I think their talk of having Appel and Aiken #1 on their boards was BS. I think they were just wanting to keep other teams from catching on to their "f pitchers" philosophy.
With Ramirez, Soriano, Edwards, Rivero, and Johnson all options for the bullpen in the 2nd half (plus the fact that the bullpen has been great lately), I'd much prefer them to save their bullets for a starter.
That's all great, but there's no avoiding the fact that the Cubs never get hot when they need to. The Pirates have won 20 of 25 and the Cubs haven't. That's not the sign of a team built for the playoffs. Hoping this is a joke? Rondon Fan's arguments convinced me.
