Unless its injury, players as good and young as Kris Bryant don't instantly become medicore to bad, Cub or no Cub. This is an overaction, I looked at Bryant' stats - he's really, really good - without question he played hurt this season. It was evident today, look at his follow through on his swing. This doesn't totally go against your point because he never was as good as Kris Bryant, but Jason Heyward did earn a hefty contract at Bryant's age and instantly became medicore to bad.
