  1. If that's the plan, fine by me. I won't hold my breathe.
  2. Guzman down? Of course. :x So I guess, barring injury, Miller gets at least one more start after today regardless of performance. Guzman will have to stay down 10 days if there aren't any injuries. <-------------not happy
  3. I like it. You are expected to come up and perform. We are not going to treat you with kid gloves. It probably depends on the player, but with everything I have read about Pie I like taking this route. but he's not a leadoff hitter. period.
  4. Nothing higher than 6th in the lineup please. I'd put the chances of him leading off at about 99%. Under the Dusty rule of CF=Leadoff, perhaps. But I'm not sure Lou works that way, nor does he want to put a young guy in that situation. I'm not so sure. I hope you're right. If Theriot plays, my guess it he'll lead off, but if he doesn't, I wouldn't be shocked to see Pie there.
  5. he's not making THAT much money for his production, really. He's making enough money so that teams will have to think twice about just adding him to their payroll. I'm not sure any teams other than the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox and Mets are in a position to simply add $5 million to their payroll without cutting costs elsewhere. On the other hand, if some team suffers an injury in a corner outfield spot, they may be more inclined to make room if they feel desperate. Especially if the Cubs eat a few million.
  6. I'm really curious to see what lineup Lou will put out there with Soriano out, Blanco likely starting, and potentially no Ramirez. Wait, did I say curious? I meant terrified...
  7. I'd have to agree. Even if he can come back in a couple days and still swing, a huge part of his game is still his legs, and hammies tend to linger. Unless this heals immediately, I'd call up Pie tomorrow. I think you guys have the right idea. I'm usually not too concerned about defense but Floyd, Jones, Murton could be pretty awful and it limits their options. Unless Soriano's injury is far less serious than thought, put him on the DL and get Pie in there. This carries the added bonus of getting Pie's feet wet and getting a glimpse of what he can do if you want to move Jones mid-season.
  8. Okay, so now what? I'm assuming (at least for the time being) we are looking at a Floyd, Jones, Murton OF. Soooooo......maybe we do something like this (if Ramirez is back): Theriot SS (not likely, I know) Murton RF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Floyd LF Barrett C Jones CF DeRosa 2B I don't think Lou is about to bench Izturis for Theriot, but I'm not sure how else he'd do his lineup. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be shocked to see Izturis moved up to the top of the lineup. I hope not. ETA: Blanco will probably start today so the lineup could look really strange. Or just put DeRosa where Barrett is above and have Henry hit 8th.
  9. Lou's response was a refreshing change, I guess, but I think it's a much bigger loss than you're making it out to be. Theriot isn't likely to maintain what he's done so far and there is still a question mark concerning Ramirez' wrist. Soriano may not be setting the world on fire right now, but at least there was a strong possibility there that he was going to snap out of it. If he goes on the DL, it will certainly hurt the offense. Not to mention any possible lingering problems Soriano may have from the injury when he does return. It's very early, but the Cubs' are hitting a fairly important stretch of games right now and can't really afford to nose dive, even if it's just temporary.
  10. I agree with that and wanting to move him has nothing to do with his poor start (for me). He's just not a lead-off hitter. If Lou is looking for ways to shake up his offense, as he says, then this is an option. On the flip side, the Cubs don't really have anybody else who is a far better option at leadoff unless Theriot keeps it up and/or Murton starts playing every day.
  11. Honestly, the order isn't as much a concern to me as is just getting the best 8 players out there. However, I would probably go like this for now: Theriot SS Murton/Floyd LF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Soriano CF Jones RF Barrett C DeRosa 2B
  12. Doesn't DeRosa bat very well against LHP? If so it doesn't make sense to have Theriot at 2B against them then. The solution is simple. get rid of Izturis (completely out of here if possible) and make Theriot our starting SS with Cedeno backing him up. He said at the very least have Theriot at 2B with DeRosa in RF-allowing both of them to play against a LHP, and taking Jacque out of the lineup against a LHP, which I think everybody wants also. The good thing is that this happened the first time around, although flipped (DeRosa at 2nd, Theriot in RF). Right. I don't have a problem with that either, but it just seems to make more sense to have DeRosa in RF as he would seem to be better there (just based purely on experience).
  13. At the very least, Theriot should start at 2B against every LHP with DeRosa in RF. He could also work in at SS and 3B to give Izturis and Ramirez breaks IF he doesn't take over at SS full time, which he might. Better yet, if Lou is really serious about "shaking things up" why not go all out: Theriot SS Murton/Floyd LF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Soriano CF Jones RF Barrett C DeRosa 2B
  14. Can someone explain to me the argument that Floyd needs to be in there while Ramirez is out? I don't get it. Why should that matter? Is it just for the SLG? I don't have a problem with Floyd getting a significant number of starts when he's hitting well, but I don't get how this has anything to do with Ramirez, as a few people have said. Murton needs to be getting some time somewhere. Either RF or LF. And please, for the love of God, get Jones out of the 3-hole.
  15. I don't have a problem with Floyd getting a big chunk of time when he's hitting well. But Murton should be getting some time in RF if that's the case. I don't see why the three of them can't be in some sort of "rotation" of sorts. Restricting Murton to only starting against LHP is a mistake. He's better than that.
  16. I know. I'm just frustrated. This blows. Feels like 2006.
  17. He can't be unfortunately-the club doesn't trust Murton or Floyd in RF, and Theriot or DeRosa are already playing positions that nobody can come in for them. Jones cannot really be replaced other than an emergency. At this point I'd throw Murton or Floyd into RF.
  18. I assume a lefty is coming in to face Jones. Too bad Murton won't be used to PH.
  19. You're not allowed to complain about this yet. I'm told that's the rule.
  20. LR on the pre-game (radio) saying Prior's injury seems the same as the last year or so. He mentioned the "laxticity" (is that the word?) in the shoulder and specifically mentioned the collision with Giles, which surprised me a little. He basically said he didn't really know anything right now though, which isn't surprising.
  21. Reds: Phillips Hamilton Dunn Griffey Encarnacion Hatteberg Valentin Castro Harang
  22. I was thinking about that as well. Maybe this is an oppurtunity for Lou to mix things up. I might go: Theriot Murton Soriano Lee Jones Barrett Cedeno Izturis I'm sure this won't happen, but it might be worth a shot.
  23. gotta love seeing the word "chronic" in there.
