Liked the fit to diversify the offense and go super defense on the infield. Pivot and trade for Adam Frazier now.

The problem is the whole NL Central is a dumpster fire, regardless of this move. It’s a race to 85 wins +/-. The 2005 Padres won the west at 82-80, and that appears to be the lowest wins for a division winner ever in a 162 game season after a quick google search, the NL central may challenge that this year.

Really like this move for what it is, reasonably dependable innings eater with maybe a little more to unlock with some tweaks. Now go sign Wong and maybe another flyer pitcher and we at least have a decent chance to win the division.

I mean this isn’t a normal super bowl week, the Chiefs aren’t even in Tampa and there aren’t nearly as many events scheduled to turn in to content. Maybe they’re okay with trades for now since it provides something to cover. -

Not a bad move if it’s for depth, he has options left, and throw him down in Iowa and screw around with him to maybe fix or unlock something. But I fear he’s going to be depended on as a SP this year since we are cheap fucks.

Gotta think it’s something bad and labor related, like the players are considering a strike because the owners are being shits wanting to shorten the season/cut salaries and players want a full season/guaranteed pay and a new CBA. Plus since it’s SB week the story will get buried if Passan is basically running it as PR for the league. I suppose other news to tease like that would be expansion or the Rays moving? Or an owner in a McCourt/Zell type spot where they’re bankrupt/insolvent and needing to sell? Or maybe something with a plan for vaccinating the players and/or allowing fans to some capacity? Whatever it is, I expect it to be bad.

I liked the defense über alles kinda offseason even when I thought we were going to invest some money in the pitching staff. It makes even more sense knowing how young the staff looks like it's going to be at this point. Sign Wong, find some glove first CF, and try to win a bunch of games 3-2. Depending on what happens with KB and Willson that might be the best defensive team in the league. Yeah go get Wong and Pillar and the offense and defense would be really good, defensively elite with Bote and Nico as subs. Then go throw another $5 mil or so at some lotto ticket SPs and see where it goes. My fear would be we sign Wong and still trade Bryant and go Bote/Duffy/Schrock/Nico and 3B with Wong and Nico or one of the RHH at 2B and get worse but save money AAV wise and still could thread the needle to win the division or sell off at deadline. Bryant/Javy/Wong/Rizzo with Bote and Nico to supplement would be the best IF defense in baseball probably.

Yeah I don’t really remember watching NBCSN on actual TV, only time I use them is to stream golf through their app once in a while when they will throw up rounds early on there before it goes live to Golf Channel or regular NBC on TV.

I had mixed feelings about bringing him back. I wish he had just retired as seeing him on a different team will suck. We are going to suck this year anyways so I wish we gave him a few mil to ride off in the sunset here and so he could get a final send off in front of fans in Wrigley. Also don’t blame him going somewhere else, he’s a competitor and get him not wanting to be around a team who’s ceiling is maybe 84 wins and picking to be somewhere else with a better chance for a final playoff run.
