  1. [tweet] [/tweet] Now go get us that bat, Theo.
  2. Any way to hide this forum for five years?

  4. Only Xenu can save our season now.
  5. That guy's right, though. By the time KB is a free agent, Josh Hader might be walking fewer than 8 per 9 innings. And Corey Ray might be out of A-ball and hitting over .215.
  6. Interesting idea. I did some Fangraphs filtering(SP, 60+ IP, 10+% curveballs, 3.5+ ERA or FIP to remove already good players) and also trimmed some teams that won't be selling pitchers and here's the names that jump out to me: Quintana Verlander Alex Cobb Martin Perez Bundy The problem with the Montgomery trade is he wasn't starting in MLB at the time of the deal, so filtering in a way that you don't have to comb through every person to get a few dozen IP is difficult. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=4&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=9,d
  7. He's closer to #3 overall in MLB than "a #3."
  8. The White Sox don't even line up well with us, as far as any other pieces go. Theo certainly isn't interested in paying the price for another closer, like Robertson, who is their most available piece. They have some old corner infielders that are decent that we'd have no interest in. Maybe they'd trade Kahnle or Swarzak, but I don't know if we'd want to buy them at whatever they'd cost. The rest of their team sucks. So instead Theo bought the one piece they have that actually interests him. And he included some 30-year-old A-ball guys hitting .150 as the third and fourth pieces. The "other piece" is what he'll get from someone else for the prospects he retained by not dumpster diving through the White Sox roster.
  9. It's too bad we are going to miss out on the thread four years from now when the Cubs were going to trade Eloy for one year of Edwin Diaz.
  10. If there's one thing Theo did for sure, it was make NSBB more active today. I keep trying to read this thread and can't get it to load.
  11. If Quinatana is a #3 on a good team, then Jon Lester did a hell of a job willing us to a World Series championship as a #3.
  12. I'm a big fan of this. I like Quintana quite a bit. And I think he's a great fit. Not sure I'd even want Archer more than him, honestly. He scares the horsefeathers out of me with all of those sliders. I certainly think he's better. I'm just not sure I'm a huge fan of giving up what it would cost to get him, and then relying on him to stay healthy. Regardless, I think Quintana is worth it. Trade all the prospects. Forever. Keep trading them. Go get me another starter, too.
  13. Lol This AL dominance is ridiculous. I know the game is meaningless but I want to see the NL start winning more of these. We even gave them the legal minimum of Cubs' players to play against.
  14. Good thing this isn't for home-field in the World Series anymore, because Wade's Nationals teammates would be awfully upset with him in a few months.
  15. They cut that nonsense out huh? edit: holy horsefeathers i had no idea, nice Right after we were able to sneak Kyle Schwarber into a Game 7 lineup and have him get on base for what would be the go-ahead run in extra innings.
  16. People paid good money to come and see him tonight.
  17. Guys that rely on elite home run suppression scare me a lot, too. Just to throw Matt Cain out there as an example, when that goes, things can get ugly quickly. I'd much prefer a high strikeout guy, who, when he loses a little from what makes him great, goes from a 10 K/9 guy to a 9 K/9 guy. HR/FB seems a little different to me. It's so unstable, because it's a small amount of events each season. And huge spikes in it seem a lot more probable. That being said, I do think it is a skill. And I do think it is one Fulmer possesses. He's very Hendricks-like with his batted ball profile. High GB%. And when the ball is hit in the air, it is at a higher launch angle than other ground ball pitchers, and it is at a low exit velocity. And he gets a lot of pop ups. I think he is a legit soft contact guy. I do think his HR rate this year is a bit of an anomaly. But I also think he should be able to suppress homers and BABIP going forward. I think he'll have a lower FIP than xFIP and a lower ERA than FIP. And I think he can continue doing so for a while. He does possess an a elite ability to limit walks, too. And his strikeout rate isn't quite in Ivan Nova territory. Going back to Matt Cain, he was able to maintain his elite home run suppression for quite a while, and I think Fulmer is better than him. Plus, Fulmer is throwing 96. He's not teetering on the edge at 92, like Cain was. Buying in on Fulmer at 24 seems like a safe bet that you can get him at his best for a while. And, like TT said, he's been doing this in the AL. Give him a bump by moving to the NL, and give him a better defense and better pitch framing, and he could lose some of that hard contact suppression and still be really good.
  18. Good stuff. I honestly forgot he was hitting that well at any point. He should not have been trying to play through it, that's for sure. Yeah, that was incredibly stupid.
  19. Though, I suppose it could be that he is starting to break down. And him getting injured is the sign of him aging. And he'll keep getting injured and never be healthy again. But, I think if the wrist feels good, he can be his normal self. Hopefully that happens sometime this year.
  20. Zobrist injured his wrist on a swing on May 26. Zobrist in 158 PA through May 25: .266/.354/.468 Zobrist in 81 PA since then: .113/.213/.169 Zobrist average exit velocity through May 25: 87.3 mph Zobrist average exit velocity since then: 84.5 mph It's definitely the wrist injury. His plate discipline numbers are the same as they've always been. He's actually graded out very well defensively at second. I don't think it's a case of aging or being worn out. I don't see many signs of him getting old... other than him hitting like a weakling since the wrist injury. Now, I could see the wrist bothering him all year. And that would suuuck. If so, he's going to continue to struggle. And we really need that to not happen.
  21. Zack Short had a huge game for Myrtle beach. 3/3 with 3 walks, a double, a homer and a steal. .275/.453/.475 in 53 PA since being promoted.
  22. I'm not worried about Zobrist much at all. As long he's healthy, I think he'll come around.
  23. I wonder if Paredes is one of those HBP freaks. That's 11 for him already.
  24. Good to see. I'd be interested to hear where his velocity was at.
