  1. So nobody needs to give clicks. Theo literally said this about KB in the article So it was the old, player wasn’t listed as untouchable so they must be making him available click bait article.
  2. Yeah I’m calling BS on that. Didn’t Theo basically shut down the same report from Kaplan or one of the other local idiots a month ago?
  3. yeah, i mean, opt-outs are just another way of providing value, no different than money or whatever the hell else. you can try to not give them out, but you better be offering a lot more money in exchange. Right and in exchange for Opt Outs players (in theory) give you a little bit of a discount or agree to an extra year or two overall for AAV purposes if that's what a team feels is important.
  4. Yeah that’s not the point though. Players who already have leverage (due to age positional scarcity or whatever) will always ask for opt outs. Once one team is willing to kick in, they all have to. You might as well be complaining about the per year dollar figure. “But why do we have to pay him $30 million?????” Because he asked for it and he could get it from someone else if not us. If you don’t want to do it, don’t, but you aren’t getting the player. Consider the absurdity of wanting Harper but griping about his opt outs. It’s the price of doing business baby Does this mean there needs to be an opt-out cap, just like there are salary caps? I’m pretty sure there are some rules and restrictions with them (or maybe I’m confusing them with options).
  5. I’m sure Bryce would sign a deal with no opt outs if he was given ~$100 million more than the highest offer and a full NTC because those are the type of trade offs you’d have to give for him not having opt outs. Whether or not you think opt outs are good or bad or like them or not doesn’t matter. They’re a reality you have to deal with and accept that you likely have to offer them when going after the upper end FAs and if you aren’t willing to include them you aren’t getting a guy most of the time.
  6. Bryce and Boras meeting with the White Sox almost has to entirely be to leverage some team he actually wants to go to, to up an offer or jump in that currently isn’t. He’s not actually going to end up there or St Louis.
  7. Seems relevant for Bryce [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. The other problem with Gordon is Joe would lead him off anytime he started because “he’s fast and slaps the ball around and that’s what a leadoff hitter is and does” even though he walked 9 times last year (BB% under 2%) and Almora has a higher career OBP than him.
  9. If they were to add anyone with some velocity and the ability to pitch in the MLs next year, then this idea moves from “hmm” to something you do very quickly Agreed with you on Pazos. Liked him with the Yankees and believe he refined himself well with the Mariners. Big physical LH in the mold of Justin Wilson but better athlete and more potential for strong fastball command Yeah, since they got Mallex for CF and now don't have a catcher, I wonder if we could swing some kind of Caratini and prospect for Pazos/Dee Gordon. Gordon is Juan Pierre 2.0, no horsefeathering thank you. He also makes ~$25 million the next two years
  10. Oh yeah. If we could’ve gotten Pazos back in it too with some other stuff going back (the always mentioned Vic, Maples, Short, etc type crowd) I definitely would’ve done it. I still like Pazos as a target a lot, even more than Miller or Britton when considering cost. I’d do Almora and Kintzler for him all day.

  12. This is all so horsefeathering weird. [tweet] [/tweet]
  13. It’s all half assed, half measures if we only re-tool to the level of just adding like McCutchen or a similar level player or 2. Like swapping in McCutchen for Happ or Schwarber doesn’t even probably add a win to projections. I would be happy with just adding 2016 Dexter Fowler. Who is out there that’s adding ~4.5 WAR? Because I don’t see that guy outside of Bryce or Machado.

  15. I’d say there’s still some small chance Theo pulls some magic and gets him. But in all likelihood that’s not the case and we aren’t getting him. I’d say I’m at 98% we aren’t getting him.
  16. In Sharma’s latest article he said Schwarber’s back injury was actually a disc issue and it’s something that would or could scare interested teams off from trading for him. Oh, shocking another Cubs player had an actual underlying injury instead of it just being a minor thing that they thought it was. Bang up job once again medical staff, Gryzlo you MF’er.
  17. I like that this is a focus but these are half measures if we don’t add Bryce [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. What a depressing couple of articles [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  19. I almost feel like the FO wants to go in a different direction with the manager but don't want to fire the coach who won the franchises first championship in 108 years. Yeah it seems like they’re trying to smoke Joe out with this move
  20. This seems like taking a shot at Joe more than anything if Hickey’s fired. I’m pretty indifferent on Hickey but he was Joe’s guy and if we’re going to keep Joe around for a year it seems like a weird move if you want your manager happy and motivated.
  21. Seems like a pretty weak extension attempt. Under $400 mil and no opt outs. [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. Well these are not great comments by Jed
