  2. I was interested in both, to varying degrees, as CF options for us. Looks like we can cross both off. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. Assuming health I think they’re a 35-42 win team and get the 6-8 seed. Tonight was ugly and embarrassing but there’s talent there.
  4. Friendship ended with Cubs now Nats are my new best friends
  5. He also went 0-3 or 0-4 with 3 or 4 strikeouts vs the corpse of James Shields in his first game, clearly wasn’t ready. Case closed.
  6. I agree, I mean when he came in as a player here all we heard about from people how he was going to make a good manager one day. I think at worst he’s going to be adequate and just kinda follow the information and data available and we know (at least with the current team) he’s a guy who can be a leader and command respect.
  7. I feel like I'm a good person. Sometimes I feel bad that I don't care at all about either the players or the owners, other than I wish good health for them. Yeah, this is definitely a don’t care thing for me other than I want my favorite team to be able to keep their very good player for an extra year because I like having very good players. The service time rules suck/have clear loopholes, hopefully they’re fixed in the next CBA and KB will be a reason they fix it (and good for him for leading the charge) but I want him to lose this case.
  8. I feel this way too. Especially with the timing of this to potentially have 1 year left if he wins. If this went to arbitration in 2015/16 and he won its workable to plan around, but this would be a big blow. I also wish we knew what we’ve offered him over the years in extensions that he’s turned down.
  9. When the trade cost is the best hiring catcher in baseball, it is a significant disadvantage I would gladly switch Caratini with Contreras in the trade proposal, but I doubt the Pirates would be interested. Going by what Epstein said about making a big change and figuring in our budget / mediocre farm system, one of our core players looks to be on the block. I can't see Rizzo or Baez being traded, which pretty much leaves Contreras or Bryant. Depending on the return, we would have a big downgrade at 3B or a lesser downgrade at catcher. Without trading one of the "core four", the best trade assets have very limited value on the trading block. When did he say this in regards to the roster? I don’t think he’s spoken any absolutes about it, it’s all been GM speak. The big change stuff, that was stated clearly/imminent at least, was more FO and coaching directed with changing things (and they already are on their way to doing it).
  10. Well then they won’t trade him if they’re being offered 30 cents on the dollar, they’re not that desperate. I’d guess some teams step up and pay full freight, however.
  11. You just said the relationship is strained and they'd be trading him in that context over money. Where is the incentive for teams to offer an actual nice haul? If it's as bad as you imagine, we all know Boras loves eliminating any of the richest teams from signingh his clients obvy, what's the Cubs' incentives to hold out for a worthwhile haul? I think Betts' FA is very much in focus right now even with the burden of Bryant on the payroll He’s still one of the better players in baseball over the last few years, with presumably 2 years left of control. Teams will pay up if he’s available. Sure some teams will lowball (at least to start) but there will be multiple teams lining up to talk trade, something will shake loose and eventually someone will pay what’s commensurate with his value.
  12. How/Why? Its a horrendous look to trade your best player, who doesnt even have serious comp for that title on the team, because you feel he is being a little uppity over a legit greivance. Good luck keeping or attracting talent moving forward. I think it’s just pretty clear that relationship is strained and him and Boras (rightfully so) are still pissed about this and I just see it being hard to ever have good faith negotiations on an extension or once he hits FA to come back. He’s as good as gone in 2 years (or hopefully not 1). Trading him would bring back a nice haul and help extend a window past the next two years. Shift focus to either Rendon this offseason or Mookie next year as the big money spend.
  13. I think this whole thing really ups the chances he’s moved this offseason. [tweet] [/tweet]
  14. Unless guys get hired away idk why they just wouldn’t keep the coaching staff as is. They seem to like Loretta enough that I don’t think they’d fire him as bench coach if he wants to stay. Didn't he interview for manager? Guys who try and get the bigger job rarely* stay at the lesser role when another candidate wins. *Not sure if true, just an assumption. He did and so did Venable (who also interviewed for the Giants job). Loretta was a coach or in the FO San Diego with Jed and played for Theo/Jed in Boston, I think they clearly like him. Maybe it’s awkward but he’s not getting a head coaching job this offseason so it’s basically stay as bench coach or go try and find some lateral or lower job. I don’t think it’s uncommon to bring coaches back who are on the staff and interviewed for the main job and didn’t get it. I’d assume part of his interview was discussing the scenario of him coming back if he wasn’t hired as the HC. Edit: Well Loretta is interviewing or has interviewed for the Padres job. Anyways I think bench coach and maybe 1B coach (which who cares) will be the only two spots they potentially change out.

  16. Yeah I can’t imagine him winning, what total BS with the timing of this for the remote chance he wins and becomes a FA after the year. I think this definitely ups the chances he’s moved.
  17. This douche was apparently one of the front runners for the Red Sox GM/Pres of Ops job
  18. I forget which sports game (maybe NBA 2K) but one does like 3-5 different covers for the game every year, maybe they’ll have some different photo’s of Javy available. Since there are so many things they could do.
  19. This hitter needs a free starting job on this team? Eh, it’s 80 PAs. No doubt it’s a “problem” he needs to fix, but we’re talking like 15-20 PAs of him not chasing to swing the percentages to an acceptable level. There’s an elite hit/contact tool in there, I’m fine if we want to start him in AAA next year to work on things but he should be part of the plans to an extent. We can’t have stars at every position and we need more solid depth and contact hitters and he provides that. Do they track O-Zone swing % in the minors? Would be interested to see where he was down there.
  20. I’d recommend reading the whole thing but this part stood out.
  21. I think Cam is pretty much done, he makes Mitch look like an accurate passer over the last year or so. That game vs Tampa earlier in the year he was missing guys by like 10 feet.
