  1. Murphy basically is Almora at the plate right now. Take your walk, horsefeathers
  2. Pedro done for year, moderate strain. Postseason TBD
  3. First half Almora was a house of cards and unsustainable player. He horsefeathering sucks and second half Almora is what he is +/- if he’s going to face a lot of RHP. He may suck now but he didn't suck in the 1st half, unsustainable or not he was a big part of the offense then when he got to play and helped win a bunch of games with his bat and glove. Yeah it was great he was able to put up fluky numbers to play well and help us in the first half it absolutely was needed and helped us and there’s no denying that, it’s just the numbers were a complete mirage and not sustainable and not the real player he is or was.
  4. Wrong. 21 pitches is not just 21 pitches when it is spread out across multiple innings. He had to warm up and come in the game, then pitch. Then he had to sit and wait, warm up again and pitch another inning. At this point he's done. He should not come back. But Joe tried to make him sit through another long inning, then planned on having him warm up and pitch again. It was a stupid risk. They should have gone for the runs. They should not have risked their pitcher's arm by bringing him back for a third inning. That alone was reason enough to make the change, but bases loaded with 1 out is absolutely time to take him out. and gone with who exactly? Its not like we are knocking the cover off the ball. LaStella was available. Which he’s a good option to hit there, Joe just went through every decent arm up to that point and we already had the lead I’m fine leaving Strop in to go for it. If he pulls Strop and Rosario, Maples, Mills, Kintzler, etc blow that game we’d be bitching about that too.
  5. Strop has never recorded more than 6 outs in a game, which makes the move more idiotic. Maddon has done a great job most of the time, but every so often he has to do something outlandish to try to uphold his "genius" status. Hopefully LaStella comes back strong after his day off. He was at 21 pitches, it was a fine move to ride with him in the situation they were in. It was an absolute fluke injury, he should’ve been told not to swing. The issue isn’t leaving Pedro in and letting him bat, I take issue with like the dozen other decisions Joe made to lead to that situation coming up (Willy over Zobrist PH, Gore inexplicably in LF and getting an AB, pulling Monty so early, etc). The Pedro thing was the right call for the situation we had on our hands but to get to that situation Joe fucked up.
  6. Hopefully it’s just a grade 1 strain for Pedro. Tanaka hurt BOTH his hamstrings running the bases and had a grade 1 and only missed 1 start and Jake last year had a grade 1 and missed only 2 starts (but we built a decent lead over that time, iirc, and maybe it was being extra careful, he did it on that Labor Day start in Pitt). Either way hopefully it’s a grade 1 because that seems like a ~10 day at max for missed time and could get him back the last 1-2 series of the year and certainly playoffs.
  7. First half Almora was a house of cards and unsustainable player. He horsefeathering sucks and second half Almora is what he is +/- if he’s going to face a lot of RHP.
  8. Winning is a little morbid these days, something terrible has to happen to do it
  9. Monty is pitching well this year, he’s gotten big outs out of the bullpen before, he’s added a new pitch, he’s seen velo upticks out of the pen when he’s done it, he can go multiple innings, he’s a plenty fine leverage relief pitcher in the playoffs. Sometimes it’s okay not to post when all it is, is doom bonering and making back handed remarks about what others have said in the past. oh brother. we all hoped that they'd be able to minimize the crappy rotation by using the horsefeathers out of our really good relievers in the postseason. the bullpen is now in a completely different than it was before, due to injuries and general ineffectiveness. saying "we can put montgomery there!" is a far cry from the original logic, and you know it. if you're really desperate to take issue with the point, then you should just talk about how the rotation is in better shape now than it was then. Fair enough but there’s still a way to throw decent options out there and still bullpen a few games, not what we wished but I don’t think we’re doomed. It is a good thing the rotation is better now. It’s been a weird year, let’s just try and enjoy this annoying ride I guess.
  10. Hey TBS, how about we stop making new threads bud
  11. Right, haven’t ever seen him shut a thing down in his life sometimes it's okay to not respond when you don't have a real point Monty is pitching well this year, he’s gotten big outs out of the bullpen before, he’s added a new pitch, he’s seen velo upticks out of the pen when he’s done it, he can go multiple innings, he’s a plenty fine leverage relief pitcher in the playoffs.
  12. Monty will be in there and Strop could be back in 2 weeks. So still could nothing says shutdown reliever like mike montgomery Right, haven’t ever seen him shut a thing down in his life
  13. Monty will be in there and Strop could be back in 2 weeks. So still could. Monty/Chavez/JDLR/Wilson/Cishek/Carl/Maybe Strop Or Morrow is plenty workable. Give Mekkes and Webster a shot here too coming up see if something sticks.
  14. Move Mills back to the rotation and Monty to the pen. Monty in the pen with Strop out the rest of the way is probably more valuable than 2 starts from him.
  15. He was really bad today. Most of the bullpen moves I can kinda sorta get just since everything is such a coin flip there right now but the offensive moves were puzzling
  16. Darvish can throw in the 70s left handed, maybe harder. See what he has.
  17. Get Webster and Mekkes up here ASAP
  18. Aroldis Chapman isn't walking through that door
  19. The last time Pedro hurt his leg in September on a fluke play things went okay
  20. No, it was not the right move. Or if you're going to have him bat, he bunts until he strikes out It was absolutely the right move to stick with him, him getting hurt there on a non HBP is crazy unlucky. Sure probably should’ve said don’t swing. But with the lead and only at like 20 pitches and where the bullpen is at I think it was the right move.
