  1. Speaking of Freddy Bynum, has Hendry let him go, yet? XXfingerscrossedXX
  2. Seconded. Thirded! :D
  3. Yes it is. (looks towards anyone who made jokes, snide remarks and/or snarky comments about Daryll Kile dying) The only thing stranger I've seen like this is Payne Stewart's death. Now that was a weird one. Yes, Stewart's accident was weird.
  4. Wow, what a shock! I heard about the crash on my way to school, but no names were mentioned. Then, when I just went on the internet, the aol main page announced that a Yankee pitcher was on board. I was shocked. Then found out it was Cory Lidle. Prayers and condolensces to his family, and everyone else who was affected.
  5. Actually, I remember around the trade deadline that the Marlins would consider moving Willis and Cabrera this offseason in an effort to trim payroll (!!!!!) since both were due pay raises and will be free agents in the near future. I'm unsure what to think about acquiring either Cabrera or Crawford at this point. The Devil Rays don't seem to have eased off from their strangely high demands for certain players since they brought in their new GM. They're going to try and screw other teams out of young starting pitching in exchange for him; that's a foregone conclusion. They'll want a comparable package to Nolasco-Mitre-Pinto, which I would not be willing to give up for Crawford. I have no faith whatsoever in this organization to instill plate discipline in hitters. Crawford had a Pierre-like .43 IsoD last season; I don't think that would improve if he came here. We saw what happened with Pierre this season; guys who have an OBP heavily based on AVG will be prone to really ugly slumps since everything is based on making good contact with the ball and having the defense screw up. Thankfully, unlike Pierre, Crawford has reasonable power for a CF'er and might not be thrust into the leadoff spot. With Cabrera, the guy is one of the best young hitters of this generation. Yes, he'll drive us insane in the OF, but his tremendous combination of power and patience would be a boon to this lineup. I don't think there are that many guys who could single-handedly turn around this lineup...however, I think Cabrera is one of those guys. He's already a masher and will only get better with time. I'd rather overpay for Cabrera than overpay for Crawford. Good point. I agree that our organization seems to be incapable of helping hitters improve. Cabrera would probably be a better choice.
  6. Apples and Oranges in terms of the type of player. Crawford may not have as high as slugging% as Carbera, but is Carbera gonna swipe 50+ bases and play gold glove defense. I'd still take Cabera first, but Crawford isn't that far off. I'll take the .998 OPS OF rather than the .840 OF who steals bases by a huge margin - and to think Crawford isn't that far off, you must not be able to pass a urine test. Disgruntled Cubs Fan = Dusty Baker stan - "love that speed dude" Its unfortunate you can't debate your point without personal insults. How old are you? It's unfortunate that you think Carl Crawford is a comparable player to Miguel Cabrera. Why is it hard to think that Carl Crawford, at 25, can't raise his OBP? It would seem that he's more obtainable than Cabrera, since the Marlins haven't even mentioned that he's available, so getting him is a pipe dream. You'd probably have to give up much more for him than for Crawford, and with Crawford's speed and defense, getting his OBP higher would make him more valuable.
  7. Is it possible for someone to post a list of the 2006 free agents? Maybe as a sticky? Thanks! :D
  8. I prefer Brenly or Girardi to manage...the CUBS!!
  9. Exactly! Drew and Crawford in the lineup would be good. Any way to get Abreu and bat him first, since his HR power has diminished?
  10. Thanks, Vance. Very well said! =D>
  11. huh?!? Yeah, right, class act!
  12. You don't know that, either. His OBP has steadily gone up since he's been on the D'Rays: .290 in 2002; .309 in 2003; .331 in '04 and '05; and .346 this year. It hasn't gone up dramatically, I guess, but with the exception of '04 and '05, it has gone up. IMO, that's a good trend. Thanks. I thought so too, but I'm new at paying attention to stats. I wish Hendry would learn! :x
  14. If the Cubs were sold, wouldn't the new ownership want to start fresh; totally new? Why would you want the same people in charge who were responsible for the failure in the first place? BTW, we may not be hoping for the Donald as the new owner--if there was to be a new owner. He's apparently been running his casinos into the ground financially, and 2 billion dollars in debt, according to MSN.com's money section. Mark Cuban, anyone?
  15. I gotta agree with you. It's hard to get my hopes up even after hearing this myself. I heard Murph say that MacPhail (that's F-A-I-L) would be gone in one or two weeks, I think he said. Yet, rumors are just that, until they're proven. He also said that Baker and the coaching staff would be gone--or at least most of the coaching staff--but that Hendry would be back. I think if Hendry doesn't get fired, he'd be on a very short leash.
  16. YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR! Yeah, with all the pitchers that went down this year, it seems like the coaching AND training staff need to go.
  17. In a depressing sort of way.
  18. I just tried it, and I got a pretty good first stanza, but I completely sucked after that. Watching Whose Line Is It Anyway, it seems like it should be easy. But it's not.
  19. If the Stros catch the Cards, I'll be rootin' for those pesky Reds! I hate the Astros!
  20. I'll take Crawford over Pie anyday. With Crawford, you know what you're getting. Pie's not established yet. Yikes! I think that's already been said!
  21. Say what? I'm posting from an alternate reality where it doesn't suck to be a cubs fan and bad memories are softened by occasional successes. Or possibly denial. And in that alternate reality Ron is hopefully in the Hall of Fame. :D And, for some reason, Mike Schmidt isn't! :D
  22. My hatred for the Cardinals is surpassed only by the early 90s Knicks teams. The Astros, while lame, have never really bugged me as much. I'm just the opposite. For whatever reason, I've have despised the Astros far more than I've disliked either the Cards or Mets. I would love to see Roger retire without another WS, Fat Boy Berkman go home crying, and the rest of the mediocre "talent" that are the Houston Astros go home without anything. And I have cousins in San Antonio who are Astros fans. Hmmm...I wonder if there's a connection... :-k :D
  23. Thanks for the information. I'm happy he's doing better, and is coming back to ESPN. Thanks, again!
  24. i agree with you..i will tell you why.... cause the Cubs are STUPID. Hendry is very puzzling. I guess he's evaluating the situation!
