  1. I would rather have Peavy in the rotation and Lee at 1B and Marquis pitching on another team
  2. He would've been a 20 game winner this year had the bullpen not blown some of the leads he left the game with. This does not even include games where he got crummy run support that the Cubs later won after he was pulled Yeah for like the first month and a half he didn't win on the road and it had nothing to do with how he pitched, his number were virtually the same home/away except the bullpen always blew up on him or the offense didn't support him.
  3. ugh I hear Brian Roberts might be available...
  4. What would it take to get Dejesus? I know he isn't a power guy but he is a solid option if we feel Bradley/Ibanez is too expensive or we feel they can't handle RF/everyday duties. Cedeno, Hart/Ascanio, and Atkins might be enough to get a deal done for Dejesus.
  5. Maybe a third team couldn't be found? Or maybe Peavy expanded his list of available teams and the Padres are seeking a trade with that team.
  6. Does he see himself as a starter or reliever at the major league level? What has changed most since he started just focusing on baseball? Has he been able to add more pitches? Throw harder/more strikes?
  7. According to another board Levine was just on ESPN 1000 and said Bradley is the only RF Hendry is looking at. Gotta love that .436 OBP and .999 OPS. His injury history is somewhat discouraging, but with our depth we could afford to have him play in only 120-130 games. BTW, what board was this? And consider me on board for Bradley. Even if he only play 110-120 games that would be alright since we have the felixibilty with DeRosa, Fontenot, Fukudome, etc. I'd much much rather have 110 games of Bradley than 145 games of Ibanez or somebody like that. It was on the cubs.com board here is the link http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ml-cubs&tid=346875 They guy says it was from ESPN 1000 a few posts below his original post.
  8. $33/3? I would guess around that maybe a team comes in a gives him a 4th year or 12-13 per year, but I would guess he would get 3 guaranteed years at the max with options for a 4th or 5th year. I wouldn't mind the Cubs signing him to just a two year deal but for more money like 2@22-25 with a 3rd year option.

"Hendry is now looking solely at Milton Bradley for right field! Says he is the best mix of great offensive potential and a pretty reliable glove." That's what was on the board.

  11. Nice to know there is an option on the 4th year, it's potentially only a 3 year deal if he doesn't do well. Should be interesting what type of option it is team? player? vesting? It's a player options, it's more protection for Dempster. If Dempster is still pitching like an ace after three years, he can opt out and still get another good contract at age 35. SStill isn't an awful deal, the first 3 years are reasonable even if you factor in Dempster regressing some, kind of wish that it was at least a vesting option however. IMO that 4th year player option will determine if this deal is a success or failure. When you consider that Marquis is making nearly 10 mil this year, this should be a good deal for the production we should get out of Dempster, even if he falls back to a little better than league average.

  13. hopefully he front loads it so we have a little more flexibility in 2-3 years Hopefully, I was just looking at the contracts and we have some contracts that get real pricey in a year or two Z is at nearly 18 for the next 4 years. Soriano is at 16 this year and 18 for the remainder of the contract, Ramirez is at 15.75 for the next two and then he will probably opt out after 2010, Lee is at 13 for the next two years and then likely won't be back unless he takes a pay cut, Lilly makes 12 the next two years, Kosuke is at 11.5 then 13 and 13.5 the next 3 years. Take into account Marmol is going to be getting some big pay raises within the next 2-3 years, Harden and Gregg are FA after this season (those two alone are will add another 15), Dempster just resigned for 4@52, and we will likely still sign another bat and potentially bring on Peavy. Then we have the auto renewals in Theriot, Fontenot, Soto, Pie, Guzman Hoffpauir who are only going to make more. Then we have the arbitration guys in Johnson, Gaudin, Wuertz and Cotts who will all be at or over 1 mil. We are going to have a payroll at nearly 200 mil within the next two years if we are going to field a competitive team.
  14. Dempster for 4@52 roughly, and assuming Hendry backloaded it as usual, he will probably be making around 8-10 mil this year.
  15. I dont think it has to happen in that order. Hopefully we have more payroll flexibility than is reported because keeping Marquis as a spot starter/long man would really help us out. I doubt that is possible, I meant it more to say that Marquis is going to have to get traded in order for us to get Peavy, not that Marquis has to go before we trade for Peavy. With pitching at such a premium I would think Marquis at 1 year for 7mil. could be attractive to maybe a team like the Rangers, Orioles, Giants, Bluejays, Indians, or Tigers who could use a guy to go 180+ innings at get them 10-13 wins.
  16. With Dempster back, we are going to have to get rid of Marquis before we can trade for Peavy. So far though what has been rumored to happen has, let Wood walk, resign Dempster and trade for Peavy. Should be interesting if there are any takers for Marquirs, he only has one year left so that has to make him a little more tradeable.
  17. Why must they torture us so? Why did we even trade Ceda, who a lot of teams would have been interested in for a 30 year old with 1 year left on his contract? If were going to do this, Josh Vitters will somehow be involved. Thats all fine and dandy, but 1 way or another, I need closure on this. I know I just want something to happen to get it over with. What are some potential third teams? Rays: Andy Sonnanstine or Edwin Jackson Twins: Delmon Young Royals: Zach Grienke Pirates: Ian Snell maybe Zach Duke or Paul Maholm Since the purpose of including a third team is to send pitching to San Diego the Twins and Young don't fit in at all.I know they want pitching but Young is rumored to be available and he is a solid good young bat that they could build a order around with Adrian for the next few years. Maybe Hendry/Towers could get the Twins to involve Slowey, Blackburn, or Perkins as well. I think the Rays are the most realistic option as Sonnanstine/Jackson are probably going to get moved, it's just a matter of what the Rays would want in return? All the Pirates pitchers probably had more value last year except Maholm, Snell was supposed to take that next step this year and become a solid top of the rotation starter but he had a pretty bad season. Snell is a good buy low candidate this offseason.
  18. Well a trade would definitely do some damage to the farm, we could restock rather quick if we don't resign Dempster and someone is stupid enough to sign Howry. With the picks from those two and Wood we could have 4-5 picks in the top 80 next year. We also had a pretty solid draft this last year so we have a lot of guys who can't be traded right now but could be solid in a few years, like Jay Jackson, Cashner, Ryan Flaherty, Chris Carpenter, Aaron Shafer and we signed that Asian SS that is supposed to be good but I forgot his name, he got a signing bonus close to a mil.

  20. Fred Lewis from San Francisco could be be a potential target, he isn't a big power guy/producer but he is speedy has a decent OBP and is fast so he could fall under the "athletic" category that Hendry/Piniella seem so enamored with.
  21. If that's the case, which I think is possible, then our bullpen would be even worse. Marmol and who? Samardzija struggled down the stretch, Guzman is always hurt, Hart hasn't done anything, Ascanio is unproven, and Wuertz/Gaudin/Cotts are inconsistent at best.
  22. I can't believe it :( :banghead: :cray:  . Good luck Kerry wherever you may go. I don't get it we can give Dempster 4+years@45+mil and not even give Kerry a 2-3 year deal...
  23. Possibly, could also be Ascanio, I highly doubt we gave up Ceda for him. Does Hart get classified as a hard thrower? he could also be the guy.
  24. I like the move, it was evident we needed to add another bullpen arm regardless if Wood left or not. If we can bring wood back we could have a pretty solid 6-9 inning guys with Samardzija, Guzman, Gregg, Marmol and Wood, they could really shorten up games. If Wood isn't back it gives us another guy to probably use in a 7/8th inning by committee with Guzman, Samardzija and Gregg to get to Marmol in the 9th.
  25. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/wcStory?contentId=8752554 So apparently the Braves rumors were false. I just want to get this over with and this is really starting to turn into Roberts version 2.0. :banghead:
