Eloy is going to have a hard time ever being all that valuable. He literally needs to be a JD Martinez type to be more than a 2ish WAR player. I still do the trade today knowing everything we know right now. -

We have a nice spectrum of base runners on this team. Javy, KB and Heyward are elite and other worldly Happ and Willy are good (so is Russell) and Zobrist seems to know his role, then there’s dumb horsefeathers Rizzo and slowass Almora on the way horsefeathers end of spectrum.

I think that move was done explicitly for Mekke’s. Figure out exactly what we have. Bass, Zas, Hancock, Farrell, etc are nothing special to make them irreplaceable they should be rotating Mekkes and Maples in who have the upside -
This is also exactly what the Brewers did with Hader last year and this year.

It’s not the spot for AAAA fodder like Anthony Bass and Luke Farrell either since you have like 7 guys like them within your own organization or can get one for literally nothing if you want via trade or FA at anytime. Go with the upside arm not the horsefeathers arms. I’d rather gamble bringing in Maples that he has his good stuff going to embarrass dudes than hope Farrell, Bass, etc contact manage and get BABIP luck

Maples is gonna be awesome soon. Too bad Joe let him go 40+ that he’ll be optioned tomorrow and Anthony Bass and Luke Farrell and their ilk get to stick around

He has the stuff to literally be the best reliever in MLB if he can get the BB rate to even just Colorado Chatwood.
