  1. Oh I’m ready to go all meatball “he’s a gutless choking dog, soft as horsefeathers, can’t pitch in a big game bum” as soon as he goes somewhere else
  2. Right or wrong, Tony Clark should probably be fired. Maybe we still end up here if the last CBA was different but he certainly didn’t help to avoid getting to this spot.
  3. Sterns and others in their FO did come from Tampa Bay so no doubt there’s some familiarity. But yes I’d guess it would be expensive and TB has been known to be tough to deal with in the past on guys on asking prices (which Sterns was there for a part of so I assume he knows what he’s getting in to/what makes them tick). Overall agree things don’t change a ton, it seems like they are trying to lock in last years performance with new guys this year that are knowing commodities. Yelich is a safe bet to make up Santana’s WAR, Cain is a safer bet than Broxton/Phillips in CF and Archer is a bet to make up for Nelson’s WAR since he’s hurt and/or Anderson regression. Stearns was never in Tampa, right? horsefeathers, he was the assistant GM in Houston. Idk why I thought he had TB ties.

  5. Well, that’s not great. I’m kinda low on Archer (recent velo dips, bicep or forearm issues I think, can’t get through and order 3 times, only has 2 pitches, gives up lots of hard contact), he’s no doubt good and makes them better but there’s some major red flags. Hopefully he costs them a ton like Santana and Hiura or Burnes or Woodruff and others prospects. Should also add he mentioned the Brewers had a Darvish centered meeting today (internally, Darvish didn’t meet with them) with this news now about the targets/acquisitions I’d think they think they are out of it or are done pursuing him.
  6. Brewer insider guy says he thinks, based on what he’s heard, Archer will be a Brewer and Darvish will not and Cobb will be their FA addition.
  7. Probably could do Lopez for Noah to get that pick and then stretch Noah and have room for the max.
  8. The next person who posts anything from that doofus should be banned from the Transaction thread for a year
  9. Which would seem to make more sense, unless they are ready to go into a team-high payroll area. I suppose they could still empty the farm and get Archer. Agree. Darvish or Jake put them at about their spending threshold historically under Antanosio. They have the pieces to do an Archer or lesser trade for Odorizzi, Corbin, Tehran, etc. and it’s probably the smarter move for them. Or they can wait until mid season/next offseason when the Jays realize they suck and want to move Stroman.
  10. This account broke the Cain and Yelich moves, fwiw. May just be that Brewer board insiders account. [tweet] [/tweet]
  11. I don't think he's going to get seven years so much as I think there's no way in hell he only gets four, short of an undisclosed injury. The top guys almost always get their money in the end. Chris Davis, Max Scherzer, Justin Upton (2 winters ago) all got theirs, and I know it was a while back at this point but Prince Fielder got his too. I can't remember a top guy ever really falling short of expectations, even when they've gone past MLK day without signing. Yoenis Cespedes is probably the closest. Last year he was supposed to get around 5/125 last winter and signed for 4/110. Although he signed that deal fairly early, he wasn't waiting around for two months, so it's possible that he just liked shorter term/higher AAV. IT makes a little more sense for a position player, and as a team that is not at all concerned about the luxury tax it worked out well for the Mets too. There's a lot of smoke coming out of Darvish's camp right now. My guess is that it's more about them trying to wrap things up rather than that them being desperate. I wouldn't be surprised if he has his 6/150 offer in hand, and his agents are basically doing a lap around the league once more to make sure they're not leaving any money on the table. From who? I wouldn't be surprised if we have 6/150ish on the table with options/incentives but not not fully guaranteed and maybe something like 4/110-5/130 guaranteed.
  12. I mean they likely lose Keuchel and Morton (will be 35 as a FA) in a year and Verlander could blow up at any minute at his age/miles on the arm. It makes sense to hold on to those younger arms so they don't need to spend big money on SP if they decide not to (or even use them to upgrade during the year or next offseason if/when Archer, Stroman, etc. are available). It also protects against regression (Verlander/Morton) or injury (Keuchel hasn't exactly been able to pitch a ton of innings for a TOR option the last 2 years). All that depth allows them to go super-pen in the playoffs too and spot start a guy or two here or there during the year to not have Cole/Keuchel/Verlander hit crazy innings this year as well. I'm guessing the ask would be abnormally high since they don't have any glaring holes at the moment on the roster and it provides them nice insurance as I laid out above. It's not that it isn't a good idea or even fit for us but I don't see the urgency or need to move one of those guys if they don't get an overpay.
  13. The obvious conclusion to this nonsense is add a 5th year team option at $30 million that vests with reasonable benchmarks, yet only reachable if he's healthy/performs the first 4 years like ~175 avg IP over those 4 years and a healthy buyout (~$10 million) if the option isn't picked up or vests. This isn't that hard, Theo!!!!!
  14. If that is indeed the sticking point as some reports suggest, I wholeheartedly agree. The only reason I can see for Theo/Jed still holding firm is if they have solid intel that Darvish doesn't really have a significantly better offer that would cause him to not eventually cave in and sign a 4-year deal. Yeah I agree with both these points. If it’s ~25 on the aav I wouldn’t even have a problem going to 6 years with him so it’s kind of silly to me to hear (obviously rumors) we won’t go to 5 to get it done. Hopefully it is Theo just really feels he knows he has the best offer/only realistic place Yu wants to go.
  15. So going with your 2/12 estimate, that would be $6 million against the cap this year. We have no way of knowing for sure what the Cubs feel they can safely spend going into the season, but if spending that 6 mill would only allow the Cubs to offer a max of $24 million per for Darvish and he won't sign for that AAV, would you still want Avila? No, obviously. That’s part of the reason I’m pissed Darvish is taking so much time because if he didn’t decide us we could have gone Cobb or Jake and Avila most likely for under the ~30 mil we have to work with.
  16. Apparently Milton Bradley had another domestic violence incident. What a scumbag.
  17. Yeah, he’ll get a lot more playing time but he said earlier in the year he’d go to a contender even if he had a lesser role. If 2/8.5 was his best offer for playing time, I’d assume 2/12 would’ve been enough to nudge him to come to us to play less.
  18. I wish we would've been all over this, even if we had to bump it by a few million. [tweet] [/tweet]
  19. Cut him or try and get someone to take him and pay a few million each year of the deal It seems like they do this all the time in the NBA but it's harder to pull off in baseball since the rosters are so much bigger. In what sense? They just did it with Gonzalez and the Braves and the Braves cut him.
  20. I know the discussion yesterday was some not caring about this info or guy but I'll post it anyway since he clearly has a source and there's probably at least some half truths to it.....
  21. What do they do with Kemp? Cut him or try and get someone to take him and pay a few million each year of the deal
  22. Here's an outside the box idea.... If Darvish/Dodgers really want to get back together, tell the Dodgers we'll take Kemp and Ryu all their salary but we need Walker Buehler to do that, throw in a prospect or something going back if needed. They are essentially trading Ryu/Kemp/Buehler for Darvish. Then we can go a few routes, go sign a remaining FA SP (even just a Hellickson until Buehler is ready), hold and develop Buehler and let Monty/Ryu start the year as the 5 until he's ready or turn around and trade Buehler, Happ and prospects for Archer.
  23. We all know Theo's biggest fear is the liquor store closest to his Wrigley office running out of Jager
  24. Kevin Love broke his hand tonight and is out 6-8 weeks. 8 weeks puts us about 10 days-2 weeks away from the start of the playoffs (so maybe 5 games at most before the playoffs he'd have to get back in the swing of things if it's closer to 8 than 6 weeks.). The Cavs essentially have no chance at a top 2 seed anymore and 3 losses separates them at the 3 seed and the 8 seed. It's crazy to think but if Lebron won't guarantee them he's re-signing with them next year (he won't) they really should do whatever they can to get him to waive his NTC and get some assets. I don't see a way that team wins the championship this year.
  25. because he's been spot on with everything else, including stuff that was pretty off the radar, so he obviously has information if you don't wanna read it that's cool but i'm not sure why you don't see why people are interested has any of the stuff he's been right about not been about the brewers? he was wrong about the one cubs thing he said he knew, whether the cubs end up with darvish or not. He hasn’t been wrong necessarily. He admitted he made the jump to conclusion on saying Darvish to Cubs when all he heard from his source was we substantially outbid the Brewers on him. He’s still favoring us to get him as well and said by Monday he will decide.... I don’t know if any other Cubs centric stuff he’s said and whether it was true or not.
