Japan's only goal should have been waived off -- the Aussie keeper was pushed in the box by a Japanese player allowing a floater to fall behind him and into the net. EDIT: 3-1. When it rains...
I managed to make it through the day without any idea what happened in either match, fired up the DVR, and enjoyed my first night of World Cup soccer. Fantastic. :D I know it wasn't the keeper's fault, but how long till Oliver Kahn is back in the net for Germany? Poland looked bad -- they are in huge trouble.
Yep -- the US needs to finish with the same position as Brazil (either both winning their respective groups or both finishing in 2nd place) to avoid meeting them in the first single-elimination round.
Similar things were talked about with respect to Z... back in the day Cruz was destined for the rotation and Zambrano a future late inning reliever. We'll see how it all pans out, but I like Marmol's chances to show he can be a starter.
I was about to post the exact same thing. It better not be a rest issue, because that's just plain dumb. Did he hurt himself falling down on that error yesterday? That's what I'm guessing -- he may be a bit banged up from yesterday.... otherwise there is no excuse to sit him.
On a side note... how sick is this future rotation for Detroit? Bonderman, Verlander, Miller, and take your pick from Robertson, Maroth, Zumaya, or Sleeth. Not bad at all.
