I don't think there are any comparisons. If I remember what I studied about that season, the Cubs had been good from the beginning of the season into the first couple days of September, then went into a long losing streak. If the Cubs don't win the division, I don't think people are going to think of this as some great collapse, but rather a team that severely underachieved. But people probably have more knowledge of this and perhaps can tell me I'm way off.

The sad thing is many of us starting talking crap with three innings to go, giving the Cubs a chance to come back and make a few like me* look like fools. But nope. Damn you, Cubs. *more than usual

It doesn't look quite as ridiculous as the vaunted posters on here thought. I don't know what to tell you. I've had numerous discussions with you about this. The Brewers do suck. They are a .500ish team that played above their heads for half a season. The Cubs played well below their potential for half a season. We trailed by 5.5 games at the break. When it got to that point, I conceded that it was going to be a tight race. How could it not be, if we had to make up 5.5 games with only a few months left? Things haven't gone well for us. And we let the Brewers and the Cardinals hang around for far too long, despite them being inferior opponents. Not much we can do to change that now. The Cubs have been in first place for like 50 days. They easily had enough time if the second half Brewers are total garbage to pull away. Instead, they are two games ahead.

As pointed out on Tuesday, the pitchers they were going to face for five straight days were pretty talented.

Yeah, Duker is looking rough on this one right now. Because with 19 games left, we are two games ahead of them. Which means either they aren't the garbage team he has stressed all year that they are, or we aren't quite as #wearegood as he thinks. That said, let's hope the Cubs win the division and his ultimate prediction will still shine through. It's looking rougher for the guy who has been saying since May that the Brewers were going to win the division, considering they still trail the Cubs. It doesn't look quite as ridiculous as the vaunted posters on here thought.
