  1. how was daytonas game 1? i didnt get to go tonight :(
  2. went to the daytona game, Samson hit another home run  and then straight after, Vitters knocked a shot out of left field in about 1.3 seconds flat. an absolute missile. muschko was solid, throwing strikes and mcdaniel looked like he was throwing hard, although walked 3. solid night for daytonas offence, campana 3/5 and robbed of a stolen base vitters 2/4 and went to the right side!!! almost drew a walk on a 3-2 count, but grounded out the second gonzalez with a double and a triple Jackson day tomorow!! :)
  3. saw him pitch tonight, after the game i asked how fast, 90-93, which is apparently harder than he was in the rotation. it seems as though his breaking ball struggles to find the strike zone sometimes, fastball seemed as though it is a little elevated... but on the flipsyde, breaking ball seemed half decent, while the fastball seemed to have a little movement. leverton pitched well tonight, but in the 6th imploded, followed by pina and his electric fastball with no command :clapping:
  4. I really like him because he has a very good sinker and because he turned 20 two months ago, which is rather young for the Florida State League. He's done an excellent job of keeping the ball in the park (5 HR in 100 IP) and, from the sound of it, his secondary stuff could actually be halfway decent down the road. He still needs to work on his secondary stuff and on his control (39 BBs in 100 IP is kinda meh), plus his attitude might be a concern, but I think he has a good future. i agree, he does walk a few too many, but his fastball does move so maybe its harder to control? not much pitching experience myself but he mostly misses low in the strike zone.. i saw 3 of those HR's at home in daytona (missed one of them) and two of them came in the same game about 5 pitches apart from eachother. 2.2 GO/AO is mighty fine and his K rating isnt that bad, as it is much more efficient to pitch to contact especially with a low pitch count. also do not foget, alot of these Base Hits he has given up, are groundball base hits through the holes in the infield. In reference to Guyer, i very much like the kids plate approach, very relaxed and has a very high line drive rate. crushes baseballs, just not overdoing it by trying to hit home runs, Plus speed and solid defence, he is in my top 15.
  5. heres some photos i have found of the cubs http://www.photoshelter.com/c/mikejanesphotography/gallery/Daytona-Cubs-2009/G00005tdRyE2co90/?_bqH=eJxLygiu8AkpM_VzD8pyLDDz9S9PK_cvLTUsd863MjW2MjWwsnKP93SxdTcAAtOSlKBKV6PkfEsDtQCQaABINNW8rDSt2CIwNC1Szd0z3t3Rx8c1KBKbJgA.6SDd&_bqO=54&P_ID=P0000e7vufs8QUfY
  6. well done to the cubs AGAIN http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=OF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=451088
  7. doesnt walk many people, 4 seam fastball, 88-91 slider and change nothing overpowering just comes in and gets the job done, is an older guy with more experience, from what ive heard works extremely hard
  8. i saw this listed on bleed cubbie blue, was it you outshined one?? As things stand now... This system has taken a substantial step forward compared to last season. Right now, we’re probably hovering around average/slightly below average compared to other farm systems. It seems like the Cubs have four guys who could crack the Top 100 depending on how they continue to develop. Last year’s draft was a huge boon to the system and the international signings have continued to contribute. The key to the continuing growth of the system is going to come from this year’s draft. There are some intriguing names, but the Cubs need to make a few more signings before I consider this draft a success. Getting Jackson, LeMahieu, and Kirk signed was great, but adding guys like Raley, Burruel, Sheppard, and Whaley would really, really help. My list hasn’t changed much since last doing this. So, without further adieu… 1) 3B Josh Vitters – Duh. He’s had some struggles in Daytona, but give the guy time before jumping down his throat. [Rant]The problem with the internet and minor league baseball is that everyone wants production now now now now now!!! Guys take time to develop. They have a learning curve. Vitters being streaky as a 20 year old doesn’t make him the next C-Patt, Harvey, Dopirak, etc. It means he’s still developing and growing. Be patient and look to the long run, rather than latch onto the latest flavor of the month. If he’s the next big flop, we sure as heck won’t find out this year and most likely won’t find out next year, either.[/end rant] A- 2) P Jay Jackson – There’s a lot to like with him and he has a lot to offer. Not much to say about him. B+/A- 3) SS Starlin Castro – The errors are a bit worrying, but everything else is quite promising. I’ve heard elsewhere that his problems have come on routine plays, rather than on hard ones, which is a promising sign. Having someone Castro’s age do what he’s doing in Daytona is quite excellent. B+ 4) P Andrew Cashner: His stock has been on the rise lately with some excellent outings in Tennessee. He was drafted for his fastball-slider combo, but apparently he’s had some issues with the slider this season and has been relying on a changeup that’s working out pretty well for him. The biggest problem with him in my mind is whether he can handle a rotation workload. Next season will answer that question, but a strong finish to this season would be welcome. B+/B I’d put a decent-sized gap here after these four. There’s still talent from here on out, but a lot of it is either unpolished, inconsistent, or needs to work on some particularly worrying flaw. 5) P Jeff Samardzija – Nothing more to say about him. B/B- 6) P Chris Carpenter – The injury history and walks scare me, but he’s got middle of the rotation stuff and has had very good results. I’m hoping his scratch tonight was nothing. B/B- 7) SS Hak-Ju Lee – I’m loving his production down in Boise. He’s got excellent upside and has shown very good speed and defense thus far. Still, he has a long way to go and his lack of power might be an issue down the line. B- I’d put another gap here. After the Top 7, there’s a glut of guys who could be ranked in pretty much any order depending on what you value that are all pretty much in the C+ range. The rest of my list goes… 8) OF Brett Jackson – Unless he suffers a complete meltdown or proceeds to destroy the Northwest League for the rest of the season, I’m not moving him from here. We’ll see how he looks when he faces better pitching. The lack of power is curious, though. C+ 9) P Ryan Searle – Been inconsistent with Daytona, but he has fantastic sink and has been getting results despite his youth. His attitude is worrisome, but if he can develop, yikes. C+ 10) IF Ryan Flaherty – If you look past his batting average, he’s been putting up good numbers in Peoria. I maintain he’s run into some bad luck and is due for a turnaround, especially considering he was drafted primarily for his bat. C+ Other names I’d consider in the C+ range: 2B Tony Thomas (went completely into the toilet after a hot streak, but has great tools) IF Junior Lake (fantastic abilities across the board, but needs to produce) OF Brandon Guyer (hard times in Tennessee, good times in Daytona) OF Tyler Colvin (injuries have really hurt him this season) OF Kyler Burke (iffy on him, but he’s doing reasonably well in Peoria and age-appropriate) P Chris Archer (producing, but needs better control and needs to get bumped to Daytona) P Dan McDaniel (inconsistent, but excellent repertoire) P Casey Coleman (limited upside, good production and intangibles) P Jeff Beliveau (loving everything but the walks) P Dae-Eun Rhee (Holding back on ranking him until he’s healthy)
  9. this is outrageous.. how dumb are the cubs sometimes http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=&sid=t451&t=p_pbp&pid=460590
  10. why are they wasting Jericho Jones by having him in daytona? wouldnt you think that he should have a chance to be somewhere where he can play everyday? look at his numbers last year when he was getting regular at bats http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=543372
  11. Searle only 3 innings tonight, 4 errors from daytona in the first 3 innings 3.0 innings 3 h 3R 1 ER 2BB 1k ERA - 3.94 8/0 GO/FO im am very disappointed in the abysmal Daytona offense of late tony campana with another stolen base, that puts him upto 57. does anyone know how many the leader in baseball has? samson showed some bat skills tonight with his 2nd game after returning from AA. they really must miss castro at SS and Chirinos, Harrison and vitters bat.
  12. It's a serious concern w/his hand injury, I don't know if it's falling as right now, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be the #1 prospect in the system. But the injuries are a concern for someone that young. it is his other hand, not the same one as last year
  13. they moved him up there because tennesee is vying for a playoff spot, ive heard on the grapevine that chirinos, is around to "look after him" as such although i dont think that it would hurt their playoff chances having him there either. this is not too aggressive, he can handle it, he will be in the bigs in the very near future
  14. from what ive seen out of daytona this year 1 Cashner 2 Castro 3 Vitters 4 Jackson 5 Lee 6 Carpenter 7 B Jackson 8 Gaub 9 Searle 10 LeMahieu i could be way off about vitters, but its my opinion, he cant field awfully good, and his bat is inconsistent. also im including Gaub and Searle am i the only one that thinks this? maybe also parker, coleman and flaherty are gonna get up there fairly high too
  15. Castro and Chirinos to AA Reed and Samson to Daytona
  16. anybody seen Welington Castillo's game streak?? he's finally figuring it out http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=&sid=t553&t=p_pbp&pid=456078
  17. went to the daytona game tonight, the offense is REALLY lacking of late. Searle 5 Ip 8 hits (5 Ground ball hits) 4 runs, 8-1 GO/AO and 6k's. Searle, was pitching fairly well IMO.. they laid down about 6 bunts on him, 3 of which became base hits, a fly ball that turned into a 2 rbi double in the first inning, because they were playing him pull, and he hit it to dead center i have seen somewhere in scouting reports that searles breaking pitch isnt that great, but he had ALOT of swings as misses with it, nobody touched it. opitz with his bat back into form also makes me happy, and castro and gonzalez with 2/5 2/4 nights respectivly.. i dont care how old chirinos is, but he continues to impress me, with his plate discipline, ability to block the ball and his OPS of .970. campana is rediclously fast. im not going to lie, one of the fastest ive seen come through talking to the players after the game, Simokaitis was released. nobody was sure on his replacement, i am assuming maybe..... Huseby?
  18. This makes no sense. Unless it's for off the field stuff. which it was confirmed tonight, it is
  19. its my opinion that maybe castro and carpenter may see some AA time this year? does anyone else agree? carpenter is dominating A+ hitting lefties are hitting .100 against him
  20. Another interesting player that has left the cubs system as is doing very well.. Darin downs Currently Leading the FSL with ERA and 2:1 GOAO and 100k/20bb?? http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=P&sid=l123&t=p_pbp&pid=445153 what is it when players leave the cubs?
  21. julio castillo, lively young chap ive heard!
  22. i thought you all might find this photo of julio castillo interesting
