  1. I always get amused when I see what NBC is showing Sunday afternoons. Bull riding today. I've got to believe they regret not trying to keep their NFL contract.
  2. quad post! I guess I'm not the only one having the site go slowly. My only comment atm: FOOTBALL
  3. You are wrong on the first. You cannot be anything but wrong on the first. Any time you spend any money on anything you have taken money away from the general pool. unless hendry's plan was to end the offseason with several million in his budget unspent, this has affected the team. Obviously it takes away from the budget but it isn't such a percentage of the budget that will result in the Cubs from not signing someone else. My point is to say that if you don't like the acquisition because of the money spent, the affect shouldn't be that great to refrian from acquiring someone that you want. How would you feel as a Marlins fan because you have to trade other elements of your team becasue of the percentage of budget you are spending on Delgado & Lowell. As for the structure of the contract, it is certainly manageable and it is something I am noticing that Hendry has been doing more often. He is using signing bonuses as a way of mazimizing the value of the contract to hte player but also maximizes the hit to the payroll. If you take away the signing bonus from Eyre the contract that hits the budget is certainly more manageable. He basically takes Hawkins' salary. huh? say we sign furcal and blah and blah until we have $5 million left. We still need an OF. If it wasn't for a certain few players, we could afford giles. Yes, this is only one scenario. but there are literally millions of similar ones I could create where a few million dollars set on fire could keep the cubs from getting someone useful.

  5. He's a very smart businessman who made a ton of money and wants to play with it. He's willing to spend to have fun, and while I don't think he'd lose millions to win (he might, but I doubt it), he isn't fundamentally opposed to it as a publicly owned company (the tribune) is. He could pull a 97 marlins if he wanted to, risky as that is.
  6. reading this made me think about being a mod... I think I'd replace everything sulley posted in baseball/transactions with quotes from "Capital"
  7. Hey, don't you wish that more people knew there was a delete function and how it works? How exactly does it work. Sometimes I can delete a double post, and other times it won't let me. as long as it's the last post in a thread, you can delete it.

  9. steal the snap! anyone else remember where the bears did that a few years back but the idiot refs called it offsides?
  10. not such a predictable comebackc
  11. I was wondering, has anyone seen a study done on the effects on batting hitters 8 (in the NL, of course)? I'd assume there was a drop in slg and a rise in obp, but does anyone actually have some facts?
  12. most predictable comeback ever
  13. And the 3 of them are mediocre players in what way? Who was talking about mediocrity? you were talking about jerks. Sorry, I thought the mediocrity was implied by comparing BH and Neifi. So you weren't saying that a bad attitude was a negative to be considered when deciding which players you want? wow, did I misread that
  14. that was ridiculous. the ref was standing right there, he clearly wasn't paying attention to that at all.

  16. It's 35 out so 'i'm taking the laptop out, turning a tv against the window (for football), and bundling up. Yay november weather Only problem is it gets hard to type eventually
  17. It's not like USC hasn't done this before
  18. Something else to consider is attitude. While BH with the I-Cubs, I had the "pleasure" of meeting him a few times. He was an arrogant , and I was overjoyed to hear he was dealt. From what I know, Neifi has always been a very well-liked teammate. I'd love to have an outfield of (healthy) bonds, shef, and bradley.
  19. The first sentence here was tongue-in-cheek, while the second is completely objective. There really isn't any room for mischaracterization. It may be objective but it wasn't accurate. The Dodgers sent LoDuca, Mota, and Encarcion to Florida. They received Penny back along with Choi and a prospect, who is still on their roster. It is like saying Alex Gonzalez was a target in the Nomar trade in 2004. More like saying Murton was.
  20. ... did you mean to post this on a different message board? in a pm? on aim or something?
  21. aS I said before, there's a huge range in the quality of game orton could have. Most likely, he's no good and the bears lose by a significant margin. I don't think anyone is saying the bears are the favorite here. Vegas certainly isn't. When I made my NFL picks this week, I was marveling at the fact that two division leaders (Cincy and Chicago) are home dogs this week. You almost never see that this late in the season. You might well see it next week, assuming no surprises. NY at seattle and denver at dallas. If chicago wins, you could see them favored over TB.
  22. did miss just onside down by 5 touchdowns with under 3 minutes left?
  23. I suspect that the anti-clutch sentiment doesn't extend to football. Is there any sort of SAFR?

  25. He also kicked the guy who got called for the penalty. rough way to lose your team 15 yards. I hate watching college football on espn because the "mega life and health insurance" commercials really creep me out
