  1. That makes me irrationally happy. Looked like another one of those innings.
  2. Do whatever it takes to get at least one more.
  3. I know he sucks but Hamilton scares me because it's a triple whenever he gets on.
  4. 1. To be fair, he was a pumpkin several other times during his career before he signed. 2. I don't think he will, simply because the Cubs sucked bad during his tenure and so he just sort of blended in. Meanwhile, he never said or did anything wrong. But who knows? He was worth 12 fWAR over the four years prior to his signing. He had been inconsistent, but his descent into total and complete suckitude was not a likely development. And apparently he was very popular in the clubhouse, though that doesn't help the W/L record much. It'll be nice to have a useful player in that roster spot, but I have no ill will for EJax. These are the times that numbers can really confuse me. Because in all the years I watched Jackson pitch, he was good at times, but like you said, inconsistent. And teams always got on base against him. And he just.........yeah, I don't know. He was just an OK pitcher but nothing exciting. But maybe the deeper numbers prove I'm wrong.

  6. Yes, except I believe we save like the $300,000 that somebody else signs him for.
  7. Are you trying to say that if posters on this board weren't so negative the CUBS would produce better ??? Mein Gott im Himmell !!! I've been thinking about this, and there is a tremendous chance I'm wrong. But are posters like Bukie, who seem calm and get on people for overreacting, are they watching a lot of the games or seeing mostly box scores or an inning here or there? I ask, because as a baseball loser who watches so many of the games from start to finish, I have found myself being a lot more negative about the offense because I'm watching it time and time again fail to execute, strike out and not hit for any power. And that's not my imagination, as the Cubs entered the day 23rd in all of baseball in runs scored and 25th in slugging. Yet, in the times that I haven't been able to watch and just check my phone, I tend to be a lot more relaxed even when we win 2-1 because all I see is the score and no failures.
  8. Any thoughts as to why Soler only has four homers this season (two of which came in one game)?
  9. I've become that one Indians fan in Major League. Not able to even enjoy wins because I'm too focused on the negative. Shame on me.
  10. And now let's worry about winning instead. Since, you know, we've only again scored two runs.
  11. The Braves can have a hit for all I care. Just as long as the Cubs get the win.
  12. Sweet. So we might make history! Again, the point is just I think our offensive problems will continue for the most part the rest of the season. I'm sure they will have a stretch of nice games but I don't think it will be close to sustained.
  13. Of course if he keeps hitting plans can quickly change.
  14. I think you're going to be disappointed when he doesn't start tomorrow, either. why do you say that? are they facing a lefty tomorrow (i still think he should start even if they aren't)? All indications yesterday was that he would catch two or three days at most a week and never Lester or Arrieta.
  15. really going out on a limb there i bet you stand by 2 runs per game though lol I can for sure see an average of 3.
  16. At least for me, it's not about being relaxed. We are closing in on August. What they are is what they are. I'm still highly optimistic about the future of this franchise and love the things that have taken shape for the long-term health of the organization. I believe Bryant, Rizzo, Soler, Schwarber and Russell are going to make one hell of a batting order. But not this year. They just can't score runs. I appreciate those who are optimistic and believe things have to turn around. I'm just not at that point anymore, and I so very much hope I'm wrong. It does not matter who we play. It does not. If you are only going to score two or fewer runs per game, you can't enjoy any sort of sustained stretch of success. And I have stopped believing that the offense is going to heat up at this point. How can you possibly think this with a lineup full of 22 and 23 year olds as the key players? what the hell does any of that even mean? "just not at that point anymore?" And i'm going to go ahead and state confidently that we will not score 2 or fewer runs per game the rest of the season. Comments like that are EXACTLY what i'm talking about and referring to as needing to relax. WTF? Sorry David for freaking out and stating they were only going to score two or fewer runs each game for the rest of the season. I apologize if taken so literally. I was just attempting to illustrate that the offense has not shown to be very good and that I don't see it suddenly not sucking for long stretches of time. Again, would like to point out I do believe they will score more than two runs in a game again this season.

How can you possibly think this with a lineup full of 22 and 23 year olds as the key players? They are what they are for this season. For as much as someone might hope to argue that they are suddenly going to start going off, I can point to the old cliche that they might also be burned out by the time late September has come. Again, this is not any sort of thought on what I think about their long-term future. But sorry, I'm not buying that this team's offense is going to do much changing in the next 60 days.

  20. The time has long passed that we can focus on just one person. No, it all starts with almost every single batter that comes to the plate. As The Logan documented, this has been a total team breakdown of the very worst kind.
  21. Damn it. Where are all the runs going to come from?
  22. This game is a great example of why it's pointless for anyone to try to look ahead and get all excited about a bunch of below .500 teams that the Cubs have on the schedule. They can't score against anyone.
