disproved basically every critique about him. And he's made a lot of doubters -- ahem, Tony Massarotti -- look foolish. He's not a guy you need to worry about.
  5. And...? He's hitting .285/.396/.526 over that time. It's almost as if he had a guy hitting .150 batting in front of him for a lot of that time period. Yeah, his wOBA with RISP this year is 300. He's had plenty of opportunities. He's been abysmal. And I should care about that smaller sample of PA than the rest of his career PA why? You're digging too deep to find horsefeathers to worry about. He's a horsefeathering MVP.

  7. Yep. BABIP'd and all sequenced together. Pen did good. Offense with 11 hits, 6 walks, and 5 runs. Tough pill to swallow.
  8. It's just not going to happen this year. Impossible to make up 3.5 games with 80 left.
  9. And we have what Butler going against Milwaukee this week? We could be more games back than we expected at the ASB. hopefully I'm wrong Monty is pitching against them. And their pitcher has an ERA over 5.
  10. Despite how old he looks in the outfield, Zobrist still plays a solid second base.
  11. It's too bad we aren't counting AAA homers.
  12. Fingers crossed for Stroman.
  13. Schwarber is 0-2 with a bases loaded walk. He flew out to center and grounded out to short.
  14. I'm all for only send Wade. And it might be beneficial to just chill at home and re-group. But Bryant not making the All-Star Game will look really stupid by the end of the year.
  15. I'm very glad Zobrist is back, too, even though he did nothing today and has struggled all year. I don't have many concerns with him hitting if he's healthy. And he's a huge part of this lineup. And keeping Javy and Almora out of the lineup against righties as much as possible is very important.
  16. Same here. And I've never been high on him. And then that Statcast data came out that showed he was astonishingly fast. I can buy him as a decent defender up the middle, and not as the plodding corner outfielder I envisioned. He's a beacon in a sea of horsefeathers.
  17. This guy's pretty good. David was definitely right to insert him in the sig.
  18. Like Raisin said earlier, he's far too inconsistent for me to trust, but his command has been a lot better lately. I just don't know what to expect from him. He's too hard to get a read on. He could die at any moment and I wouldn't be surprised. But he could also give us a strong second-half and I wouldn't be shocked, either.
  19. Huge start from Jake. And he maintained his velocity pretty well throughout the game. 93.5 mph on avg. sinker in 1st inning. 92.6 mph in 7th. Only 2 homers allowed in his last 6 starts. He's getting a ton of ground balls lately. And his BABIP has dropped a ton. There's stuff trending in the right direction. My only real question is how well his arm holds up. How much will the fatigue issues affect him? He can definitely come out an pitch well. But, how many of those blowups like his last start will we see?
