  1. 1 league: Julius Jones vs. ARI or Steve Slaton @CIN 2nd league: McNabb @OAK or Brees vs. NYG Need to start 3 of: Harvin vs. BAL Knox @ATL Driver vs. Det Colston vs. NYG of the 3 WR I think Driver is the only guy that I am going with for sure, need 2 of the other 3.
  2. If the Cubs payroll was 50m, I suppose I could see a reason to celebrate an 83 win season. But when you spend like a top 5 salary team, the fans should expect top 5 talent results. I'd be curious to see a list of the power rankings of all the teams when you factor in money spent on the team. I'd bet the Cubs would rank in the bottom 5 of the entire major leagues. For example, if the Cubs spent 130m and won 83 games, I would rank that as worse than an Cincinnati team that spent 73m and won 78 games. I am not saying that it's acceptable or something to celebrate, but if it 83 wins becomes a measuring stick for a "bad" season for the Cubs, then I think we are going in the right direction.
  3. The thing is we won 83 [expletive] games, sure that isn't great, but is sure as [expletive] isn't bad. People in the media, and some on here, are acting like it's 2006 all over again. I don't know if I should be angry or happy with the season we just had? But if 83 wins starts to become the norm for Cubs fans to get angry at the team with, sign me up.
  4. Grienk is a FA after 2012 King Felix's contract was purchased in 2005 and he officially has 3.060 years of ML service, so he is probably a FA around 2012/13 Lincecum's contract was purchased in 2007 and has 1.148 years of ML service so he won't be a FA until 2014/15 or so.
  5. Castro and Vitters are probably the only locks we have, and we have a few guys on the fringe that probably 1-2 will get in. Those being both Jackson's (Jay obviously has a better chance), Carpenter, Lee, Cashner and possibly Burke.
  6. http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/08/22/amd_madden_chone_figgins.jpg So how much is this man going to increase his value in the postseason that Jimbo decides to give him a 5/60 deal?
  7. And 25th in UZR. No kidding? Ouch. I wonder what on earth could cause that large of a disconnect. Wouldn't it be the lack of range that could cause this? Your defense can't be considered all that great if you are good at fielding the balls hit right at you, but horrible at covering anything beyond that. We have a lot of guys with bad/average at best range when you think of it. Ramirez (even though he missed time) doesn't have great range, Theriot has little league range at SS, Fontenot has bad range, Soriano probably ranks average at best, Kosuke ranks average at best in CF (above in RF), Bradley ranks average at best in RF if not below average.
  8. I could see us sending Bradley + cash/propect(s) for Burrell and maybe one of Iwamura or Dan Wheeler. It would be great if Jim could somehow figure out how to get Iwamura and Crawford. But that would probably take giving up some cash and probably 1-2 of either of the Jackson's, Carpenter, Cashner, or Castro.
  9. Maybe Hendry is planning on Harden being a type B with his decision to not offer arbitration. Maybe he thinks Harden will take arbitration and it's too risky to offer $10+ mil. for an injury prone pitcher when all we would get back at best would be a supplemental pick.
  10. Thus the reason a lot of people were not happy with him. He only had 11 Wins. ;)
  11. If they sign Grabow to a 3-year deal and let Harden walk without offering arbitration, I won't do anything, but I'll be really annoyed. Unless there is some sort of unreported injury that only Harden/FO knows about (like Wood last year) it would be one of the dumbest [expletive] moves this franchise has ever made not to offer Harden arbitration. He makes $12 mil. maximum through arbitration, probably something more around $10.5
  12. Zobrist and Aaron Hill
  13. Was this Dempster's last start of the year? He has had a really good month of September. Hopefully that carries over to next year.
  14. You'd think if Wells was that bad they'd already have the book on him. He's pitched almost the whole season in the majors and had pretty consistent success. I wasn't a believer in the beginning, but at this point I think he has a pretty good chance of being a decent starter. I am expecting nothing better than a 07'/08' Jason Marquis type season out of Wells next year.
  15. I just question whether he's a significant upgrade over Jackson. he is And it isn't very close.
  16. Including Samardzija is ridiculous. It's fine if they don't plan on bringing him back with offering a multi year/multi million dollar deal or to go about their plans as if he isn't going to be on the team. But to not offer arbitration is simply foolish. $8-10 mil. isn't that much money for the production that we would get out of him. And yes expecting Samardzija to produce at all out of the starting rotation next year is damn stupid.

  18. I am sure the Chicago media will flock to this stat, but the thing that is laughable is when they bash Soriano for being a negative effect on the team and we have a distinctly better record with him in the lineup than without him. But that stat has no warrant when we do better with Soriano in the lineup than when he is out, but when Bradley is out of the lineup/in the lineup it's the most important evidence pointing to getting rid of him.
  19. Sabathia got win #19 today against the Red Sox, might have clinched it for him. He is also only 6 K's away from 200 on the year. If he gets 1 more start and gets to 20 W's and and 200 K's he's a lock IMO, which is a real shame.
  20. Didn't he have similar results early in the year while pitching for the Pirates (high ERA and average/low WHIP)? It's weird to have a WHIP that low and an ERA that high. He's not allowing a high amount of guys on base so one of two things is happening either he doesn't allow anyone to reach base most of the game and has 1-2 bad innings where 3-5 guys reach and score, or he does a poor job of keeping guys from scoring when they do reach base.
  21. Wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with the slide when he stole 2nd in the 9th. His helmet hit the 2B in the knee/leg pretty good. He just might have realized it when Guzman hit him.
  22. 1. True. 2. That's what we thought about Aaron Miles. I don't think anybody thought Miles was/is a valuable player
