  1. Evan has connections to KB/his dad, so I’d say this is informed speculation vs just throwing horsefeathers out. I could see KB coming in pretty cheap on an extension with the FA market (Lindor, Seager, Correa, Story, Conforto, Javy, Freeman, Kershaw, maybe Bauer, etc.) there’s only so much money and teams willing to spend. KB could get lost in the shuffle/not prioritized and it may be wise for him to lock something up now. Doing a deal structured like Bauer maybe makes the most sense (not at his AAV level of course) but he can lock in long term money but get opt outs to get more if he performs well and we get a little discount. A 4-6 year deal in the $95-$125 mil range with some opt outs early on and front loaded seems to make sense for everyone.
  2. We all seem to have figured out this is probably going to have to be the way to get through the year with SP, but Jed is confirming it now.
  3. O/U came out today, at least at some spots. Surprised we’re that low. I would’ve guessed us, Reds, Cardinals and Brewers would all be in the 79-82 range and there wouldn’t be that large a gap between us and those 3.
  4. With the 40-man crunch, they have to clear two spots for Jake and Marisnick and another for this alleged bullpen move that’s imminent.... I wonder if Ryan gets cut if he’s going to be delayed. With Chafin, Wieck and Steele already around that makes some sense plus he makes like $800,000 and if he’s cut now the team gets most of that. Which isn’t nothing and can go towards this new RP potentially.
  5. I hope it’s not Jeffress, don’t want to bank on his smoke and mirrors from last year. Hopefully it’s Kennedy, Rosenthal or Greene.
  6. Sogard is the only LHH 2B left, so uh hopefully we have a trade lined up.
  7. Keith you got people worked up by repeatedly comparing his lack of power to Juan Pierre, then tried to whitewash it with this generic 'guess I was right your team's prospect wasn't a star' schtick when he doubled that level of IsoP at every level, including MLB. Law kinda sucks, someone should ask him how Hak Ju Lee is doing
  8. A’s re-signed Petit to a 1 year deal, I mentioned him the other day as a vet target I wouldn’t mind and Levine said we are still looking to add a vet RP. Ian Kennedy or Shane Greene would be my top two picks for that role. Maybe Nick Tropeano as more of a flyer or Juan Nicasio is a little interesting as well. Or just bring Tepera back.
  9. Probably because it will take more than that to trade for him. Yeah I’m guessing it takes someone be in the Roederer, Abbott, Strumpf range of prospects then whatever throw ins and maybe even Bote or Nico to get Frazier. There were rumors Luis Arraez may be available earlier in the offseason. He’d be an awesome fit, great contact hitter and he has a career like .350/.390/.480 slash line vs RHP.
  10. These words may come back to haunt me, but... I'm happy with the Cubs bullpen. Oh, so am I. I think there’s enough pieces and some known quantities that they’ll have a top ~12 bullpen by the end of the year. This FO has proven pretty well they can build a good bullpen. Would just like one more vet/little more known guy out there. Especially on a cheap 1 year deal.
  11. If I had to guess... Maples and Norwood seem to be the top two cut candidates. Maybe Ryan (with Chafin in and if Wieck is looking healthy plus Steele and other non 40-man guys he would make sense since there’s plenty of LHRP options) and also maybe Wieck if they feel he’s broken. Could also send Fenter back or trade some nothing prospect for him to clear the spot if they want to keep him. Then there’s also a trade of some guy(s) like KB/Willy/etc. Yeah, those are my thoughts as well, though I didn't think of Norwood. I’d really lean Ryan if Wieck is healthy. With the 3 batter min he doesn’t have much value, plus if he’s cut now we save if not his entire salary like 80-90% of it. Granted it’s only $800,000 but it’s something.

  13. I know there’s plenty of guys to give tryouts to in the bullpen, but wouldn’t mind Yusmeiro Petit or Ian Kennedy on a cheap 1 year deal to give us a “safe” bullpen option. Also still really want to trade for Adam Frazier.
  14. The 40-man is currently full and have to make room for Marisnick and Jake
  15. With the shortened year last year there is an extreme need for innings. Jake, Hendricks, Davies, Williams and Mills probably shouldn’t be counted on for more than 145-165 innings. Alzolay is still likely in the rotation even after adding Jake. The Miller’s of the world will get their chances with injuries, pitch limits, etc. horsefeathers, Adbert has thrown ~110, ~40, ~80, ~20 innings the last 4 years. If he’s starting every 4-6 days he’s gonna hit an innings limit by July or so.
  16. Bottom 5-10 in DRS at every infield position last year
  17. Decent thread about how maybe tweaking some things could make him serviceable. If we can get 160-180 innings of 3.9-4.5 ERA ball I’d take it.
  18. I do wonder if they go with a 6-man rotation. Given the innings limit issues, Hendricks being the only proven guy and everyone else having some sort of questions/issues around them.
  19. Never forget
  20. Yeah I irrationally like this. He’s probably washed up but whatever.
  21. This is fun, Davis is gonna be a stud. I think he’s Jayson Werth with elite defense. That finish on the swing is a mirror image.
  22. Would’ve been a nice add at that price, I expect us to sign Kipnis/Panik/Sogard/Holt for a league min/NRI deal in the next week or so.
