  1. Olson went for (at the time) two 50 FV prospects (both close to MLB ready), a 45 FV and a 40 FV from other levels. Following that pattern reasonably closely could get you something like: I absolutely do that deal, I’d try to swap Madrigal in for Morel, but regardless. No brainer for me
  2. Ah, forgot we added him. Never mind the Profar idea then use the money he’d take to throw at an established RP, he can cover a Morel/Madrigal going out. I almost prefer him to Madrigal for a roster balance standpoint, can play more spots, LHH, etc. Not that it's a bad idea because he exists, depth is good and projections for end of roster types are going to be sketchy(McKinstry projects for a 98 wRC+, for example), it just made me wonder how different the expectations were by comparison. True and that’s an interesting find and yeah guys like Mastrobuoni and Mckinstry are gonna be hard to project/be too certain of numbers due to sample. But with those two, Morel, Madrigal I think we have that covered even if we lose one and hopefully add a SS and some sort of other bat.
  3. Interestingly, Profar and Mastrobuoni have near identical projected batted lines w/ Steamer. Ah, forgot we added him. Never mind the Profar idea then use the money he’d take to throw at an established RP, he can cover a Morel/Madrigal going out. I almost prefer him to Madrigal for a roster balance standpoint, can play more spots, LHH, etc.
  4. Was just looking at FA list, not a sexy move but a tertiary move, I saw Profar is a FA. If Morel/Madrigal is used in a trade (Murphy) I wouldn’t hate bringing him in to backfill a utility role spot
  5. Yeah, I love Willson, but I don't see things going all that well for him from age 32ish onward. Which is why I could stomach letting him go. That said, he'll almost certainly hurt us a time or two over the next couple of years, and I'm not looking forward to it. That or he’s going to press like he’ll vs us like he does in big spots and slash like .125/.185/.350 with a 35% K rate vs us
  6. I’ve been wanting to add one of these guys all offseason in any mock I put together. I’d lean slightly more towards Brantley since he can play the field a bit and makes the roster more flexible, plus he Ks less and brings more contact. But I really want one as the Zobrist/professional hitter add. It can’t hurt to have either around the clubhouse either to help and talk hitting with guys either.
  7. Depends on how you define it, but guys with significant offensive improvement on past form would be Montero, Valbuena, Coghlan, and Wisdom in recent years. Further back you have Aramis, Lee, Barrett, and Todd Walker too. Probably could say they fixed Rizzo and Happ too (if last year is close to his new norm), Fowler put up his 2 highest WAR years here and highest OBP and wRC+ year and highest non Coors BA year too and think there was reports they tweaked some stuff with him.
  8. Steele put up more WAR than Taillon last year in ~60 fewer innings and had a lot of good indicators (pretty sure one of his pitches rated close to best in the game). He absolutely belongs in the rotation. Wesneski has a lot to like too, I’d prefer he starts in the pen/swing man but there’s more upside there. They’re not throw away guys by not caring if they’re on the team next year, if they aren’t it means we traded for something good.
  9. Love it, CF defense was a major problem last year. Even a minor bump with the bat out of him improves the roster.
  10. The only proven commodity that Alzolay has is that he’s proven he can’t be healthy and likely isn’t a starter. I’d be fine moving him out if someone gives us something for him, Senga move not mattering.
  11. I’m good passing on Abreu at 3 years, I liked him a lot as a target but not a guy to go over the top on I feel. I wonder what it takes to get Brantley now, would assume Houston is letting him walk. If they feel he could play 1B I love his addition as a “professional bat” he can play some COF too with Happ/whatever CF addition and also be a DH.
  12. He’s defensive metrics aren’t great, I’d almost rather just sign Benintendi or Conforto with Happ in CF (or some sort of rotation) or go more in on offense and sign Brantley for LF and put Happ in CF vs giving up stuff for Yaz.
  13. Hendricks is off the books next year too. There’s a path to spend/add a lot of stuff this year and even be over the tax and be well under it next year with a competitive team both years. Heyward, likely Hendricks, and possibly even Stroman (opt out) could be off the books next year. They should have a lot of capital to add players this winter knowing that the following year they should have even more room. Next years FA class is terrible too, outside of Ohtani. So it’s worth spree spending a bit this year since next year there aren’t many big money guys.
  14. Hendricks is off the books next year too. There’s a path to spend/add a lot of stuff this year and even be over the tax and be well under it next year with a competitive team both years.
  15. Ricketts claiming Steve Bannon’s son, smh
  16. Why keep Rivas with Mervis right there? Rivas still has options and I believe there’s still something in the bat there. Plus for as great a year Mervis had and to be hopeful on him, it’s not like he’s a for sure thing so a little insurance/options wouldn’t hurt. Plus the LHH need. A Bellinger add would have me send him out though too.
  17. Mckinstry, Marquez, Ortega, Leiter for sure. And maybe one of Rucker, Roberts, Rodriguez or Uelman depending on other plans/adds. I like keeping Wick, he’s flashed eliteness and isn’t expensive, if he’s sucking by June/July cut him then.
  18. Almost have to wonder if Ricketts are holding it off to finish some more development around the stadium to maximize revenue (idk what they have left or going on but would assume they still have some projects going) as a reason we haven’t gotten it yet.
  19. There’s been so much noise and smoke about us doing a big addition or two for literal months, idk how that can be your expectation. Literally everyone from Jed to Ross to beat guys to national guys say we’re gonna be doing some significant additions.
  20. Kohl Franklin not being protected is a little surprising. He might not be major league ready but he was hitting 100+ this year and can maybe be a starter still.
  21. 27 year old 2nd baseman who had a cup of coffee in the bigs last year? Ok baseball people, tell me why this is something to maybe get excited about. Probably means Mckinstry is gone if they don’t get him through waivers. Mastrobuoni put up some good minor league numbers last year, can play CF and he has options left (Mckinstry doesn’t). Seems like a simple swap out for Mckinstry with more flexibility. Also if you want to speculate….. a LHH CF/OF bench/utility guy is more valuable than Mckinstry’s ability as a utility/bench guy to play SS if we are adding one of the big SS’s.
  22. The Mets getting their dream owner and then his fund gets wiped out a year later would be so Mets.
  23. Fitzpatrick is the answer to both
  24. Idk if it’s so much freeing 40-man space, it’s getting rid of guys about to be expensive on the 40-man for them
  25. Love Glasnow as a trade target if we’re gonna try and build a winning team. Any of the Thompson’s/Assads/Sampson/Franklins would all seem like dudes the Rays would like with some adder stuff.
