1. To be fair, he was a pumpkin several other times during his career before he signed. 2. I don't think he will, simply because the Cubs sucked bad during his tenure and so he just sort of blended in. Meanwhile, he never said or did anything wrong. But who knows? He was worth 12 fWAR over the four years prior to his signing. He had been inconsistent, but his descent into total and complete suckitude was not a likely development. And apparently he was very popular in the clubhouse, though that doesn't help the W/L record much. It'll be nice to have a useful player in that roster spot, but I have no ill will for EJax. These are the times that numbers can really confuse me. Because in all the years I watched Jackson pitch, he was good at times, but like you said, inconsistent. And teams always got on base against him. And he just.........yeah, I don't know. He was just an OK pitcher but nothing exciting. But maybe the deeper numbers prove I'm wrong.
